Y'know, if someone pulled off a "hold them off" last stand, and it gained enough popularity, the gamemaster and devs could add it as official canon lore like they've done before. (There was a battle on one of the worlds that became the "vietnam of Helldivers 2", and it was an incredibly fun and terrifying war against the machines. A few situations with players that got recorded are mentioned and made canon).

This reminds me of hard-core Battlefield, taking out 10 dudes before you die. It’s always exhilarating in that game especially when everybody’s dying next to you every second. You had 10 people next to you and in 10 seconds they’re all dead. you’ve killed 10 enemies you’re not gonna survive, but you can take out as many as you can, in hopes that your team will be able to respond Just a little bit quicker with a little bit better footing.

The orders were clear. The fleet above, for all its high yield payloads, couldnt stem the tide without incurring losses. The fireteam needed to distance themselves. The orders were clear, but but the ground with boots on the ground and flailing bodies flying over you, it was a different story, equally clear; The sargeant knew the price he needed to pay to make the fleets gambit work in their favor, he was prepared to deal with it once they cleared the labyrinthine maze of trees that formed the treeline. What he didn't expect was for the private to turn around and unleash hell into the line. 'You fool' he said and barked orders to fall back. The order was clear, but the private also knew the price they needed to make. The sargeant ran past as the devastators barreled towards them. The private had just made his 3rd day, duty replacing the horrible fear he had of the automatons. But the stalwart machine gun laid down a sundering amount of firepower. Thrice swung chainsaw arms from charging Auto's nearly made impact on the private's arms and face as he threw himself back keeping the gun firing. A fourth devastator managed to get past and the chainsaw arm ripped titantium reinforced bodyarmor like it was nothing,exposing mulched ribs and barely clinging lungs.the pain urged nothing more than a panicked grunt from the valiant private as the 4th devastator also fell. The private turned to mert the sargeant, his bloodstained helmet locking his gaze until the private died. By then the precious strategems were locked and ready, as the sargeant burned the forest they emerged from, turning machines to scrap before his very eyes. Another one down, and they couldnt spare the time to mourn.

I saw a hell bomb out of the corner of my eye in the last 30 seconds of a termanid defense mission on impossible difficulty. With no stims or grenades and one clip left in my auto piston I meleed my way to it and dumped the rest of my ammo into it. The 50 kills it got me saved the mission

I used to play Phasmophobia with my friends. Any time that a ghost would enter a room that we were in, I would full on sprint at it and yell "meat shield activated!" so that it would kill me instead of them. You can kill me, but not my buds 😂

Actually had a moment like this that was pretty great. I was holding down a flank as extract came, and as it landed I sat for a second to clear away a line of those shredder mechs that were on the way. I don’t know what happened, but as I got up to extract, all three of my PUG randos died. I was literally right behind the Pelican, but decided to turn away and toss a reinforcement beacon down so they could come back and extract with us. I threw the beacon and turned back to the Pelican that was now swarmed with shredders. Like 8 of them. I started blasting my Breaker and running backwards, away from extract. They followed. I watched my friends land. I kept shooting. I saw them get in. I kept shooting. I couldn’t make it through the mosh pit of mechs to the Pelican. I kept shooting. The Pelican took off, all three of my friends on board. I was shooting until the cutscene. I like to think that maybe I made it, and I’m sat under a rock somewhere waiting for rescue. But it’s never coming. At least they got out.
