I like Old Things | 100-year-old Cottage Renovations

I like old things! a couch, a car, a cottage or a house, old furniture, old fashion, old clothes, old films, old music and old nostaliga. Things were truly great before, but not necessary better.
If you plow your own potato field, you will be strong enough to lift your own freezer AND couch out of a car and inside your house. At least that is my experience.
I continue my progress in the kitchen and I finally have a real counterspace. This was a real gamechanger for me and gave me a boost of motivation. It can be tough to live in the renovations.
This is from summer 2023.

I loved that video. Just like watching myself or my mother in the old days. Sometimes we lived places that if it wasn't for my mothers' ingenuity would of been a dump. She repaired old furniture and painted and made curtains out of things my aunt threw away and stuff pillows and bed spreads and quilts out of things. She took 2 coats and sewed me a winter coat. Using collar and cuffs , buttons, & lining out of one and pattern and material out of other. She sewed rag rugs for the floor and one time when it was my birthday and again the pay check didn't spread far enough she made me a clown doll which had a patchwork outfit and orange yarn hair and we had to use an old cook stove with wood but she made me a white angel food cake and put a little glass of water in the middle and put a yellow rose from the old roses growing up the side of the house. I came home on the school bus expecting nothing and I was so happy I cried.

I like old things too. Youxll want to put a few strips of wood under the counter on top of the drawer cabinet so the counter doesn't sag. Or you may run a stip along the back wall to help support it. Look forward to see how you decorate with old things.

You have the most AMAZING view from your property. A suggestion for the dresser your using as kitchen drawers. ( great idea by the way!) you could pull it forward even with the others, and build a frame behind it, this would keep it from sliding back.

A little tip for you.. a couple of spoons of borax in your hot water will make washing your floorboards so much easier, it has great cleaning power. It’s non-toxic and creates a barrier to ward off insects. No need to rinse afterwards. Any type of soap will leave a film that dirt will stick to. With borax that’s not the case.

Green is my favourite color aswell! The shelves/pantry cupboard was too good to throw away, and I didn't have any other places to use them, so I figured that was a fair solution. Please be careful loading and unloading heavy stuff. Like you in my 30s and forty’s I thought I could do it myself. Once you damage your back it is never the same. So at least buy a back support for when you move heavy items.

FYI…about glue should you ever want to stain anything…..glue does not take stain, so if it oozes out wipe quickly with damp rag.
