Weight lifting was my yoga so to speak. I was never big on weights until 3 years ago then I guess I had a renaissance of sorts. I became a weight freak and over time got ridiculous results. But as of a few months ago, a doctor advised me to get a pacemaker for a heart problem I was born with that had been getting worse. Unfortunately during the surgery, they punctured my heart (1 in a few hundred chance). Over the next few weeks I had many corrective surgeries and almost died. In 1 single month, I lost 18kg of muscle alone. (They weighted me) Today was my first day ever training again with weights and I can tell you, it is a physically horrible experience trying to master weights that were mere child's-play for me 6 months ago. Having said that, it was mentally a great experience. I feel like i'm back. :) Your videos SERIOUSLY help with my rehabilitation. Thank you for being a positive force to all who need it.

Great message, here. My "yoga" has always been and always will be strapping on some leather and smashing a heavybag. Find what it is that makes you "stronger" and do it 110%. I did, I watched it until the very end. And I have more enthusiasm for our internal capabilities, than external ones. I believe that the strongest version of yourself is when you don't ever stop trying to become the best version of yourself. That you never lose that drive to reach that goal, and the only way to reach it is to keep being driven by such a desire. So, becoming the best version of yourself is more than just a goal. It's a way of thinking. It's a practice of character. And once you've firmly planted that willingness to never stop becoming the best version of yourself..then perhaps, you've already become the best version of yourself :)

Yeah I was just thinking while listening, (and this is the second video in a row I'm watching off him), that holy shit I have a lot of prejudice when I thought I didn't. In terms of judging this type of guy: Elliot. I would have never expected this depth and intelligence at face value.. Apparently I put this "type" in the tic box of shallow and arrogant.. The irony of finding me myself being the one who actually is shallow and arrogant in my judgement right now. Lol.. Great video and inspiring indeed.

i wanted to be a power lifter so bad. so bad i started using steroids. i felt so judged every time i went in the gym and stood next to dudes so much bigger than me. i realized that i no longer was happy and i was abusing my body. depression took an ugly path. it took a long time for me to realize who i was and what I wanted. once i learned who i was, i then found my happiness. surfing has been my life...i learned to incorporate the two and find my peace. good video...not everyone is the same. good message.

I'd have to say this is one of the best videos of yours I have seen ,we all have goals, aims, limitations, successes, and failures. The realization that you don't have to get lost in all the details and really soak in the experience for what it is and can be (regardless of what experience) is a great one. Too easy to get so lost in being performance oriented. As a newbie to all this (8 weeks into lifting, only 5 months into starting htis whole fitness journey) sometimes I get a bit too wrapped up in numbers/results/performance instead of just stepping back and knowing I am becoming, as you say, the strongest version of myself. Thank you for all of the helpfulness be it the technical strength-training items, or the more esoteric bits that just to sort m'mind.

Fantastic message Elliott. I was training aimlessly with a superficial image in my head, there was no strongest verison just the biggest version. One day I got invited to play badminton (a bit random I thought) with some new friends and found I loved it. It has now become my anchor, a reason to work hard in the gym, a reason to be the strongest version, not the biggest version I had once wanted and this brought me a lot of peace. Find your passion and thrive.

"The methods are many but the principles are few." "Anybody who comes to you with 'this is the one and only way' probably hasn't had their own experience... there are many ways to reach that strongest version of yourself." So true. One caveat to what you said is that in leaving behind your former passion and devoting your energy to a new one for a time, you may come back to that former pursuit with a stonger, more developed perspective which can only add to growth. No ending or beginning is absolute. Thanks for your insights.

"Don't be too attached to the method, be attached to the jewels you retain from participating in the method." Yet another wise philosophy Elliot. But if you want to be a champion powerlifter of strongman then you can't help but be attached to the method because the obsession manifests to your conscious mind from your unconscious mind and in that sense saying don't be too attached is likened to saying don't think about food too much when your hungry. At the end of the day the body and the mind are gonna want what they want.

