every time I would see a disabled guy in school I would smile at him and it hurts to see someone gets bullied for something they're born with. I've gone through a lot of bullying. I've been called a fag, a giraffe, and many other names. I am a teen. While I understand your point, and that you do not speak with hate (I do not either, this is with the utmost respect that I say this) I must point out that not all teenagers are unsympathetic losers. I'm not saying I'm a saint, I'm not. I make my own mistakes like any other human being. I know teenagers and children who are kinder and more understanding than some adults, and I feel as if adults always play one of two cards. It's either "Oh, teenagers are so much more innocent than young adults!" or the much more common "They're all hooligan's". I'm not saying that you in particular made these generalizations, from my understanding, you didn't and were quite diplomatic. What I'm saying is that society as a whole tends to. I do not comment this to say anything about your character, your comment was not rude, and I'm not trying to be either. I'm simply giving my own opinion, as a teen growing up in this world. :)

This girl isn't to blame for what happened to her but she has to meet people halfway and wear the eye patch or prosthetic eye. At this stage in my life I am overweight with a large stomach so I don't go walking around the neighborhood without a shirt because I know people don't want to look at my fat belly. KittyCorn432 I am still having cancer treatment at the moment and you wouldn't believe how easily people choose to leave your side because it gets to be too hard for them to be there for you. They are quick to judge your temper and even compare you to others who also have disabilities yet seem happy. But the thing is, they only see what that person chooses to show. They aren't dealing with their sad days or their angry days. Going through cancer is so much more than physical damage. Mentally it destroys you and it's incredibly isolating.

Well probably not just girls. Plus there is the fact the children didn't have the knowledge of what she was going through or what had happened. I blame all this behavior on poor parenting and poor behavior of adults. My parents taught me at a very young age. Though I don't feel I could have ever made fun of someone even if I weren't taught. This girl is very strong! I was an adult when cancer effected my life. I can't imagine the living hell she's been through and probably will still go through time to time.

@@marloc2097 Yep...I agree educating kids when they're young can make a world of difference. Some kids might still end up being rude and judgy but I think when parents use teachable moments the kids learn to look at the person as a fellow human being first and understand that we all have struggles and are worthy of respect and compassion. When my kids see someone who is different, I don't feel particularly embarrassed for them to ask me out loud about the person. I mean I would feel bad if they got offended like if my kids use the words "what's wrong with them" or something but I try to point out things that are similarities. Like when we saw an amputee going for a walk on crutches. I didn't know her story and didn't have an opportunity to speak to her but I told my son she enjoys taking walks on a nice day just like we do but because she lost her leg (most likely to an injury of some kind) she used crutches to help her get around.

I'm the same way, honestly. I can be one of the coldest, most unfeeling, untouchable cunts on this planet. (My own mother even acknowledges the depth of my occasional ruthlessness. I'm never vindictive or petty. Or engage in cruelty only for the sake of cruelty. It's more... That I don't see or feel things the way other people do. What reaches or effects other people... Doesn't register with me.) And yet... I have this code. And I force myself to adhere to it... Young children, the elderly, those with physical disabilities, and those with (especially) mental disabilities? Are off fucking limits. It engages me, when I see people try to hurt them. As far as everyone else? They're all fair game. Learn how to defend yourself, or get "eaten". Essentially. Picking on those who do not have the ability to defend themselves? Is dishonorable. There's nothing more disgusting, than dishonor. A lack of integrity, and accountability. People today aren't taught what it means to have a sense of honor. They're not taught the importance of it, and how much value it has. To go after someone who has a distinct disadvantage that isn't their fault... It's disgusting. It's not that I don't understand cruel people. It's that I do not understand the ones who have no limit. No threshold for which they say, "Enough." People today have no sense of honor, integrity, or accountability. It's isn't necessarily cruelty that is the problem. The problem is cruelty that is unchecked, cruelty that has no limits. Cruelty that is not tempered with at least SOME compassion. Those are the things I do not understand...
