I've been listening to the audiobook of IWTV just to refresh my memory at the same time as watching the series. The film was such a powerful adaptation, but the series has breathed such life into it and added greater meaning.

If not for the series or the books or people in this fandom, i wouldn't have known that luois and lestat were supposed to be a couple and love each other, watching the 1994 movie, i don't feel their chemistry at all, they don't even seem to have platonic relationship
@DarkYvonne-re4wv Жыл бұрын
Partly due to Brad Pitt--he didn't even want to be in the movie and tried to get out of it, but it would have cost him a great deal of money to back out. So, he was totally not into any of it.

the thing is that in the books is something much more vague and never explicitly establish that they are a couple

I feel this, in fact, I feel 0 connections between the characters, only between Louis and Claudia, it doesn't seem like Louis has any feelings for Lestat and Lestat just seems obsessed for no reason but even though this obsession with louis is a bit shallow, claudia's death or her freak out over not being able to physically become a woman doesn't have that much impact either, it was all very rushed and seeming without attachment, I think this helped a lot with everything seeming a bit shallow and empty, especially since it's a movie with little time

thank you for this, I've never seen the original movie and not sure if I will (without the nostalgia, it almost seems a little cheesy in comparison to the TV show) but was curious how it compares! them changing the floating bite to a floating kiss/bite/sex scene was genius. also, I love how Claudia is so more expressive and full of character in the show (my favorite comparison is the one of her and Louis going to sleep in the coffin, the TV show Claudia is so cute about it)

The original movie is one of the best vampire movies in history. And although it is older, it is more successful than the series. I think you should definitely watch it. But of course I respect their decision.

Right like in the movie, Louis having a dead wife and daughter while the show being more faithful about Louis’ siblings. Where Kristen Dunts didn’t even look 5, as she was 10. Let’s not even get to how straight wash the movie was and Antonio being far too old and not even looking Ukrainian with red hair, let alone a teenager.

I seriously wonder if the movie lovers have actually seen the movie in recent memory. I dare them to rewatch it now, and say what they actually think. It is not good, purely plot, zero character development.

I fell in love with Lestat ( not Tom) when I saw that movie in 1994. I promptly read the Vampire Lestat and I love the snippets I’ve seen of the show and Sam’s Lestat. I can’t wait til school is done so I can binge watch. Interestingly, I noticed back when I saw the movie that Tom never actually kisses anyone on the mouth or anywhere. He only sucks necks, wrists etc… oh no etc.
@_notmyproblem_ Жыл бұрын
Well the 90s movie had to tone down the gayness. They even gave Louis a dead wife and child to de-gay it as much as possible. They also cut a scene where Louis and Lestat share a coffin in the movie because Tom refused lol.

Question - in the books Claudia is killed by the Theatre de Vamps partly because she killed Lestat ( as well as being a child vamp) right? So if this time Louis killed Lestat will that change the way they go with season 2 for IWTV? Thoughts??
@nocontextlestat Жыл бұрын
i was thinking the same thing. but since louis is alive in the present day, i guess claudia will be kiIIed on the show as well? i don’t know tbh
@DarkYvonne-re4wv Жыл бұрын
I think they will kill her because she attempted to kill Lestat. As Daniel said, Louis didn't kill Lestat with the throat cut--it allowed him to live instead (maybe even emptying some of the poisoned blood). Also, if I recall correctly, Lestat was in France and spoke to Armand and the vampires to keep them from killing them. Armand chose to keep Louis for himself and get rid of Claudia. Since Louis seems to think Lestat is still dead in 2022, then I'm guessing Lestat doesn't show up in France. This is a shame as there is a scene in the book where Lestat is holding the dress Claudia was wearing when she was killed--and it was clear he was absolutely devastated by her death. I HOPE something like this can be in the series because Louis needs to see that Lestat also loved Claudia.