Yo Elliot, This is the 3rd video of yours I have seen. I am impressed by your understanding, and depth of knowledge of things beyond "flipping tires". The fact that you realize that you are not the end goal of perfection and that there are many ways to accomplish things, and that "the strongest version of ourselves" is different than yours is very refreshing. You appear to be very intelligent and well read. Like your mentors, YOUR core is attractive as well. A wise man has many counselors, you are now one of mine.
@kenpachizaraki418410 жыл бұрын
I interpret the better version of yourself a similar way. I immerse myself and open my mind to personal growth and prosperity. what I get out of it is enlightenment, growth, personal achievement, inner strength and a sense of serenity in knowing i'm heading in a direction that will bring me inner peace. Elliott hit the point strongly about people who will tell you that there is only one way. it's one dimensional way of thinking. People really restrict their limits by being this way. I can't stand it. Over the years that I have developed my fighting abilities for MMA, I would come across people with one-dimensional backgrounds in combat disciplines. I would be told that only a certain way works or to never do a certain thing. I respectfully listen, but in my head I've I never accepted their reasons without finding out for myself the answers. because of this, I have excellent skills that would have never been discovered if I hadn't kept my mind open. It's sad because I know they wont reach the enlightenment I've experienced because of how badly their pride is glued to their one dimensional ways. Whenever I teach MMA, I make it a personal virtue of always encouraging an open mind because it breeds creativity.

I find learning an instrument and building muscle very similar. Playing an instrument is all about muscle memory, the process of learning a new guitar lick is very similar to lifting. Just through sheer repetition your muscles become stronger, at first you can't even move your fingers in the way needed to play the lick, but after a 100 times you feel more strength in that movement, your pinky can suddenly easily press on that string. Same with lifting weight. First time squatting you feel clumsy, you maybe can't get all the way down, you wobble a bit, but after doing a 100 sets you start to get the movement down, you feel more strength in your legs, you have more control over the bar. Weight lifting is just far much more direct. You can't see how well somebody plays a guitar, even if he shows how well he playst people can still say they don't like it or not understand it. You can't deny that somebody with a big chest and bowlingball shoulders lifts heavy ass weights.

I feel happier and much more confident, and I haven't "seen" any results yet physically. Why I've waited so long, I don't know. I'm so grateful for your videos. You're inspirational. Thanks, man!

ELLIOT HULSE. Incredible person. Understood and misunderstood, but he keeps marching forward. He truly was revealing what his plans would eventually be. Strength. Humility. Evolving. Seeking Peace. Hey, everybody, yeah, I get way more amped on weight training with the Warrior side videos of Elliot: the battle cries, the aggression, the bonding, the coaching, the fun of OPEN GYM, and The Strength Camp Coaches' videos. Yup, I'm a late subscriber. It's only been less than a year I stumbled into these highly energized training videos of a gym that just frickin' explodes with all the cussing, the laughter, weights dropping, people pushing their limits, the proper guidance with heavy weights, and the fun of talking shit, and discussing serious stuff too. Alot better than brooding in a bar, getting drunk, and listening to people's dramas, whining about their job, the news, even bitching about the beer. Yo Elliot, I've been watching and listening to this WHOLE video. No, you aren' t going off on a tangeant with your thoughts. Yeah, lifting weights is superficial, but your older WARRIOR training videos are truly life savers for so many. I , for one, enjoy these older videos because I didn't follow or 'grew up' with You like the early hundreds of thousands of subscribers did. It's alright that these videos show the 'superficiality'' of weight training. I have been so deep in the dungeons of thought that I hardly got my life into action. I truly feel alive swimming up to the 'surface' from this deep, filthy mud of my mind. Of course it feels superficial, the lifting of heavy weights, this skin, these muscles, but when I' m pulling in breath after lung burning breath from rapid, powerful reps of burpees, rocket squats, suicide sprints, pull ups, pushing/pulling weights, I feel my spirit ALIVE! One day, I will order your book, KING. For now, I am a SOLDIER. STRENGTH CAMP and Coach Chris Barnard's OVERTIME ATHLETES are amazing! God bless you Elliot Hulse, your family, your Coaches and Staff, and everything you expressed in this awesome video that you are doing, living, sharingnow. By the way, some Stronger Versions are dissing other Stronger Versions. I'm a Christian and man, I was so devout, but it had pastors dissing other pastors when I would attend other churches. I remain a Christian, but I stopped going to church. I was in traditional Chinese martial arts and joined a few schools to try this style and that style and there were those Stronger Versions ( Martial arts instructors ) dissing other established Kung FunSchools. You know, Bruce Lee was out to be the Strongest Version of himself and even he got dissed by some Traditionalist Martial Artists and even threatened. Anyway, even I'm talkin' too much. Time for FARMERS WALK and Pull Ups.....

