I served on the creek with a fellow helldiver by the callsign "Seadogs". Seadogs was a funny fellow. Always had a joke or two to say, and nothing seemed to rattle him somehow. We met during a blitz mission on Malevelon Creek not too long after I was made Sergeant from successful missions against the bugs on Meridia. Seadogs was the only one who had been assigned on the mission other than me. We took on the automataton bases with a decent bit of stealth. We hit them hard and fast and then faded out into the jungle before the clunkers could formulate a response. For all his humor Seadogs was surprisingly coldly professional at times, and highly competent. I used to carry a supply pack to keep us stocked and he joked he always sticks with his quartermaster since he'd never run out of stims because he had to survive to "make some big titty SEAF pilot his wife" he would always compliment how attractive Eagle 1's voice was and made it a point to thank her for each air strike. We were assigned next to a mission launching an ICBM. We were assigned two cadets with us, who were eager to spill oil. I chatted with them but Seadogs held back. He didn't joke as much with them as he did me. When I asked he said "I only become friends with those I think will survive the mission" The cadets were eager to fight for democracy and engaged every patrol they saw. Seadogs and I had mostly used stealth and guerilla tactics, and he kept advising the cadets to avoid patrols instead of engaging them. But high on their early successes, they didn't listen. They engaged a patrol on a hilltop where they had the high ground and their stalwart heavy machine guns littered the ground with oil and shattered parts while they laughed and whooped at their kills. I tried to warn them that the clankers are slow to respond, but when they do they bring massive armies. They didn't listen, however. Seadogs motioned to me to move on. "Objective takes priority," he said grimly "They're being a good distraction, let's move on." "Shouldn't we help them?" I replied, knowing he was probably right but didn't like the thought of leaving comrades to fight without us. "We have a mission to do. We die here it doesn't get done. Come on," he said. I followed him into the jungle as the sound of gunfire and mad laughter echoed behind us. As we finished the objective the mocking laughter on our radios turned into cries of terror and pleas for help. By the time we reached extraction, there was nothing on the radio but silence. We extracted alone. Seadogs didn't joke much that time. Our last mission together was supposed to be a challenging one, but mission control clearly got the intel wrong. It was a suicide mission. Upon our drop we were beset with tanks and clunkers in exo suits. For what seemed like days, We carved a bloody path through their forces but they just kept coming. Every time we ran into the woods another patrol was waiting for us. Every time we survived and stimmed up we were under attack bare a minute later. Our reinforcements arrived and would die as quickly as they came, blood and oil mixing on the jungle ground as we fought a running battle to activate an old SEAF artillery cannon and upload some critical data to Super Earth's databases. Some kind of atmospheric interference was making it hard to get accurate readings sent to our destroyers, so it took longer than normal for us to get supplies or orbital support. We found ourselves near extraction, but with an army of clunkers between us and escape. Hulks and Devastators were everywhere amongst them, we were hopelessly outgunned. I told him we should try to call down some turrets to distract them, and sneak by while they are busy. "That's a good idea man," he said cheerfully and then stood up and began to open fire at the bots, quickly taking out the nearby patrol but alerting the others who came to investigate. Seadogs threw a few turret deployment beacons down near his position and took cover behind a rock. "Are you crazy?! What the hell are you doing?!" I asked him. He laughed, and I could hear the smile in his voice as he spoke. "I'm being a good distraction. " He fired a few more rounds at the bots, drawing even more to his position. "Go," he said desperately. "I'll hold them here. If we both tried for it, we'd die. This way at least one of us has a chance," I hesitated, wanting to argue. Seadogs suddenly hugged me. "Go brother. Live free for both of us. Find you a sexy SEAF pilot girl to marry for me eh?" He spoke with a laugh. "Now go. GO!" So...much to my shame. I ran. I made it to the extraction beacon without trouble, the bots were focused on the enormous rucus Seadogs was making as he spilled oil by the gallons and split metal into shards with his autocannon. Anyone even getting close to spotting me was immediately blasted to pieces by gunfire as Seadogs covered my escape. Finally, when the extraction was 20 seconds to touchdown, I got my last sight of my brave companion, my brother in arms Seadogs. He had climbed to the top of a rock, a sea of metal monstrosities surrounded him on all sides. He had called down several strikes onto his own position. The delay in triangulation for our destroyers had given him time to mark multiple targets at once, including the mini nuke we had liberated from the SEAF artillery cannon. Our eyes met across the battlefield, and he saluted me. One final act of bravery as monsters of metal climbed up behind him, raising their chain blades to strike him down. Then they disappeared as the whole world went white as several explosions went off at once. I don't know if my blindness was from staring at the explosion or my own tears, but I don't remember much other than stumbling onto the escape craft after that point. Rest in peace Seadogs. The Creek may have your body but your spirit will live forever.

