I Lost My Friends Because I Don't Play Sports

Zach used to have a ton of friends and they did all the stuff that boys do together - joke around in class, hang out and have sleepovers on the weekends, and get into trouble playing ding-and-ditch, crank calling girls in their class, and staying up late. It was awesome. He felt like it would last forever.
But then, when middle school began, everyone started playing team sports, and they didn’t have recess anymore; there was gym during the day and then team practice after school.
Pretty much everyone did team sports. All of Zach's friends joined teams and it was kind of surprising to him - It was like they had been waiting their whole lives, like they had a whole plan that they never told him about. But Zach didn’t want to join team sports - he loved playing, and loved running around with his friends - it wasn't like he was un-athletic or out of shape - but he just didn’t love team sports.
His friends started having practices every day after school, and games, even on the weekends, and they would all do things with their teams, always, and Zach just started staying home and playing a lot of xBox. He actually started to feel really lonely.
Things got pretty bad at school too. Zach would go join his friends at lunch and all they would talk about was the game on Saturday, or who scored the most goals and who had a sucky practice.
One time he invited them all over for a sleepover and they all said they couldn’t because of an early game the next day but that night he saw on Instagram that they were all out together having fun.
Eventually it got so bad that they wouldn’t even say hi to him in the halls. He felt totally ignored, so alone, and like a loser that didn’t fit into anything. He started feeling really bad about himself. He had lost all his friends, and there was no denying it.
Zach started staying in his room more and more, and playing hours of video games, depressed. His mom would yell at him to get out of the house, to make new friends, to turn the xBox off, but all he wanted was to be left alone.
Then one day he found a feature in one of his games that let him record the gameplay and change the angle of the camera and stuff. So, instead of just playing he started making short movies that had the characters in his game act out, then he'd export them and do the voices and add other parts from videos he'd find online. He taught himself animation, and other media arts skills.
Zach created movies whenever he could, and he got better creating more. He made online friends who let him direct them and to do voices. He showed his parents a few of them and they thought they were pretty cool.
And that’s when Zach really started getting into film and filmmaking. He read books about it, watched all the classic movies by the best and most famous directors, and it’s all he wanted to do, study films and make movies.
His mom signed him up for an after school film program where they used real equipment and learned all about how to make movies. He started making a few new friends, and slowly, started to feel like he was actually good at something.
Zach loves directing the movies they make there and feels like he has finally found what he loves to do and like he is a part of something.
Things haven’t changed much for him at school because most of the kids still only love sports and think he's weird because he doesn't. He misses his old friends of course, and sometimes wishes it was how it used to be, but he's part of something he really loves and who knows, maybe one day he'll be a famous movie director.

Like when I joined volleyball I started talking to the volleyball players and only talking about volleyball cause it’s something I’m so passionate about I’d give up my second favorite thing art just for it. I kinda relate to what happened when he stated loosing his friends, but instead the group of girls that I was friends with liked gymnastics, since they liked gymnastics when it comes to partner work they would always be partners with each other and I would be left out just because I didn’t have any interest in those ( neither was I good at them ). I was interested in drawing digitally. One of them would FORCE me to start doing gymnastics, I usually just stood there and watched them all having fun but then myself with a fake smile pretending that everything’s ok. This is probably why I don’t have any friends anymore since usually the girls in my class do gymnastics, they use me, or that they’re fake so I just tell them why I no longer want to be friends with them anymore and then usually the would just talk behind my back. People in my school are always so crazy and loud, I’m like the only quiet kid in the school. So then I couldn’t fit in like the other kids since they usually force each other to start drama which of course I don’t want to start any stupid drama so that’s probably why I can’t fit in. Usually the group of girls would tell me when lunch comes to start doing gymnastics because they think it’s fun. I would just say “ehhh...” and then they would just continue with their own conversation leaving me out because what I say had nothing to do with gymnastics.

