That's alot to happen, thanks for telling us all about it. Questions: 1) What is the hardest part of family life in Japan? Especially with a child? I know you mentioned time with them, but is there anything else. Also what is the best? For example, lifestyle, resources and extra curricular things for children in your area. 2) What are your favourite hangouts where you live? Restraunts, Cafes, Parks, Libaries, Historical spaces, etc.. Can you show us a few. 3) What concepts of Japanese life have you embraced or trying to learn more about e.g. ikigai, wabi sabi, minimalism, etc.... You could do a separate video on each if too long to expalin in Q&A. Sorry, its a bit long.

One size does not fit all when it comes to learning. You can get the basics in the classroom. I always think it’s valuable to watch TV and repeat everything. They say trying to sound just like them. It took alot of sacrifices but finally making the dream become a reality right now was worth it. I’m fortunate to have an incredible wife and son that support my language learning and Im slowly but surely building a connection of people here to practice with though friendships. Im just looking forward to learning at my own pace rather than a scripted one in a classroom. More enjoyable this way for me! Appreciate the support legend 🙋🏽♂️🇯🇵

Christian, several times in your videos you talk about finding Japan as your home; in one of your responses below you say that you are 'fortunate to have found a place that really struck me and gave me a sense of 'home' '. Can you articulate specifically what features of life in Japan that resonant with you? By the way, I'm an Aussie who also spent many years living in Sydney.

Hey buddy - thank you so much for the great question. I’ll definitely add this to my AMA! But I’ll also give you a brief answer here. From day one, I can’t explain it but I felt this warmth after arriving. I’ve traveled alot and nothing hit like that before. That feel kept getting stronger the more times I visited here. But the finer details come down to Japan’s lovely/kind and respectful people, rich history, culture and way of life. Its not perfect though, the work culture is terrible amongst other things, but for the most part, the things that really resonate with me are the things at my core are most important to me. Hope that explains it in a shorter way but stay tuned for the AMA, love that question! And a Sydneysider also - that’a great 👍🏽 where in Sydney?? Thanks again legend 🙋🏽♂️🇯🇵

One for the AMA: Now you've left the Japanese language school, have you had to change from a student visa to, say, a work visa, and what would your ideal job be? One question for this video, though. How did you do the 'follow' shot at the start of this video, just before you sat down, or did you have someone with you to film that? Also, I've done the Kofi donation, and because one of my first comments was about how you need some socks when making apartment tour videos, I figured I should put my money where my mouth is 😁 And I added a bit, so you can both have a drink to celebrate 😃

Hey buddy! Great to see you back here. First off - THANK YOU SO MUCH! I just saw you donation on the Ko-fi page, that is so incredibly kind. I will definitely be getting some socks and be having a bevvy on you for sure 👍🏽 haha To answer your question also, I’ve actually been off student visa for a while and on a spouse visa anyway. And as for ideal job, working for myself actually. I’ve been working 10 years on finances to enable myself freedom for years to come hopefully so I can chase some dreams of mine and now I can finally put in time I didn’t have before. For the moment, I’m going to continue making content across Japan 🇯🇵 Haha the follow shot was done by my wife. She is so supportive of everything I am doing and secretly has helped me film on a few occasions. You’ll notice about half way through the latest video, I make a comment off to the side. That was to her lying next to me quietly 🤣 BTS INFO! Thanks so much again for always supporting mate! Truely appreciated 🙋🏽♂️🇯🇵

@@hangswithchristian Hi, you're very welcome, and I wonder if I could do a self-employment visa or similar, if I was to move to Japan one day. Something to look into, but the thought came to mind as in terms of finances, I have some inheritance to last me for a while. Plus, if I sold my house and bought something that's close-ish to Tokyo, but not so close that it'd be prohibitively-expensive, then that would get me something decent for the money, and around 30-40 mins Shinkansen to Tokyo. Something to mull over in my mind, while I'm thinking of a change in life as I've reached a junction in life, and I've hit a certain age 😁 Thanks for confirming re: the follow shot. I was thinking you were accompanied, given the comment to the side. That's great to have met someone who's so supportive of what you do. 😃
@hangswithchristian3 ай бұрын
Yeah, I was looking into that route at one point. Visa's here are very different as they are super strict on immigration. There are a bunch of different visa's though it's just a process on finding one that fits you. Might be best to search more for immigration specialist and entertain different ways of moving here to find what is the best route for yourself. And as for buying a property I met a guy recently here that has two companies. One is a relocation support company and the other is a real estate company. Not sure if he might helpful to your situation but a really informative guy. Shoot them an email (nipponbridge.com) and let him now I sent you there. They also deal with property all over Japan for overseas clients. Not sure if they have minimum budget requirements or not but you can get a free consultation to understand if they can help. No harm and shooting an email right!

