@@ThomasHeatonPhoto Speaking of stove, you don't have a shop called Biltema in the UK as far as I know, but they have a gas stove that I've used a lot, and it's cheap and good. 18 months ago we toured Scotland in a motorhome. We wild camped as much as we could, I took on fresh water in small petrol stations after filling up with fuel, we dropped the grey water down drains and the chemical toilet emptied in campsites when we stayed. We’re off again in August, nothing better than staying overnight for an early morning photography outing, what a life 👍

I’ve been here so long that I identify as Canadian and wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. Until I see videos like this, and I feel a knot of homesickness in my stomach. The lakes and fells are magical, and you make magic in the way you capture them. Thanks, as always. Oh, and the last image is a dream. I think the 2nd last image is the better shot, it still captures that dreamy etherealness of the reflection forest but also captures the context beautifully surrounding it. Something about the mist covering the actual forest but seeing the forest so clearly in the water's reflection is just so magical.

A once in a lifetime image! BTW, a convenience that I found when I was camping in my pickup truck was an 18-ft tarp. I could place it over the sleeping cab and stake it out to the sides with nylon lines and tent stakes. At the back I used two extendable tent poles with nylon lines and stakes. When I camped in the rain I would set up the tarp. That allowed me to cook on the tailgate and sit out there in a folding chair under shelter if I wanted to. At night I could leave the side windows and the hatch window open for ventilation when the mosquitoes weren't too bad. I found the tarp to be a worthy addition to my kit.

🇨🇦... Hey there Thomas! I commented on Henry Turner's video of this same week that when I taught photography I nudged the idea, to my students, that any view or exposure that was not the "NORM" of human vision was an excellent place to start in creating INTRIGUE. That upside down reflection was GORGEOUS and I suspect that anyone looking at it in a book (I have your first book) or on a gallery wall would just stop and stare for awhile, the brain jarred and unsure of what they were looking at. Very envious of your trip, your van and your camera!! Cheers!

An idea for the kitchen roll. You actually don't need a mount for it. Just remove the hard cardboard roll from the middle and use it as a sort of 'pull out' dispenser. That works great for me, especially if you have an option to choose one, which has a narrower diameter of the cardboard roll in the middle and keep the plastic wrapper around it, so it won't fall apart. Anyways great video, keep it up!

Setting the camera, and then retreating so you can film yourself walking by, and then coming back to get your camera. Repeat. It must take you forever to get to your destinations. I also appreciate the effort you take in matching the sound of your foot steps from shot to shot. Very impressive. Thank you for your professionalism. I love the chill slower pace of your vids. So needed. As a long time vanlifer may I suggest ditch the kitchen roll and use blue cloths. Washable, reusable, better for the environment yup, but so so so much easier in a van. I make a rollof em and I'll have two going at a time - a dirty one for mucky things and the one I'm using for dishes/ cutting board etc. I'll hang and reuse so it's always there. Can have a few around.. I often hang mine off my dishsoap spray bottle (also a brilliant hack- little bit of dishsoap and water in a spray bottle but try not to spray into the air inside the van, rather into the cloth as it's aerosolized dishsoap isn't lung friendly). Give em a rinse and wring out and you're good for awhile. Wash in the washing machine on hot with towels. Great tree saver.
