I am so sorry to learn of Jed's passing. I have gotten much entertainment from watching his videos during which he always seemed to bring humor to any situation. That verse you stated is one I discovered after the recent passing of my mother and it is so very true and comforting. A parent should never have to bury their child, but after seeing your youtube page, I have comfort in knowing that your faith in Jesus will carry you through. Jed was a cool guy and was blessed to have friends and family who loved and admired him greatly. The narration at the beginning of the video is a true testament to the love of his friends and it was as gut wrenching to watch as it was for him to create. God bless You, God Bless Jed, and God bless the family and friends he left behind. So thankful for all of the videos of him living his best life and for those who made it awesome.

2 years ago, I took down a 35 foot black walnut in my backyard. After being quoted absolutely ridiculous rates or being ignored by all the arborists in my area, I decided to do it myself. I cut it down, cut the limbs into firewood and built a chainsaw mill to turn the trunk into slabs. I had never touched a chainsaw prior to this endeavor, and everything from safety, to technique, to sharpening the thing, almost all of my knowledge came from this channel and learning from Jed. I feel like he literally taught me everything I know about this. I don't comment on videos, but this is an exception. Rest in peace man. Thank you for everything, and thank you Jacob for the channel and everything you're doing

it is absolutely incredible how much bringing down a single tree can cost. We recently got quoted something like $7500 to bring down about 15-20 moderately sized trees so I've done the same as you -- relearned it myself
@elliottbrown1725 Жыл бұрын
I think it's important to keep in mind that those absolutely ridiculous rates are for the exact reason Jed's life was cut short. Tree work is an incredibly hazardous job that few recognize. Not only the risk of limb, but also property. No matter the size of a tree, there's almost always a hazard presented. What a blessing it was that you were able to gain the courage from Jed's instruction. I too have gained so much from his videos.

@@oleharbo7265 Check out a book called Professional Timber Falling from D Douglas Dent. Jed probably had a copy of it, it's the Bible of timber felling and is used as the textbook in the high school classes that they have in the Pacific northwest on timbering like the classes other high schools have in carpentry and metal shop. I've never seen the "8 Different Ways to Drop a Tree" video from this channel that people are talking about that Jed is in but I noticed a clip in this one where he just got done cutting a Kerf Dutchman notch, the book covers that and just about any other type of notch that anyone would ever need to know for tree felling. I used to be a structural ironworker and used to timber when work was slow, I live in Pennsylvania and had been logging for a while when I went to work for an outfit that the owner hired a guy from Washington state to run the crew, he was on the run from a bad divorce and came east to find work, he was telling me one day about that book and when I saw it in my Bailey's catalog I picked it up with my next order and it was a serious game changer for me, it covers more than just felling, bucking and limbing is covered extensively in it also, and he covers safety a good bit in it. After getting too old for hanging iron or logging I started getting work on weekends from people who had large trees on their property they wanted removed, I'd go look at jobs and as long as I had a clear lane to drop them I made some decent side money doing it, why let a saw like a Husqvarna 385XP sit around, there's easier saws to use for firewood that's for sure, I figured either put it to work making me money or sell it and get a smaller one for firewood. That was a great saw, I cleared the sides of a lot of mountains with it and made weekend money dropping monster trees in people's yards along with countless truck loads of firewood, after 12 years it ran as good as the day I bought it when I sold it and the 2 foot and 3 foot bars I had for it to a young man who was just getting into logging. RIP Jed, I've lost too many friends over the years in the occupations I've had, unfortunately in those lines of work it goes along with the territory, but you'll never work around better people, there's no back biting and petty behavior with the types of men who'll do those kinds of jobs.

Definitely the type of person that makes the world a better place and will be sorely missed. As somewhat of a tree feller myself I can understand what he said about the “ineffable” feeling that that sort of work gives you. You feel godlike way up in a tree, overlooking everything around you, while at the same time, being on the ground dropping one also gives you a real sense of power and the forces of nature. RIP Jed. I’m sorry for your loss Jake. The first video I watched was your video with him on the different ways to fell trees. The amount of knowledge he had about tree work was easy to see. I didn’t know him personally but I felt like I did through your videos.