@@hangswithchristian Thanks very much for the Nippon Bridge info. I'll have a look through and give them a shout and mentioned you referred me to them, ta. Instantly, the first thing that leaped off the page was about Universal Public Healthcare, as I have a heart condition, since birth, and then after a big operation at 22 for an aortic valve replacement, I now take a bunch of tablets each day. So, I'd certainly get value out of paying in to that. Will also have a look at all the different info regarding visas, too, thanks 😃

Thanks so much for watching mate! Actually I have an upcoming video interviewing foreign university students here and how it works going to university. So keep an eye out. If you plan on going to university to study something, it sounds though like you’d be best knowing basic Japanese for sure or it might be a hard time. And generally as a student you are more financially conscious so studying in a place like Fukuoka is a better choice as it’s much cheaper than Tokyo. I would definitely suggest studying in Fukuoka and then if you wanted to move to Tokyo later would be a better decision. But that’s just my personal opinion and being conscious!

I think you should really consider doing the AJATT method since you live there man I've been thinking about this alot since I'm doing this currently but language schools are more traditional and follow a Japanese teaching method which IMO is hard to adapt a mindset to as a westerner. But yh man keep learning Japanese because it will make your experience in Japan so much better. Think of it as unlocking DLC content in a game 🤣
@hangswithchristian3 ай бұрын
I’ll be honest, I had to look up that acronym haha Yeah, that method is something that I currently already do and I’m looking at diving deeper into it. It definitely works better for me that’s for sure than the traditional methods that is done in classrooms here. Just sitting at a desk and looking at a whiteboard is torture for me haha I tune out in seconds! But I’m looking forward to my Japanese improving as the years go on. Its a dream to speak it! Yh man you've got it just 文法と漢字 is something you really need to tackle in terms of becoming good at speaking and reading. It its something you really need to study still IMO. Japanese is hard asf though so I get it you can find methods that will work and some that won't for you everyones different. It's insightful seeing that the classroom environment for you legit just didn't work out because I was similar in school but my mindset has shifted alot since then so it's hard to say.

Yeah, its really the same in many countries. They haven’t really evolved the teaching techniques or practices and have stuck to traditional methods thinking everyone learns the same way. Hey legend! Super appreciate you taking the time to tune in. And yes, absolutely - I attended GenkiJacs in Fukuoka. It's a really great and supportive school. All the teachers and staff are very helpful. If you email them any questions you have ahead of time, they will be sure to help you out with any concerns. Though I'm not sure they do shorter course in the 2-week range, it's still worth looking into it. I hope your Japanese language journey so far is going well. Fukuoka is a much better environment to learn in I personally think. I feel there is more opportunity to practice Japan, it's ALOT cheaper than Tokyo and generally find the people more open. Best of luck and keep me posted on how you go buddy 🙋🏽♂️🇯🇵

Hey Quinn! Yeah GenkiJacs is a fantastic school to study at. Fukuoka is the main campus and all the teachers/staff were really supportive. They listened to feedback and concerns I had an adjusted immediately where there was opportunities which I liked. They support your whole journey also, right down to job support and accommodation. Fukuoka is just my style of city. Beachside, city and nature mixed. Great access to major transportation and not as tourist populated so you can practice more. Plus, ALOT cheaper than places like Tokyo. I love Tokyo, but as I got older, it just to hectic to live. I want access to the party, I just don’t want to live in it haha I use that all the time when asked about ‘why not Tokyo and why Fukuoka’. How long you intending on studying for buddy? @@hangswithchristian Yeah that helps a lot! I'm thinking about studying for 3 months starting in january 2025, I might end up doing 6 months, but I am only 18 and moving out for the first time to a foreign country already seems daunting so I don't know if I really want to stay for longer than three months, I would also have to deal with visa stuff aha😅 I am already close to N4 though, and I know I can get proficient on my own. I would just be studying there for the experience, and to make friends in japan/from other parts of the world. do you think doing a language school is worth it, and gave you more opportunities to interact with japanese people? or could i get away with that by just living there and speaking the language. sorry to ask so many questions!! love the content
@hangswithchristian3 ай бұрын
That’s great to hear buddy, it sounds like self study is really beneficial to you. My would maybe be, what is your overall goal for learning Japanese. Do you want to live here one day and work? Schools for some people can be really beneficial for filling in the holes of learning you couldn’t do on your own. My school also holds many events giving you the chance to practice with Japanese people if you choose to attend. Important question to ask schools about actually, what activities do they hold outside of school to give those opportunities. The other options are, that money can be spent on travelling Japan for 3 months, explore and practicing if you feel you could be outgoing enough to chat to locals. Or come here on a work visa for a longer stay, see if the place is fitting on you if you haven’t been here before. It’s a big culture shock to most, but a welcoming one. In the end, school is a personal choice. I’m very aware of what works for me, which is why I left as it wasn’t school. But from your past, if you feel school has been a great environment, it might be a great choice! Hope that helps legend and looking forward to hearing about your journey going forth🙋🏽♂️🤙🏽
