Bought these a couple of months ago for professional mixing and casual gaming and absolutely love them; they’re very comfortable to wear and I think they sound pretty good for mixing purposes. I enjoy the open-back aspect of them especially when gaming online because I don’t like to hear my voice so muffled while talking into my mic with closed-backs on. Nice video, cheers!

It's always been a point of contention for me, Making efforts to mix on the flatest devices for frequency response, knowing the work is going to be listened to on systems with big boosts in certain ranges. Perhaps mixing on phones with slight boosts in the bass and treble would serve to offset that differential?
@kabnoot3 жыл бұрын
Having a few cheap headphones or a cheap speaker setup will help a lot with this. Alternatively playing your works in progress in a car could also help tell you where the problem areas are. I use the m50x to start a song then listen through Mackie studio monitors after I've built a bit of music to help tell me more where I need to tweak my eq.
@Triforcefilms3 жыл бұрын
@@kabnoot ya, I always listen on my home theater speakers before calling a song done, but even that is pretty balanced compared to some of the wonky setups out there. Eventually you just gotta admit you can't possibly mix for every setup.

One of my favorite things about my DT-770s is that they are by far the most comfortable set of headphones I have ever tried on. And somehow, despite having giant, roomy earcups with velour pads, they manage to retain the bass response as well as much more claustrophobic, vinyl-padded headphones. They're the perfect office headphone (back when offices were a thing). They isolate as well as any other closed-back headphone, but are soft and breathable enough to wear most of the day. I would absolutely love to see a Bluetooth-capable version of this family of headphones, but sadly, there probably just isn't a sufficient market for it. For now, I'll have to manage with my ATH-M50xBTs and their affinity for gluing themselves to my face after five minutes of use.

For that exact same reason... I am obsessed with my Sennheiser HD 660S Open back, over ear headphones. They are as crisp as real life. They are high on the trouble... 😊 So absolutely sharp that you cannot tell that it is artificially generated sound. I especially love the fact that they breathe, and all natural sound around you still comes in... Almost as if you are listening to speakers instead of headphones. Surprisingly, they are amazing for gaming as well! I will never use another brand as long as I live... So long as they keep their quality up.

This is exactly the video I needed! I've been struggling to find good headphones for mixing in this exact range, so these are perfect. I already have other headphones I can use to check out the bass and some really cheap ones for, well, testing cheap headphones, so this is nice!
@docimodo3 жыл бұрын
The clamping force seems to be a problem across the whole range. However, if the construction of these is anything like the DT770 you can give them a little tweak/bend outwards as the band is metal the whole way around. This really fixed the issue for me as they hurt after a while for me and I don't even wear glasses!
@darkstatehk3 жыл бұрын
These are indeed tremendous headphones. The ONLY thing I didn't like was the fixed cable (as you have highlighted in your video). I modified mine by installing a mini-XLR in the cup and creating a custom cable (there are videos online on how to do this). After the mod, they are just the best ever. I hope Beyerdynamic address this if at all possible.

Hey Pogo, love your video. I collect headphones (a bit unusual as a hobby :D) and have these too. One of my favourites, I deeply recommend also the Meze 99 .. gorgeous in both optic and audio! The Meze 99 are also not flat, but for example your voice in this video I can really enjoy the deepness of it. Also I can wear glasses + the Meze 99, with the B990 I had trouble too because they clamp really well. One of the most exotic but well lay out headphones I have here is the Audioquest Nightowl. Love these also, but not so good for Audio Mixing because of the unusual superb color of the headphones. I also enjoy these very rarely but when I do oh man I have fun without limits.

I use a set of M50x headphones for general purpose and gaming. They sound better than a lot of my more expensive cans. It is also really interesting to hear that headphones might need to settle. I had to sit and think about whether or not that was the case with any of the pairs I have. Some aged poorly over the years, but others aged great. My Grado SR80x Pokemon Edition headphones sounded kinda bad at first, but I started putting them on with my record player after a few months. They mellowed out and got richer. My SteelSeries gaming headsets I've had have all started out sounding amazing and got better as time went on to the point I prefer them to my Airpods Max. My Razer headphones did not fare so well. I use them if I need to travel and must play online with friends. They're not my go-to ones. They sound worse, to say nothing of the mic quality. My Airpods Max are weird though. On one hand, they sound great, but they struggle with loud, bass heavy music. They just get muddy. Dialogue and classic rock? Perfect. Listening to movies in the Airpods Max is better than my sound system though.

I've been wanting to get these as an alternative to my closed back 770 pros for a while (had them for two years now) only thing I'm worried about is the impedance. My 770s are 80 ohms and I already have to turn the knob up to around 2-3 o'clock to get it loud enough for mixing, so I'm nervous about how the 250 ohm would do with my Scarlet 2i2
@angryguyxd3 жыл бұрын
I used to have 770 pros 250ohms, and my roommate let me test on the scarlet 2i2, as long as you got an amp to pair with the 770s, it will be fine, it sounded great although I do remember the bass being "softer" but still more clear, that's the best way i could describe it. Though, that could have happened due to the schiit magni I was using. A proper amp will definitely help out.

I would recommend to replace the earpads with: "brainwavzaudio Headphone Memory Foam Earpads - XL Size - Hybrid" way more comfortable and does not hurt when wearing glasses and only cost 20usd, I have also replaced the cord with High quality spring coiled audio cord, and I plan to add a 3.5mm connector to mine so the cord is easily removable as well. I have the Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO version, my biggest complaint would be general build quality, cheap plastic and breaks easily, I am on my second pair in 10years, first one I repaired multiple times until it was unrepairable , and my second pair have I also need to repair them a couple of times, I have had issues with the speaker driver on both pairs and needed to replace it, though to be fair I use them 8-10h a day. I am really happy with my now after the upgrades, and replacing the earpads makes such a huge I highly recommend it.

I have these headphones and they are great (beside me having a big head and they crush my ears) something else that is important is having a bad pair of headphones or speakers on purpose so you can hear how they sound on terrible audio equipment.
