i love lisbon: a free-spirited, spontaneous solo trip to portugal

i had 5 days free from work right before christmas, so naturally i had to fly somewhere far away. i had a few cities in mind, but i ultimately decided on lisbon because the flights were open and I wanted to ride in a lay-flat seat for the first time in my life. not to mention lisbon has been one of the top hot spots for american travelers for at least a decade.
i stayed at "yes! hostel lisbon" downtown in the baixa neighborhood, and i would highly recommend it to any of my fellow travelers. it was clean, affordable, centrally located, and the vibe of the staff and guests was warm and friendly. it's one of the best hostels i've ever stayed at. here's a link: www.hostelworl...
i found lisbon incredibly easy to navigate. there is an extensive metro system, featuring multiple subway lines, buses, and trams, but it's also an extremely walkable city. nothing i wanted to see seemed to be more than a 20 minute walk.
there are a bunch of castles and monuments, but i'm not super interested in stuff like that, so maybe i'll save that for next time. i just came for good food, good drinks, and good vibes. and that's what I got.
