Haha, this Wipes are sometimes very practical if I'm on Tour in North-Africa/Tunesia/Egypt or Morocco. ..because I'm in the Desert, with my Berber -Friends, their Camels and Horses and I need to use as a Redhead/Gingerhead a lot of Sun Protection Cremes! And I can't get it off only with a bit of Water, we have to take the Water with us! It's heavy! And save our Lifes! My Friends would become mad if I would spend our Water for this Shit! 😉😐😣 Okay. ..only a very little Amount of People are travelling like me. But for this Situations this Wipes are genious ! AT HOME....NEVER EVER ! 😉😊

As someone who deals with both chronic pain and reoccurring depression, I keep some compostable makeup wipes and a moisturizer on my nightstand for days when I'm not doing well. Being able to do at least some self care when I'm temporarily disabled really helps my mental and physical health. It also makes me really appreciate the days when I get to do my full routine!

Same here, Elicia. I always also have baby wipes next to me. They truly are a must for me .. It's bad enough that sometimes I have too go pretty darn long with no washing of my hair so at least I can make my face and body feel cleaner with them. It does help mentally, more than able bodied people will ever know really !!

This is amazing 👏🏻 You are so strong and you've given me ideas now too. As I get really low feom a few days upto 3 months, and l have last stage endometriosis so major pain that's crippling once a month. I just can't keep up. Then I go weeks being able to do the whole routine. I'm going to research these compostable wipes. I always think disability is mental health too. As it disables us from carrying out "normal" everyday activities.. And can be chronic especially if there's dual issues like physical and mental. I only get understanding over my physical condition. Anyway sorry to go on. Your post really moved me and educated me on what l can do whilst not adding to environmental stressed. Also making it ok that 'we' and others can't always do the whole skincare routine Xoxo ❤ 🤗

I appreciate you pointing out that people with disabilities need makeup wipes sometimes. I also want to point out that as someone with bpd, a mental health condition where moods can change very quickly, sometimes my depressive moods get so bad that I truly feel like I can't get up before bed and clean my face no matter if earlier in the day I was feeling well enough to put on makeup. I use wipes in that case as well I'm ngl. I also use baby wipes on my body after a workout. I don't like showering at the gym and honestly if I did, I'd probably go home and shower again there because I like to use all my products and stuff. It's just a waste of water at that point which is also a huge environmental issue

I loved this video, especially bringing up disabled people! Just a heads up, as someone who's disabled and part of that community, "Differently abled" is super cringe and not a good look. It's perfectly okay and acceptable to say "disabled". Differently abled has been used by a lot of abled-body people in a way of trying to "inspo-po*n" disabled people with toxic poisitivity. Think "your disability isn't a disability, it's a super power", that type of thing. It's generally a hated phrase in the disabled community.

Yeah, I've always thought this tbf. Even as an "abled" person. I've worked in care a lot and at one point was close to a disabled neighbour and a fairly consistent opinion was that they found it quite patronising. Most disabled people don't want to be treated like they're fragile little glass teapots. They want to be treated normally.

As someone who is disabled AND works in health care (though not atm because I am on sick leave) we are actually encouraged to use the word 'differently abled" rather than disabled 😔 I get it, I can see my disabilities as more than just negative things. I can see how I can "turn it around" and let them be "my super power". But heck, most of the time it sure doesn't feel like that! But I also know, that a disability is literally being unable to do certain things. It sometimes feels like people want to reduce me to just my disabilities, but eventhough they are part of me, they aren't who I am. Yes, I am good at certain things, probably partly due to my disabilities. But you know what? Literally every person out there is good at some things and bad at others. More than a super power, it is basic, human variation

Yes, my mother taught me this and now I have to use wipes for the few times per year that I go out, as I'm severely disabled now. But I never knew that people only used one wipe!!! That's gross. If I am in too much pain to use a wash off cleanser then I have to use wipes. But I use one for each eye, as you do not want to pass possible infection between eyes. Having had pink eye a few times I'm very cautious of this. Then several wipes until nothing comes off it for the rest of the face. People are calling me wateful, as they do not know who I am or what disabilities I have. Then I come back at them, and I'm the one with the chip on my shoulder. They're editing their answers now to make it look like they were not 'coming for me'. I was a lawyer and one of the first things you're taught is to never make assumptions. I'm trying to do the journey to zero waste. And we no longer use loo roll. We use soft organic fair trade face flannels, as so much water is made making loo roll is the 'sustainable' brands. Only their paper pulp source is renewable most of the time. We've set up our grey water to water the garden. Buy all our veg locally, as well as our meat. And no I don't think you need to be vegan to have no waste. I come from Ireland where all the cows are grass fed as the farmers have plenty of fields of nice grass. And the cows are cheaper than a mower, same with sheep. My hometown, all the meat is from within a 5 mile radius and the veg is all local to Northern Ireland too. And in winter they have silage which is grass/hay cut in summer and then is left to almost ferment. But it means they're grass fed during the winter too. They use the cow manure as fertiliser for crops and such. They rotate their crops, as you can only grow potatoes in one field in a year and then you have to leave that field fallow the following year and the farmer through out pea and clover which naturally fix back the nitrogen into the ground. Nothing manmade basically. And the farmers have a co-op local slaughter house so the meat never travels more than 10 to 20 miles. Your veg doesn't travel more than 10 to 20 miles. So tiny carbon footprints. Also in a rural community, by buying local and supporting family run businesses and such like, you are keeping your money local, which in turn keeps those jobs local too. And it's not as bad for the environment as shopping at the big supermarkets on the mainland of the UK. Oh and for the big supermarkets to be allowed into Northern Ireland they had to agree to use local suppliers for all their fresh veg and meat etc...

