I rarely comment but I had to with this video. Yoruba is a tonal language. As a Yoruba speaker myself, I will say well done Kalpa and I appreciate the gentleness and patience of Dad-in-law. Every Yoruba speaker from Childhood knows that song, it is one of many in our rich folklore. I will suggest you try this next one titled: "IYA NI WURA" (Mother is GOLD) and you will one day greatly appreciate it when your son sings it back to you. Have a great day, great week and month ahead.

Most of the letters in Yoruba alphabet, even though they look like the Latin/English alphabet they are derived from, are pronounced differently. A in Yoruba is pronounced "AH" S in Yoruba is pronounced like English "C" E in Yoruba is pronounced like English "A" F in Yoruba is pronounced like the English word "FEE" and so on. But two of the Yoruba alphabet letters have nothing similar to them phonetically in English. These two Yoruba alphabet letters, "GB", and "P" are difficult for non-speakers to pronounce. Yes, "GB" is a Yoruba alphabet, belief it or not. There are just no phonetic sounds similar to these two in the English alphabet. If you weren't taught to pronounce them as a child, very few can master them later in life. Someone mentioned that the Yoruba "gb" is the same as the 'gb' in Rugby. Close, but no cigar.
