Hi Maria! I think it’s safe to call Tori an old soul. She has acknowledged it in an interview, she antiques to find old clothing, stuff and Carpenters memorabilia. 😊 I think you hit it on the head, Allan’s arrangement gave it a refresh and Tori’s voice and backing voices gave it a haunting feeling, in my opinion. The song is about a groupie (the original title) and that longing for the missing musician is felt. I’m glad you enjoyed it. Brace yourself for the next one. Joe

I hadn't heard Tori sing this version of Superstar yet. It was a really nice surprise. We're so blessed to have Ms. Holub - a true "superstar" yet to be discovered by the masses.

Brian! You mean you haven’t back tracked all my early reactions? Shame on you. 😂 This was her very first reaction by Carole. I gave Carole The Medley and she said it didn’t suit Karen’s voice! I said but it’s Tori? She found Superstar and I backtracked it to Lauren’s Topic. I had three songs for reactions and The Medley video. So I used it in all the early reactions. So much newer stuff came out, I followed the new. It’s a gem. Now if she’d do Richard’s arrangement with Jim. They’d give Leonid a run for the #1 cover. Though that is a spectacular cover. Jim would have Tori. Game over. Joe

Great comments Maria. I agree that now and then you can change a song up a little bit. Some songs warrant it and some don't. Im mixed on this one, And I think it may be one of the Carpenters most memorable songs. I believe Tori has done a short version in the original style that's online. Another thing she is very young here and her voice has not fully developed. I can hear the difference in the depth of her tone currently, versus at this earlier time when she's singing a bit higher. In any case, it's beautiful and they say voices continue to develop until age 25. She is only 21 still and likely 18 or 19 in this video. Thanks for all and for supporting your featured artists and have a happy holiday.

But it wasn’t a Carpenters song. They were the 4th or 5th to record it. Remember, Richard saw Bette Midler perform Groupie on The Tonight Show. Cher had it recorded also. Obviously Delaney and Bonnie originated it in 1969. Karen owned it but later Luther Vandross did his take. All fair on this one.