I was at the creek. The first wave. I remained there until its fall. I was a creek crawler. A solo diver. The amount of death I’ve witnessed. The amount of dread buzzing through the air. You could always hear the sound of their chanting before you’d see them. Gods forbid they see you first. There was so many, I counted 8 hulks, 3 tanks, a legion of walkers, and the whole of a world eaters warband. It was there, wounded on my second helldive extraction (weird glitch, I got killed in the drop ship but still counted as extracted lol) I learned the truth of the creek. I have since had a couple prosthetic limbs. Since then I’ve been helping the fight on the East, but the scars of my time will never leave me. Heavy tree lines send a chill through me. Even here in the East, I still hear their chants. The sound of machinery even when there isn’t any. I see new lights in the trees, they say I’m just shellshocked but I know what I saw… we’re being stalked by something new. I’m certain it will make the creek look like a ball pit by comparison.

I've been at Malevelon Creek since the start, been dropping there since the Severin Sector First Expeditionary Unit was formed. You learned quickly how to survive. There was never any daylight there, despite what you might expect of a tropical world. At least not enough to make any difference for visibility. Spotting any bots in the foliage was always a nightmare, you couldn't see a Beserker until it was practically right on top of you. When High Command issued the withdrawal, my ship was still in orbit with a small flotilla of SD's preparing to run one last operation before we joined the retreat. I watched as four ships around me were destroyed by ground-to-orbit AA fire and a fifth one plummeted down into the atmosphere and burned up. I was part of the last 3,000 or so Helldivers to run an operation on The Creek before the retreat was full acknowledged by the rest of us. I'll never forget all the Divers that we lost at the Creek during that first battle. We're back at The Creek since then, and I can't think of any other combat zone I'd want to deploy to.

I fought to retake malevelon creek in the recent counter-offensive "Swift Disassembly." I fought, i bled. I reduced bots to not but scrap. But for every bot we killed, every hulk we busted, every tank we destroyed... they just kept coming...I once deployed with a squad of helldivers...one of them had real experience. He had to go back for the lost samples after a cadet stepped on a landmine. He ordered us to hold the extraction zone and wait until he either returned or sent a communication over the radio. We were beset by an endless tide of bots. Machine gun bullets ricochet off the armored shields of devastators, grenades made a medley of pain...in the panic and confusion, one of the cadets tried to flee..he ran for the extraction shuttle and tried to call it in...i warned him..i told him to stop and get back in line or i'd shoot...he was just a space cadet...even now. My team of combat sappers had the responsibility of dropping behind the lines, sabotaging enemy airfields and control towers, dismantling fabricator outposts, etc. My first deployment had been to Heeth, but the damn bugs couldn't have prepared us for the fighting at the Creek. I saw things there that will follow me to my grave. Corpses of SEAF troops rotting in barbed cages, bodies hoisted on spikes, barbarity that not even the animalistic bugs would have stooped to. My team was only there for a couple of days before General Brasch ordered our ship to Draupnir to secure the supply lines to the Creek. That wasn't a cake walk either but at least the sun rose there, at least the planet itself wasn't conspiring against us. I know one day we'll be back. You might not have fought to claim the Creek, but you fight to avenge the lives of those who fell there, does that sound like cowardice? I don’t think so. So don’t put yourself down Helldiver, every choice is part of a grand plan, and that plan is one in which we will win. Me and my friends started a helldivers unit on discord with people we know (with permission from the game devs, according to the unit's current CO [who I'm also in the squad of]) called the 101st Creek fighters, and we pretty much exclusively fight on Malevelon (which we call our homeworld), Mantes, and Draupnir. Our CO sent a message to the devs that we would be retaking malevelon creek soon (back when we were actually making progress and had liberation at about 56%). The devs simply said "Good luck", and not even a day later, Joel started working his DM magic and wiped most us out with an absurd number of Hulks and tanks in a series of missions when we were cut off from reinforcements because of the stuff going on at Mantes. BUT NOW WE HAVE MECHS TO FIGHT THE MECHS!