Was introduced to both of you with "WORLD'S BEST TREE FELLING TUTORIAL". I must say I always wished there was more Jed. If a man as calm and thoughtful as Jed could be struck down you have to know it can happen to any of us no matter how much you believe otherwise. Gives meaning to the adage "live like today is your last". I dont know but hope and believe Jed did. More than anything my heart goes out to his family.

I'm so sorry Jake, there's no hurt like the hole left by losing a friend. Keep the memories alive, remember the good times swinging saws and banging wedges. Jeds dropping tops, covered in sap and wearing a big grin in the great forest in the sky. Stay strong.

Having lost my dad in a tree climbing accident in 2008, this really hits home about the dangers of this job. Although I didn’t know Jed, I felt like a close friend after watching dozens of KZbin videos of his tree work, he was definitely a master of his craft.

Thank you, Jacob, for the beautiful tribute to Jed. He was one of my favorite gentleman to watch on your videos. Even through the internet I could “feel” his kindness, generosity, love of family and job, and just how darned special he was. God obviously needed Jed more. 🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻

I saw this last night and it's been stuck in my mind. I feel a strange sense of loss for someone I've never met. I always got the feeling that Jed was a good person and friend. I'm not sure what I can say that hasn't already been said, I will miss the kind internet stranger who shared his knowledge with the world.

Jake… my heart is truly broken. I never thought I’d shed a tear for someone I didn’t know personally. But I was proven wrong today. I can feel your pain and I’m sure many of us feel it as well. Keep your head up brother your community will come through for Jeds wife and little girls . I have a wife and 2 little girls and possibly another on the way. I share the same line of work as a tree climber and bucket operator and I will take this lesson and apply it everyday. Stay diligent , stay focused , follow your heart, and trust in gods plan. For Jed is now with the lord in heaven with streets paved of gold. We will all be up there with our fallen brother one day. Untill the. Every tree I take down will be in memory of him. R.I.P Jed you are a warrior. You’re energy will carry through, you will never truly be gone. With all of my heart I love you guys.

Jacob, Thank you so much for putting this video together and sharing it with all of us. I was fortunate enough to live with Jed for a few years while I was going to college down in Oceanside, CA. Even back then he was wise beyond his years and taught me so many valuable life lessons. It’s amazing to see how many lives he touched through simply being the man that he was. From his early days as a pro skater to his days as an arborist it seems like he had a way to touch all those around him. My heart breaks for Kristen, their girls, his family, friends and loved ones. I can’t imagine how hard it must have been to put this video together. Thank you so much for sharing this. He will truly be missed. 🖤

Dammit. I’m sorry for everyone’s loss that truly knew Jed. Anytime I’ve lost someone this close in my own life, the one thing that brings me peace is to know that living out your life to the fullest and continuing to share the stories of that person throughout the rest of your own life is what they would want you to do. I’m sorry for your loss Jacob. He was truly in love with tree work.

Sorry to hear about your friend. I first saw you guys on your "worlds best tree felling video". Jed immediately stood out as a hard and thoughtful worker, one of those rare people who doesn't sit still, constantly trying to improve efficiency in what he does. That fact the he was willing to share what he had learned was a testament to his immense character. Great job on this tribute video.

You know Jacob, when I started doing tree work, I had a deep passion to learn the trade. You, August, Buck’n, Jed, and eventually Gordy, etc have ALL been mentors to me. The knowledge that I’ve gained through all of you has literally kept me alive. Kept me from making deadly mistakes. And kept me the most knowledgeable guy on the job site. (8 ways to fell a tree) is just one example. When Jed spoke, I listened. None of you know me at all. However, I feel honored to have gotten to know the side of Jed that he was willing to share. I’ll remember him. And pass his knowledge on.
