Scary thumbnail! The Avene did give you a nice coverage for occasions when you might want it. Loved your experiment with the makeup removal cloths. I myself prefer to use coconut oil - just apply some to the lashes, give it a few secs to dissolve the mascara, and gently swipe with a cloth. Cheap and easy! Have a great day.

Lol But it's hard to remove the coconut oil after, and I don't like the oil and water mix, because they don't mix. That's why I use cleansing oils. The cleansing oil comes right off once I rinse it. Of course I double cleanse too.

OOOhh that Avene tinted product looks glorious! I'm a dark skinned girl and loving the Elta MD UV Shield, but I still have a bit of a white cast. I can definitely leave the house with just the sunscreen on, but my skin looks just a bit off, and when I reapply throughout the day, I have to get all of the sunscreen off before reapplying so it doesn't look too ghostly. The Avene looks like it would be a great product to throw on a bit of over my Elta MD to hide the white cast! The tinted EltaMD was waaay too pale for my skin, I'm happy to see that the Avene comes in more than one shade! Definitely going to try this out!

I love the Avene tinted spf! It also has ceramides and I find it to be hydrating. Functions as a mineral spf, makeup, and moisture boost - and non-irritating to boot - a definite win in my book! I have the medium shade, which is a bit orangey for me as well, so I plan to pick up the lighter shade next time.

Hi Dr Dray! A mineral based sunscreen with pigment that works well with dark skin is the Obagi Sun Shield Tint. It's an spf 50 and comes in two shades, cool and warm. However this is a very expensive product for what it is. It does blend beautifully into my skin with no white cast. I had some samples and I'm on the fence about purchasing the full size.

@@DrDrayzday I hope I'm not in grave danger because my parents didn't apply sunscreen to me or themselves when I was a child and we made yearly visits to the beach and I played Outdoors a lot. I can't really recall when I started sunscreen but I do know I was using it when I started taking a sun sensitive medication. I was not told to reapply it throughout the day however.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on makeup wipes. My youngest daughter(8 yrs) has eczema, allergies and very sensitive skin. She had to wear some makeup for a dance recital last year and I purchased those Simple make up wipes thinking they would be gentle enough to do no harm. She cried because they burned her eyes and they also gave her a full face of inflammation and rash. I would not recommend them to anyone who has truly sensitive skin!

jlsat3 - aww, I'm so sorry to hear this. I have a 9 year old nephew. and after his annual day performance I removed his face paint with coconut oil. you can also use Vaseline. please don't use the wipes coz they almost always have some kind of alcohol in them which causes stinging.

my favorite thing to use for eyes is coconut oil! it literally melts off the mascara and i just wash it off under the sink with with a cotton round. I use micellar water for my face makeup or even slab coconut oil on that and it just melts everything off and moisturizers at the same time so it doesn't burn/sting or make my face super dry.

That thumbnail ha ha! I don't use makeup wipes, because of my sensitive skin and I'm cheap lol. I use mineral oil, purchased from the laxative aisle at Walmart. Whatever it takes to get fragrance free! I really like the tinted Cotz, then I use concealer for age spots, and top it with the NYX Stay Matte But Not Flat powder. I love the look, much better than foundation. Which is saying something for my 57 year old skin! Thanks so much for the rec of the Cotz in the melasma video. I didn't realize how nice it would look with the powder. On my neck and arms, I use the Banana Boat Sunscreen for Kids SPF 50, which is mineral and fragrance free. But I absolutely hate the IT CC Cream with a burning hatred lol. The orange oil and eucalyptus oil irritated my skin. "Good for you ingredients," my bee-hind. It's popular on You Tube though. Enjoyed the vlog as usual!

After watching so many of your vlogs, I have purchased the tinted Elta MD and have been enjoying it. It was quite a hefty price at my derm's office and I found it for a much cheaper price on Amazon. Would you recommend buying it through online sources or is buying from my derm's office better? Also, I'm a darker skin tone and am curious to find some good sunscreen recommendations for us darker folks because I always have a white cast. I have tried the Garnier micellar water and I find that it removes my mascara quite well (although to be fair I never use waterproof because that stuff is too much trouble to remove). I would recommend putting it on the cotton pad and holding it to your eye for about 30 seconds before you start to gently run it across your eye. Also, you should try tubing mascara. It's much simpler to remove than regular mascara.

Margie Medina You may want to try adding a drop or 2 of the CoverFX Custom Drops, to your preferred Zinc and or Titanium sunscreen product. That’s how I managed to turn a non-tinted version into a tinted one, that doesn’t leave that dreaded white cast. (It can also help you darken a tinted product that’s too light for you.) Just get one that’s in your skin tone. Sephora sells them for $45(?) It’s expensive, from the looks of it, but it will last you a long time. If you’re not sure it will work for you... just ask the ladies at Sephora to make you a sample. (It will be more of a challenge to use only a drop, if the put it into a sample jar... but it’s free, so you can test it out, before committing to buy.)