I was there at the Creek. Gone in with a squad of 4 strong. Mounted with anti-automaton weaponry, even one of us had a mechsuit of their own.. It wasn't enough. Two of us died destroying one of their dropship outposts, bravely sacrificing themselves to arm the hellbomb. It was me and my buddy left, we'd been through many terminid campaigns together, even took down a Bile Titan. Yet, none of that prepared us for the savage silicon and galvanized steel of the robotic menace. We were on the verge of destroying the second outpost, the second hellbomb having been armed successfully. Yet, when it looked like victory may be in sight for both of us..the impossible happened. His capital ship, The Sword of Liberty, had been downed by a surface to air bombardment by the Automaton. In the ensuing chaos, he didn't escape the Hellbomb blast in time. Alone, I crawled for days through mud, grime, oil and the blood of my comrades. I had completed our mission and called for extraction, yet at what cost? My brothers, gone. My left arm and right leg inoperable after calling in an orbital strike on my position to deny the Automatons access to myself. I was lucky to have been flung close enough to the Pelican to crawl on, my Gatling Turret providing barely enough covering fire for me to escape. One of these days, we'll take the Creek back, if not for the planet, if not for the war, but in the name of every soldier who died on it's soil. For Super Earth!

The lore and obsession with Malevelon Creek is truly the sign of a healthy game. Back when I was still a kid, the "Club Penguin" video game had an organic, fan-based theory that you could tip the iceberg chat room over. No narrative or top-down story created this and the developers never thought of it. It was simply a rumor that originated entirely from the fan base, solely from imagination and group effort. The fact that Malevelon Creek was not a Mission Objective, was not an unusual planet, and had no special missions, but became a legend in the community and inspired countless fan content, fan art, and gaming sessions, is not something most communities can reproduce. Honestly, I've never seen a better gaming community than HD2.

SES Queen of Democracy. Our first deployment was two weeks into the war. We were sent directly to the Creek as part of the reinforcements. Fortunately for us we linked up with a squadron of experienced Crawlers who showed us the ropes. Occasionally we were rotated to Draupnir and Mantes to keep our supply lines secure, particularly during the big Automaton offensive across the sector, but we spent most of the next week taking every chance we could get making drops on the Creek. Our squadron was one of the last to be pulled out of the system. At that point I still had never seen a bug. We just participated in the deployment of the TCS in the Umlaut Sector. Good soldiers follow orders. But there's only one major order we're praying for: "take back the Creek."

One of my first few deployments as a cadet was to the Creek. My friends were all Skull Admirals who were no strangers to the horrors about to face us, and here I was, fresh from a few excursions on Erata. They told me it would be ok, to not worry. They told me to stick with them and we'd get home safe. And I was eager to do what I could. The moment my pod hit the surface, I could tell shit already hit the fan. If there was any hope to hold onto during this mission, none of us saw it. Not long after we made planetside, two of my friends were killed by those filthy clankers. The last thing I heard from them were their agonized screams and the screeches of binary within the trees. By the time extraction was called, it was only me and one other. He yelled at me to get on the ship the second those doors opened and he'd be right behind me as he covered our escape. Right when we thought we were home free, they took him as well, and I was the only one who made it off. Shortly later, the announcement came: The Creek had fallen, and we were all to retreat. That day, a part of me questioned whether any of this was worth it. Was all of this worth the pain? The brothers and sisters lost? What was the point? Two weeks later, I'm now a Chief, and those wounds still haven't healed. Some vowed never to go back there. Not after this. But when the time comes to retake it, I'll absolutely be amongst our brothers and sisters dropping in, to take back what we lost, and to avenge who we've lost. Remember The Creek. Never Forget, and Never Forgive.