I’m a ballet dancer and makeup wipes are essential for backstage emergencies. Micellar water has a potential to spill on costumes and props. For after the show I use a cleansing balm and a cleanser. I’m also a haunted house actor in October. We are required to remove our makeup before leaving our haunt, and we have to walk across the park to punch out before 11:30. They give of ponds cold cream and a makeup wipe. There’s no time to do my whole skincare routine, so I have to use the wipe to get the cold cream off.

Yes! Total throwback to my ballet/theatre days. Makeup wipes and tide pens were an essential part of your kit. Not to mention only three sinks between 20+ people and we had half an hour after curtain to get out of there or face the wrath of the stage manager. You did what you could and prayed to the skin gods for the rest 😄

I do think it would be very interesting to see wipes versus a cleanser used for a week, but it has to be done without other actives or spot treatments. If a makeup wipe doesn't clean all the makeup off and it makes you break out, I'd want to see that without reactive treatments to try and minimize the issues.

I don't shower everyday. I have dry skin and have eczema, and when I was growing up my mom had a rule, if you sweat today, you shower today. So she would ask if I sweat that day(I played soccer competitively year around) and if the answer was yes, I'd shower. I still go by that rule, and since I have purple and blue hair, I only wash my hair once a week now, and I'll shower and wash my body whenever I sweat, but im disabled and some days I don't even get out of bed, and a shower is waaaay too much effort🤣

I try to remind myself, Cris, when I feel this way (often about flosser picks) that the disposable and waste-heavy options were made for people like us (disabled, extenuating circumstances, etc.) and it is okay for us to use them. The people who are being pressured to reduce their use of these really are those using them just out of convenience and not out of need. Plastic straws, flosser picks, and makeup wipes wouldn't be as big of an issue if they were only used by people who really needed to.

I am unable to stand at the sink to cleanse my face and can physically only take an actual shower about once a week, so my entire skincare and hygiene routine revolves around the ability to do it in bed. People in the beauty and skincare world often forget about us, so thank you so much for bringing it up! Also, just a quick reminder that disabled isn’t a bad word. Terms like “differently abled” or “special needs” are condescending and make it seem like being disabled is a bad thing. Always ask what someone in particular prefers, but generally speaking- don’t be scared to use the word disabled! 💕

I've just had two beautiful butterflies make assumptions about me because after a night out I sometimes use wipes. But I was taught to clean your face until there's no makeup on it. So I use a wipe for each eye, as don't want pink eye and then maybe another three or 4 on my face. Until the last wipe is basically clean. So not wanting to explain how I have hidden and visible disabilities I had two people just call me wasteful. Just making total assumptions. But because i come back swinging at them I've got a chip on my shoulder. Then they say they're not calling me wasteful but they are as it is me using that amount of wipes as I want to be clean. I never realised that most people only use one. Which I think kinda gross. I'm sure we can all agree that we don't want to have to announce how we are disabled and have to do this as people's attitudes change straight away. Now this person is desperately trying walk bck by making it all my fault. It's the chip on my shoulder!

This is a problem as my skin is über sensitive , oily and acne prone where everyone says wash with hands and water. To give my skin a more thorough cleanse I hv tried to use cleanser rinsed by micro fibre cloths however I’ve now become intolerant of any friction so I’m back to wipes. I’m using simple glow which are textured, fragrance free, biodegradable, recyclable packaging & are 5* recommended by Beautypedia. I dont feel clean though but i don’t wear make up . I came here specifically looking for advice on if there exists any wipes that I can use occasionally on the days when my disability/chronic illness prevents me from leaving my bed or too sick to stand up long enough to do my routine. I don't wear make up, but I do need something to remove my sunscreen. Thank you so much!

I use makeup wipes for another reason altogether. I use them to clean my dogs paws after every walk (along with some natural cleanser). It helps me keep the potential for any bacterial or viral infection to a minimum. Especially in the age of COVID. Otherwise I would never use makeup wipes.

Yay, finally someone with common logic that can point out that makeup wipe can be useful!! In fact, my kids play alot of sports and wears waterproof sunscreen but they don’t clean well (refuse to double cleanse) and end up breaking out. They won’t do oil cleanse or micellar water, but makeup wipe since it is so convenient. Since then, no issues with breakout. So between Using makeup wipes as the first cleanse to take off waterproof sunscreen is still better than leaving on waterproof sunscreen overnight. This also brings up the point of sunscreen, yes we need to put on like 3/4 teaspoon. Yes, but if I can only get my kids to put on 1/4 teaspoon is still better than not putting it on at all.

