I live in the US. Should I buy gear from Thomann? Yes!

Based on my experience ordering from Thomann in 2022 from within the United States, I can highly recommend ordering from the company.

Thomann's is basically the European version of Sweetwater. Shopped there all the time when stationed in Germany with the US Army band. They are an EXCELLENT company. Most complaints seem to stem from things outside of their control. Can't recommend enough

I'm looking at Marshall Amps and Gibson guitars that are less than HALF price they are in the USA. Thomann says they can't sell those things to me in the USA. I'm about to go make a German friend to ship stuff too, so they can ship it to me. Customs charges are only around $200.

I bought one of those huge Zep centennial drum kits (4 drums), delivered in perfect condition within a week, delivery cost to Philadelphia from Germany was 250, and import/duty tax was only 80 bucks. They did ship in 2 deliveries, possibly to keep the price of each one below 800 bucks (I’ve read that that number is where additional duty tax hits you), so I got the deliveries on different days (more of a UPS issue I think). Overall, yes, this company is the real deal, and was very easy to work with.

Thanks for your mail. The limit for duties is 800 and you ordered something for 250 and still got duties? I want to order something for 130 and want to know if there will be duties. It can not be received if there are duties as it is a postal send thru to another country address.

It is perverse that thomann does not have a warehouse in the u.s. No idea what shipping cost wiuld be for a bass guitar but not willing to risk doubling the cost if a harley benton bass beat.

So you weren't charged any customs fees or anything like that? I wonder if there'll be a charge for orders over $3000...

As of today, I have not received notice of any customs charges. However, if I understand correctly, there is a limit on how much you can "declare" for these kinds of transactions. Comment and let us know how it worked for you.

Any shipment for a product valued in the US at or over $2,500 will be hit with tax and fees regardless of the price paid at Thomann. Anything under that $2,500 value will not be taxed. Even if it's over the $2,500 US value amount, depending on the difference in price, it might be still be worth it. Keep in mind that if you bought something like an analog compressor or EQ it will be set up using European Power standards and outlet plugs. You can always buy a plug converter but make sure you can flip the power to 120v to match US standards.

Did u put stats (address) when u made order? Bc when I try to order they don't tell me to put stats and I only see the street name, number, postal code, town, and county

I'm not sure what you mean by stats. What you describe at the end of your comment *is* what I know as an address. With the exception that, along with the street name, I put in my numbered address, ie. 345 Wisteria St

Help! im trying to order ableton 12 from thomann and it keeps saying “an unknown error has occurred” in checkout. i have tried numerous times with debit card and paypal and it keeps giving me an error.

Hi! I don't work for Thomann, so I can't be of much help with technical support. However, I can offer a few suggestions (at your own risk). First, check your bank account and see if the payment already went through and the error is just because it already placed the order, that way you don't order multiple times. Second, contact their technical support via email. It may take some time, but they will be able to help. Third, just as a general rule, don't hit the "back" button on the browser when you're placing an order. That's often what causes "unknown error" issues.

Thanks so much!! How do i get it shipped to the US? on their website to check out, doesnt give me the option. Says "one or mote of your objects are too big to ship" Also, how much did you pay for shipping?!

Not sure what you're ordering. As noted in the video, I ordered a Push 2. That was approx. 24×28×4. I know some who have ordered guitars. But I've never attempted to order anything as large as, say, a drum set or an 88-key synth/controller. They're usually responsive to contact (email, etc) though.

Thanks for the info! I ordered an item from them last night and received an email about possible customs charges. Like your purchase what I ordered was too good to pass up. Just over $1,600 but a grand less than what I would be paying from the competition. We will see if I run into any problems. Fingers crossed I don't 🤞.

Sorry about the delayed response. Yes, I did have to pay roughly $450 in taxes and fees. Any shipment for a product valued in the US at or over $2,500 will be hit with tax and fees regardless of the price paid at Thomann. In my case, I bought an SSL Fusion through Thomann for $1,660 plus $55.43 shipping and no tax. So $1,721.43 total. US companies like Sweetwater had the price of the Fusion at $2,699. I did receive that email from Thomann as discussed in the video that stated there could be issues with customs and that they needed permission to ship the Fusion. After I agreed and responded to Thomann's email the shipment made it's way to Customs where it was held up. The crazy part was that I kept receiving UPS updates that it was in route so I thought cool nothing to worry about. Once it arrived at Customs I received an update from UPS via email stating that they need additional buyer information with an attached form cbp-form-5106 which looks a bit crazy. The email also said that they had tried to contact me which they did not. The very next day after receiving the email I received another email from directly from a UPS Customs Broker. The cool thing about UPS is that they assign Customs Brokers. The email stated that they needed a TIN number or my social. It also stated that I could email the 5106 form or call. I called, it was a direct number and it was easy. Word of advice, if you get this email from a UPS Customs Broker call immediately as there are daily Broker fees and Custom fees. After giving my information I received a bill from UPS with a link to pay. I'm not sure exactly how they calculated it but it was around $450 for fees and taxes. So the total which was $1,721 for the SSL Fusion and the Customs fees of $450 came to approximately $2,171.43. I still saved over $600. A BIG THING TO REMEMBER - the SSL Fusion came set up for European Power and Electrical Plugs. Luckily it was an easy fix. I had to flip the circuit to match the US standard of 120V, put new breakers in and buy an outlet converter. Other than that it came in pristine condition. The whole process took about two weeks from the order to my door. Would I order through Thomann again? Perhaps for items valued under $2,500 in the US. One thing that came to mind was, what if the unit needed to be returned? How would returning something work with Customs? Also, what if I could not switch the circuit to match the US electrical voltage, that would have sucked. Fortunately things worked out and the SSL Fusion works perfectly.

If you're asking about customs, I can't say for sure. I would guess it's probably an estimate based on the price on Thomann converted to dollars. Anyone else who knows, chime in.

According to multiple online sources the US has a minimum (look up De Minimus Value) of $800 - meaning that imports under $800 will not be subject to duty or tariffs. My understanding is that this is the value *before* shipping. Anything above that is subject to tariff/duty, but that does not mean that it will, in fact, be charged that duty (this area is as confusing as US tax code). I would think that $1000 and above is highly likely to pay customs duty, but I have no personal experience in that area. Sorry I can't be more help.