Or my auditing dives nearly paralyze me but it's the devotion and democratic spirits of the new wave of divers that remind me I am no longer in those times. I remember being a Cadet with my friends who heard about the beginnings of the war wanting to Defend the Creek. I remembered how it truly was a test of nerves, grit, and Determination in the face of overwhelming, sometimes Apocalyptic odds. The things I saw on that first deployment...the amount of Death, Brutality, and sheer Mercilessness never left me. Yet despite such despair and absolute horror, the light of the Creek Crawlers shined brighter than any star that I dare say it Rivals that of Sol itself. During one of the battles I was in to take out some Bot Fabricators, A Death Captain who shouted to us when we were taking a Radar station that whatever the cost was, we needed to retake it not just out of Logistical Necessity but to give the people back home Hope that we could win this war and that Super Earth's Guardians would not fail. He told me about his previous battles with the Terminids when they had invaded Heeth and told me that whatever the cost, we had to live up to the symbol of Freedom, Hope, and Liberty's protectors that we bore upon our shoulders. He died after setting off a Hellbomb and taking out a Heavy Bot Fabrication Facility whilst multiple Shredder tanks were after us. I'll never forget his Sacrifice for us as he charged into hell, knowing he would never return even as we fought to keep a corridor open for him to come back to us for Extraction. Part of me wanted to not believe he died but...when the Pelican pilot shouted that we had to leave, I gave one last salute for my fallen CO before we left. Now I stand as an Admiral, Freshly Promoted after aiding in the campaigns against the Terminids. As I've survived the Creek, taking the knowledge of what I was able to experience to try and help those fighting against the Terminids, and eventually lead my own charge with multiple other Helldivers on Tein Kwan when the bots decided to invade before the deployment of the Exosuits. I may have left the Creek to assist across the rest of the Galaxy when called upon for Major Orders...but the Creek has never left me. One day we will Retake the Creek. To those who have seen their friends, family, and loved ones lay down their lives for the Creek and for other worlds, know that their deaths were not in vain. I've passed my knowledge to those on other fronts and of those fighting other battles and if I die to take back the Creek, I shall take as many enemies of Democracy and Liberty with me as I can. We are Helldivers! When Superearth calls for us to stand our ground, Here we shall stand! Even as we march across the worlds taken by the enemies and find the civilians and Fallen Warriors, we shall not bow our head in mourning! Our heads shall rise and lead the charge to avenge their Deaths! Avenge the Fallen. Honor their Memory. Take back the Creek.

The entire community united in the last 3 hours left of the defense operation and then at the end the steam servers fell and the PlayStation players had to keep the line for the last 2 hours, then the steam servers came back online and the we flooded the defense campaign on mort with only 5 min left on the counter. We succeeded and were able to stop the automatons advance in the Xzar sector and finally pushed them back ultimately ending in a stalemate. It was a moment that showed we would not go silently into that night. God I love this game

I was one of the few to keep Draupnir open to help those at the creek. The Creek was terrifying the two times I dropped there, but Draupnir is just as bad. Instead of thick foliage blocking your view, there is a constant, near impermeable mist surrounding Draupnir. Our eyes can barely see through, but the bots? The bots can see for miles. I've seen squadmates be eviscerated by cannons that we had no idea were there. You could barely make them out in the mist, only visible by their glowing vents in the back. Same with the other bots, only visible by the red and orange glow that they make. Malevelon Creek is famous, but Draupnir is just as deadly. May we never forget the Creek, but may we also respect those keeping the Creek alive.

I remember my first tour on The Creek. The first night after our combat drop, we never got a lick of sleep. One moment you’d be patrolling through the dark, hazy jungle and the next moment the guy beside you would erupt into a bright flash of energy and crimson mist. The jungle would be silent and calm and then all hell would break loose. It was wave after wave, endless hordes of bots raining hell on us. I still remember the red glow of their lifeless robotic eyes peering through the fog, it still haunts my nightmares. The morning after my first firefight I remember how the rivers ran red with the blood of fallen divers and glistened with oil in the early morning light. We may have lost thousands of good divers but we took millions of those clankers with us. I was the last survivor of the original squad I served with. When I was rotated back to the Terminid front, it just wasn’t the same. The Creek will never be forgotten.

Never thought I'd see the institute make a video on the Creek. Pretty awesome!
