The owner did the right thing, he realized he could not properly care for his feathered friend and got him in to a good home. It must have been heartbreaking for him to give him up, if you have had a parrot you know how strongly they are bonded to you. Hard times can happen to any of us. Wishing both parrot and previous owner better times ahead.

@@carolirvine3367 Thank you for your compassionate post. I lost my dog to cancer 2 years ago after 13 wonderful years together, and I still weep for her. I often struggled to pay vets bills, but I never once considered giving her up - I would have died first. It wasn't easy but I begged and borrowed when I had to and she never went without the best medical treatment, delicious food and total love and devotion. So I understand how hard it must have been for this man to give his parrot up. He found him a wonderful home where he knows he will be loved and have all his needs met. That is love. He has my respect. I hope he will take comfort from these videos. I think this is going to be one very pampered bird!

@@glamdolly30 I lost my cat and nursed her through cancer after losing my partner as well It was horrible, but I agree. Even know the pet food in our local store has doubled in price but my cats will get fed first. The thing that angers me most is people who are so cruel to their animals and don't feed them. I watched an episode of animal cops Huston last night. It was from 2002 and there was a doberman who'd been left to starve to death. He was gripping his chain with the last of his strength. It's affected me even though I watch things like that all the time. It just made me so angry. The good thing is she got arrested the mum who blamed her son who was 13 for not feeding them. As if she couldnt' walk a few feet and feed that poor dog. I am still upset. It's in the past but it just finished me off.

As a person who helps care for two macaws, they can be a pain to trim. Claws? Dealing with their little murder feet there. Beak needs trimming? That's their nut-cracker your fingers are in. Very intimidating bird when they want to be, if they don't like the grooming it honestly won't happen. Sometimes Puck's beak gets way longer than his brother's since he doesn't like to chew on things either, it's always a trip to the vet to trim him down. They're very gorgeous to keep in your home, but I could not handle owning a toddler with feet knives and a screamer beaker for around 80 years. The stitches I get when I see them once a week is bad enough LMAO the poor vet we go to must be torn to bits. They do understand baby though and they know when to be gentle, but any man they meet gets a death grip until they bleed;; Some birds, unfortunately, are never taught how to be birds. You could adopt a 70 year old macaw who's never flown, who hasn't had a chance to learn to dance or speak, might not even know other birds exist, or even the outside of their cage. Could just be another bird who was taken long before it could learn how to bird, my rabbit didn't really know that he should chew on things until we got him a friend. Macaws learn by seeing their friends and other animals, taking away those learning chances leaves you with a disabled bird similar to how this one was handicapped(almost complete ringed nails, overgrown beak, sometimes there'll be plucking of the feathers) Still, a lovely bird. Seeing how he trusts Asher shows he wasn't a mistreated bird. We got the two rescue macaws back in 2015 or earlier and they still need hours just to accept a guest in the house. Any males send them into a panic, sometimes having me over makes Hook shut down. We had a shower installed in their bedroom, so now whenever someone comes over they usually gotta shower with the boys, best and easiest way to make them love you. Can carry the boys out like babies after a shower lol the sweet derps

Be careful with him outside Lee. He can fly off and not be able to take care of himself. There are leashes for them. He is incredibly friendly for a Macaw. And sweet. Remember he can pop your hand of at the wrist if he wants to. Please please don't let him loose to fly. There are larger stronger birds of prey who would kill and eat him. On the positive side, they can eat soooo many foods! Even peppers! And they can be very fun. Some are chatty some are not. What's his name? Is it a boy or girl? Have fun with him. He will love to take showers I'm sure. My friend used to bathe her cockatoo with shampoo and even conditioner. Find out what the vet says about it. Bless you Lee. I would so love to have birds but I have a small place with cats who would also love to have a bird, for dinner!

After his beak is trimmed, walnuts, hardwoods in his cage and a free flight perch will help him keep that beak trimmed.you can treat him and teach him to let you trim his nails with patience. Lots of veggies, sweet potatoes carrots, broccoli and no avocado! Avocado is instant death to a bird. My moluccan cockatoo loves apples, corn on the cob etc. I know veggies are messy but they extend life and good health. I worked at a bird rescue with over 500 birds doing food prep! So lovely to see that he’s in a much better shape already🤗 And he has already taken to you so well! As a parrot parent myself, this warms my heart❤️ Just one thing: Lee, make sure to get him a bird harness / flight suit with a leash! It’s really dangerous for him to be outside otherwise; he might fly off if he gets spooked or gets caught by the wind, and then he likely won’t be able to find his way back and will get lost and die of starvation or attack from a hawk 😥 So please get him a harness for when you want to take him outside! It’s for his own safety😳 He is very beautiful ❤️ Thank you for taking such good care of him already and bringing him to the vet and cuddling him 🥰❤️ Also, if you ever have questions about bird care, there are plenty of subs/forums at Reddit specifically for parrots and parrot care! 🤗 I hope to see more of you and this little sweetheart😊❤️

This is my favorite rescue of yours. Parrots are next level. They are as intelligent as a human toddler and he will probably live as long as you do. It really impressed me you knew what to do with him from the get. Parrots get sent to shelters so often because people don't realize what complex, emotional beings they are and just how much interaction and involvement they need. They love just being part of your life and hanging out with you while you just do your daily routine. They are also not "in the moment" animals like dogs. They NEVER forget and it's hard to gain their trust when it's been broken. I love seeing how the boi just warmed right up to you! Thank you for saving and loving him.

What a gorgeous Macaw! He looks happier already. You can tell he was much loved and well cared for at one time by how quickly he accepted you. Now lets see how wild he gets after the "honeymoon" period! :D

This bird is so sweet. Our family's parrot has a bad attitude, so even when he's sweet, he's never like this macaw.

The guy who gave up the bird did the right thing. That's one lucky bird who just started a whole new great life. I bet he hasn't been outdoors in a long time.

The way you feel about your new rescue, Mr. Asher, is the same way I feel about you! And he even gave you a kiss, to thank you, after you treated him to the spa!!!! That was the best part!!!!

I used to have a one-eyed Macaw. I would leave him outside in the Mimosa tree during the day with food and water and bring him in at night to sleep in his cage in my room. I also had a little poodle who would jump on his back as he was walking across the floor. I love the both sooooooooo much.💞