I totally agree with the wipe usage situation. I have rosacea and normally avoid them like the plague but I recently spent two days in the hospital with my daughter in law after her c-section (she’s fine and granddaughter is perfect ) . I had rushed out and forgot my skincare bag and ended up using her Yes to Grapefruit wipes. Yeah, it was bad and I’m finally getting rid of the rosacea flare I spawned THREE weeks ago. Rosacea HADES!

I have the same issues with stinging from towelettes. I find it much better to just remove everything with a watersoluble facewash. Neutrogena Naturals fresh cleansing + makeup remover for example removes susncreen, longwearing foundation, eye makeup and lipstick in one go, no rubbing needed and it doesn't over dry the skin used like this. If I wear light makeup Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Foaming cleanser removes it all, no tugging. I think these options or water soluble oil cleansers (origins oil cleanser/body shop camomile cleanser) for non breakout prone skin are the best option for makeup/sunscreen removal. Tugging and rubbing around my eyes is a nono, so I hate eye makeup removers. Most micellar waters are pretty useless compared to those too imho. There is one exception, bi-phase micellar waters. They are a good pre cleanse for when you use waterproof foundation and sunscreen. But they sting the eyes more often than not too. Not a fan. Very much enjoyed this blog. Thanks for sharing.

The best wipes are by Kirkland. They are the daily facial wipes. You buy them at costco in bulk and they are SO worth the price. Some people say they are dry but I disagree.. I store them upside down and they seem to stay wetter for longer. But I was surprised I loved them because I’ve only liked the neutrogena wipes and these are far better and you get more bang for your buck.

I am prescribed Clindamycin Phosphate and Trentinoin Gel 1.2%/0.025% (it is combined) for acne. It dries out my skin a lot if I use it everyday. I have very oily skin without it. I find my foundation looks really bad and highlights the dryness and flakiness (wish I had skin like yours and didn't have to wear foundation!!). Do you think it is effective if I use it once every other day or once every third day? I moisturize like crazy. In the morning I put on a vitamin c serum and sunscreen. Love your channel!!

Hi Dr. Dray! So far, the Elta MD 41 physical sunscreen has done the best job of camouflaging "white cast" when worn alone. I usually layer a BB cream with an SPF of 35 over it if I need to wear makeup that day. Recently, I tried the Green Screen Daily by Farmacy and that sunscreen practically disappears! It does tend to pill, but doesn't seem to burn my rosacea affected skin. Lastly, I have been using Coloscience's brush-on sunscreen to reapply. Do you have any thoughts on the brush-on sunscreens? Apologies if you've covered this question in the past.

I could not tolerate the Simple wipes...burned my eyes and face. I love the Neutrogena wipes. But honestly I prefer the original wipes. The fragrance free wipes don't work as well AND the cloth is rougher...no burning but really rough on the eyes. And yes they tout no rinsing necessary but seriously. Also yes you didn't rub enough whigh is bad for that area.

Hi Dr Dray. Since discovering your channel, I've become much more diligent in sunscreen application and reapplication. However, I find that, especially during the summer, all those layers are really clogging my skin and causing some breakouts. I use very lightweight sunscreens. I know that face wipes aren't ideal and neither is constantly washing one's face during the day. Can you recommend a gentle method for getting rid of previous layers of sunscreen before reapplication? I don't use makeup so I don't need to scrub too much. Thank you !!!!

The only face wipes I have found that aren't harsh on my face are the Equate Sensitive Cleansing Facial Wipes. I don't think any of them are great at removing mascara, especially waterproof. Btw, I forgot to mention the pronunciation for Avene. It's A+been - just replace the b with the v. I have been using the Avene Ultra Light Hydrating Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50 for sensitive skin but it kind of stings sometimes when I apply it. It irritates the area around my eyes. My skin isn't particularly sensitive, but I treat it as such since starting Retin-A 0.025. Recently I got the Neogen Dermalogy Day-Light Protection Sunscreen SPF 50/PA+++. It is a mix of mineral and chemical suncscreens and I like it a lot better. I don't care for the IT Cosmetics cream because I find it to be too heavy of a product on my skin. Another good product for color and sunscreen is the Dr Jart+ Premium Beauty Balm SPF 45.

Hello! I use clymayacin (i think thats how you spell it, probably not) and benzyl peroxide both prescribed to me. i put the clymayacin all over my face and the benzyl peroxide only on my forehead since i have the most acne there and it seems to be working for me. should i not be putting the clymayacin on my whole face? should i do the aquaphor thing too? i also use a facial brush in the shower and rose hemp dr bronners soap, is that okay? i top off the face after i put on all the ointment with lotion, and then sunscreen.
@DrDrayzday
@DrDrayzday 7 жыл бұрын
Yeah it is best to use the clindamycin and benzoyl peroxide (BP) together, as the benzoyl peroxide helps the clindamycin work better. I like aquaphor to my lips because they get dry and i like it around the eyes and nose to keep the BP from getting in those areas, but if you are doing well without it then no need to add it. I am not really a fan of facial brushes as they cause irritation to come to the skin, which drives the acne to persist and potentially heal with discoloration.