I like these videos, I learned a lot of valuable info. Im an old fuck, 57 yrs old, but I go to the gym without missing my workouts, lm 5'9" 195 lbs, 7-8% body fat, thanks to these videos, I have the knowledge to proceed on my physical journey with the least amount of injuries, and negative pain. To all you guys in your mid 30s or even your 40s, you still have some good years in the gym. I appreciate these videos, they are very helpful, thank you so much!

dude you're very deep and your words are inspiring. It's beautiful to see a man give another man advice that they can take with them through out their life, and also pass on to others. The ripple effect, so to speak. Thank you for enlightening me and making me think and look deeper into my journey to becoming a stronger me.

Hey Elliott! Man I can't even begin to tell you how much I can relate to and also appreciate your message of hope that was hidden in a little video clip I chose to watch today, and let me say this... Thank You!! It's SO refreshing to see something like this from a man who has the physical fitness and wellness to be able to participate in rigorous activities, but who also cares about the "mental" aspects that are (very often) MORE important than the ability to lift 600lbs. You have a great point about the way people/society perceive "greatness" versus the way YOU (the individual) should view what TRUE greatness in a human is measured. I'm not trying to give you a whoa is me story & kiss your ass here either btw LoL... It's just that, I'm a car accident victim and I'll be the first to admit that I have been very depressed for YEARS due to my inability to walk around the neighborhood without worrying about when my nerves are gonna misfire and send my ass flying to the ground let alone lift and train the way I "should be able to" anymore. Half of my body is bad and the other half doesn't really work right! But the reason for me to share that with you is because I was just thinking about the way you were obviously using your visual cortex while in the explanation of what it TRULY means to be the "best YOU, you can be". I'm a firm believer in the power of mind over matter and you should know what I mean by that... anyone who has ever been in a gym [ for more than the 10 minutes to sign up just to say that they have a membership ( please :-\ ) sorry LoL anyways] KNOWS what I mean by mind over matter... it's where you get that extra "push" or that inner fire and desire to get something MORE from your workout. It's been MY "yoga" for years also, but I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to do weight training again. SO, I'm just glad you're serious about spreading the message of hope to the people in a fashion that they can relate to. I especially liked the way you describe how your muscle fibers are like that of an electrical system for a building. You have no idea how this message was necessary... not just "good to hear", but "necessary" for me to hear at a critical time of understanding my parametric shifting from the importance of physical appearance, towards the more reprised mental and spiritual growth NEEDED for a more productive, prominent and resourceful ME. As for the supposed 60% of people who haven't seen the video through like you said, they have NO clue what they're missing. I just wanna say, Thank You for the uploads and it's because of this particular video that I have subscribed to your channel. I'm also trying to be the voice of reason and inspiration/ the helpful hand in my local area and then my goal is to be able to make a difference in the lives of others as far as I can reach... around the world one day eventually! I'm happy to see that this kind of message is being spread by more than the average person in my circle. Take care and I hope to get a response one day. Your friend, Anthony H.

This video is Fucking Poetry. That's the only way I can describe what I just watched. I have been struggling with weight my entire life. And among other things, watching this video. Just now. Has made me realize that I am defeated. I've defeated myself. My only adversary in this fight IS Myself. And there are no more excuses. It's time to man up, tell my inner bitch to STFU and take responsibility for my own well being. Instead of always finding an excuse to fail. Thank You.

Thank you Elliott. I've spoken to many people and colleagues about the spirituality and transformation of pursuing weightlifting as a hobby or lifestyle, but haven't found many people who truly understand. The philosophy you shared was absolutely beautiful, thank you so much.