My 6th grade best friend and i met another girl in 7th grade and we immediately became friends. Eventually my old friend became way close to the new one and they barely talked to me. We jokingly insulted each other here and there but then it got to the point where it felt like they weren't joking. To top it off, the newer friend would always use her "depression" as an excuse to be an asshole. I would share more details but i feel it would be too personal and/or triggering. That made me remember at my old school I didn't have many friends or at least REAL ones... My only had 2 actual friends and those where the people I hung out with most and cause I only had 2 friends I was super shy and so when I went to my new school it was better than my old one cause they were nicer and it was easy to get used to. Thank you storybooth for showing me who I am Me 2 years ago I couldn't find out what was wrong doctors said I was fine they said I'm normal but I didn't think that at all I felt I was more stressed than anyone else I knew they were all chill and laid back on the outside I looked normal but on the inside i was different than anyone else in my class or in my country for that matter people started picking up on a lot more things my normality disguise started to disappear and my true self started to unfold it started with my feet my feet started going up on the tip of my feet so I was walking on my tiptoes toes like a ballerina at the start it was barely noticeable but by the time I reached 8 years old everyone started asking me questions including little for 6 year olds or 5 years old asking me questions like am I am I trying to be ballerina and I would answer your back with no but people kept asking me questions but as I got older it wasn't just my feet that started to change my hands started to shake for no apparent reason some people thought it was stress others thought that I was just being a nervous wreck but those things were happening to me but these tremors in my hands wouldn't stop and they still are going on in my life today actually it affects me as a person in negative way all my friends in school have really nice writing really cool ways of writing even like laid back with writing I guess but me I'm just a scribbly mess it wasn't fair I wanted to be like everyone else but then something really did start to unfold the main reason why I wrote this you're probably thinking shaking hands aren't that out of the ordinary a little bit weird but not really out of the ordinary the main thing that happened to me and what help me was I have anxiety and with anxiety being in a school that has bullies and teaches that don't care anxiety isn't the greatest thing to have but this was only back in primary school I did not know what I was going to at that time I'm confused stressed and most of all just wanting answers so I went to talk to my Mum about it she didn't really know how to answer my question because she has never come across anything like this before being the fact that I have two younger siblings who both have autism you probably expect her to know a bit about this anxiety was something she never came across with my two younger siblings and it's something she never had and it's something my father has never had so none of them had any idea what I was going through and neither did I and that was until the day I stumbled across a KZbin channel and its name is storybooth I was looking at the previous videos and I saw a video and it was a animation channel you really appealed to me but when I looked at one of them and I actually can't remember the title at this moment in time but one of the words that stood out to me was called anxiety it was a word I've never heard of before or had to use before so when I found this word it really appealed to me so when I click the video this girl was talking about how she dealt with anxiety and I was like oh my god it's me how I feel on a regular basis and she was talking about anxiety attacks which happened to me really frequently and how stressful anxiety is and then in that moment I realised I needed to show my mum this and 5 minutes after I've seen the full video and watched it over and went into my mum and said Mum this is me and that day my mum decided to ring up an appointment and me later then found out I did have anxiety a really big case of actually but it's all thanks to storybooth that I actually found out what I had and if I never actually stumbled upon this channel 2 years ago I would have never ever have found out what was wrong with me and I would have lived my life with so many questions I love what you do with this channel storybooth and you make people like me smile every day I feel like anxiety is still a huge part of my life but it has improved and I'm always going to be a stressful person because that's the person I am but I'm not going to let anxiety control me and I'm not going to let this autism I have keep me from being the person I want to be. I have a similar story. So when i was in year 1-5 i was really good friends with this guy called Cain. Cain was a type of guy that everyone wanted to be associated with. But when we went into year 6, things got awkward, he met ''The cool kids'' they were called Leo, Jacob Ethan and noah. I tried to say ''hi'' but it was like i wasn't there. Mine is kinda same, but in my school there is this program for ‘better’ students which is called REACH program and all of my friend are in there and I am not so every time when I try to talk to them they will talk about they projects they gotta do like they get tons of homework for reading and Language Arts while I am learning about types of sentences in 8th grade and I really feel left out! I can relate to him so much! I really like to draw and I would like to pursue my goal of animating videos on youtube. But my Mom doesn’t care about what my passion is or how dedicated I am to it. She thinks that i’m a fast runner and that I need to to play sports. But I really don’t like sports at all and I have no understanding of what goes on in them. When I was in school I always got yelled at by my PE teacher or my classmates because I had to take action in a certain activity but I had know idea what to do. I totally get you! It can be hard to admit your passions! But just know-- I love art, too! I have many other passions, too! And some of my so called "friends" weren't loyal to me, they were only loyal to themselves (in other words, stuck up). Just be yourself, and pursue your dreams! Some advice would be to talk to your mom about beginning your own life as an artist! Tell her calmly that you'd rather not dedicate your life to sports (because honestly, I don't understand them either). And as for your PE teacher, let them know that you don't understand, and that you'd appreciate it if they could introduce you to some easier thing to accomplish. And as for your friends, let them know that you'd like it if you could spend more time with them (not to be rude but A. FORTNITE SUCKS and B. ITS UNHEALTHY). Luckily I have different PE teachers which are much more kind to me and help me more. Things still aren't better with my friends, though. They all still have their souls under the registration of Fortnite. Also I do have a friend that doesn't like Fortnite but hes not a good friend either. About a week ago maybe 2 he had a sleepover with a bunch of people that *WERE* in our little *Friend group* but he didn't invite me. Then he lied to me and told me his parents said "He invited too many people" Even though hes had larger sleepovers before. Its tough making friends in my life because people are so judgemental because I am short.

Every time we share what we do during the weekend, all the boys and one girl named Faith, who's my friend, start a whole display of how they're playing FORTNITE, and my teacher even scolds them for it! Also, your friends might not even be real friends- and it's probably best to start hanging out with people you wouldn't on a daily basis! Start being kind and they might do the same! I don't like sports either, but it's good to find something you truly love. If your friends ditch you over something that they love and you don't, they were never friends, not true ones anyway. True friends are the ones who stay with you forever.