My mum gifted me a bunch of makeup wipes and for the longest time I have not been using them because I’m satisfied with my double cleanse until I realised that I can use them to clean my makeup / work desk. I also bring them for “emergencies” whenever I go out or I expect to stay over at “someone’s” place but I also carry a small bottle of micellar water and some cotton pads and those are the ones that I do end up using. So yeah... for me so far I’ve only used them as desk wipes 😂

I have dry skin and my scalp shows no oil until about a week of not washing it. When I was young it was always frustrating how I couldn't wash myself as often as my friends because I didn't want to be seen as gross for not bathing as much. Now I'm more comfortable with it. I wash the areas that are important everyday (armpit, nether region and face) but not everywhere. And if I work out I just rinse with some water. It's really helped.

What an Awesome insight Cassandra, thank you! Cruelty-free, salicylic acid wipes from Balea is what literally CURED my butt acne good-bye. And I was so self-concious about it for my entire adulthood. one can't rinse their effing butt every time you sweat or wear pants for 2hrs straight, can you? (and I live in Northern Italy, so summers with 40°C or 104 grades F plus humidity at 90%, wish u luck not sweating even in yr sleep) And still I feel bad bc of all the anti-wipes narrative, which I believe is actually valid, I do. But maaaaan, those clean cheekies? Forgive me, but there ain't no going back, SA wipes forever!

I’m so sorry, but butt acne caught me off guard and I kinda laughed out loud. Anyway, I live in Germany and Balea is a very well-known brand here, but so far I have not seen any of their products are cruelty free. Are you really sure? Most products from Balea are vegan, but that doesn't mean they are not tested on animals too.

I like eye creams because I have dry skin but my eyes are very milia prone to moisturizers with oil (that the rest of my dry face loves) and so I need a separate product for my eyes. However I often just use a regular oil free moisturizer for my eyes but I do like the extra peptides in eye creams.

Ive always kept a pack of makeup wipes, travel toothbrush/toothpaste, and contact lense solution/case + an extra pair and eyeglasses in my bag "just in case." Especially came in handy in my early 20s when I was going out with friends and sleeping at other's people's houses all the time. Even if I did come home at the end of the night, it was hard enough to make sure my contacts got taken out and teeth were brushed after a night of drinking. The likelihood of my face getting washed at a sink was practically non-existent. I don't live that kind of lifestyle anymore, but I still keep those things with me, and they continue to get use to this day. There have been enough situations where I had to take my contacts out, or gotten sweaty or sick to my stomach and needed to clean my skin or teeth on the fly, and I'd have hated not to have those things with me.

Important note: if you can, find a way to rinse your face after using a cleansing wipe. Esp if you have sensitive skin. This could be anything from wiping your face with a wet paper towel to actually rinsing in a sink.

The misconception is that either a person uses a makeup wipe only OR cleansing. And that's not the case for some people. There are people who use it as just ONE of the steps in the cleansing process. I for example use a cleansing balm first before cleansing, but sometimes when budget is tight, I instead buy Albolene to melt my makeup first. Albolene doesn't rinse off like most balms. You need a wipe or a small towel to wipe off all of that oil before finally cleansing thoroughly with a foaming face cleanser. Is it still bad for the environment? Sure. But I feel like people who use it as a middle step never get acknowledged. It's just always demonized completely.

The only thing that’s a problem is my skin, especially around my eyes are very very sensitive (I even used a frangrance free one that’s meant for sensitive skin and my skin was feeling like it was burning and my eyes got red and puffy and I was going really gently)

I’m not sure you can get them elsewhere, but Wotnot is an Australian brand that make fairly decent makeup wipes. They are biodegradable and compostable. And are okay for sensitive skin (at least for mine). I don’t use them very often. But I have a condition that can make me very fatigued and I figure that they are better for my skin than just not removing my sunscreen/makeup before bed when I’m not unable to. They almost feel a little oily, but in a good way. Like they don’t leave residue, but they are soft when wiping your skin, not like a wet scratchy tissue feeling.

On Showering: if I take a Shower more then every two days my skin and hair get so dry its really bad. (Yes, I shower with only dlightly warm water and just 10-15 min and I use a mild cleanser and mousturize right after) So I wash the "stinky parts" twice a day with a mild cleanser, my face with water in the morning an d evening (on make up days I double cleanse in the evening) and take a long oil bath were I shave, wash my hair and apply a hair care routine once a week. I think showering everyday is harmful for the skin and hair for most people and it is super wasteful.

Please don’t use the word differently abled. As someone who is in the disability community I find it quite offensive. Of course I can’t speak for everyone but most people agree with the fact that disability isn’t a bad word and isn’t something that we should shy away from. It’s a part of us and there’s nothing wrong with using the actual terminology. I’d be glad to have more conversations with you regarding the subject matter.

Actually, I found make-up wipes from UK that are biodegradable, contain oil and clean the face amazingly. However, you need to go with all other products - second water-based cleanser, water, etc. I was sceptical but their idea is to take them when we cannot take oil or balms (airplane, long travel).
