Thanks for sharing, they were doing the same a few years ago to leftie in my country too. My Uncle (74 y/o) was a leftie and they force him to write with his right hand. A bit "cruel" but quite an advantage after cause you can fully use both hands at your max if you keep working a bit on your left hand. Friendly regards Gabriel and thanks for the video.
@gsincraian11 ай бұрын
Absolutely! It's true, every situation has good and not-so-good sides. Your uncle being made to switch hands might have been tough, but it's cool that he can now use both hands really well. Life indeed presents us with unique opportunities in unexpected ways.

Loving your stories and the gold nuggets of information that you embed in them. I had heard that you should put forward the foot that goes forward to brace when for example someone pushes you from behind. Luckily that was my less dominant left foot that shot forward. It definitely is much more comfortable having the dominant foot behind when the weight gets heavy.

yes , definetly. thanks

I remember your video from a few months ago where you said lifters should do the split jerk with the dominant leg behind. I am right-footed and always put my right foot in front, but I decided to try putting my left foot in front. After a couple weeks of feeling very awkward, it started to feel good, and then it felt really solid, and finally it actually transformed my form in the split jerk. Everything feels better: the dip, the drive, the landing, my stability. Thanks so much for this advice.

Ahahahaha exactly the same with me :) I was a terrible writer when young and would switch hands so my Mum taught me right handed but everything else I'm left dominant.
@jamesguacamole324611 ай бұрын
good to know. this is the first I have ever heard of this concept. When I started I tried both ways but dominant foot back just felt more natural - I guess I got lucky
@Notfromhere66611 ай бұрын
When I started weightlifting I didn't know that they say dominant leg in front so I just instinctively put the dominant leg behind. Then my trainer told me one about this and I though ah shit I'm doing it wrong but now thanks to your video I know the truth! Thanks Gabriel!!!

We had the same here in Finland, left-handed people were taught to write right-handed. In the history left-handed people have been thought of being something like the devil's minions or whatever. But the interesting thing is that shockingly many artists (be it visual or other arts) are left-handed.

This was my issue too! I was naturally a leftie, but I grew up in a religious family, so they forced me to write with my right hand. It took me a long time to figure out what foot to lead with in WL

Hi Gabriel. Do you think it’s still worth changing legs in the split jerk if I’ve been training for over 3 years? My split jerk has always been my weakest lift, I can probably clean 155-160kg, but have only ever jerked 147kg (and very often miss lighter weight).
@gsincraian10 ай бұрын
I will change for sure then :)

Did I get this correctly. The dominant foot should be the backward foot in split jerk? I am ambidextrous, kick football with my right foot but my left leg is stronger so the left leg should be the backward foot in split jerk in my case?
@gsincraian11 ай бұрын
yes the dominant leg behind. If you kick football with your right leg, you should place your right leg behind in a split jerk.

You are not a freak you are a real cool person 180kg snatch in training!!!!!

in the olden days, the coach would hit you unexpectedly with his hand on your chest; then, depending on which leg you moved back to not fall down, that was going to be your *hind* leg ! Always trained both positions, though (for some symmetry) but with emphasis on the _"right behind, left in front"_ (I'm a _righty_ ) and when the bar is getting heavy (110-120 kg or more) you don't even *think* of doing it in reverse: you just can't; the body refuses to go under! My experience, anyway...
@chocoerosion565811 ай бұрын
Gabriel, if I am correct you are meaning to say that if I kick with my right leg that it is my dominant leg. You also say that in the split jerk, your dominant leg should be back in order for proper stability. Is this correct?
@andersbjrnsen720311 ай бұрын
the leg you kick a football with.
@gsincraian11 ай бұрын
yes, that is correct.

Interesting! The world is not fair to left-handed people. I teach guitar, and it's so difficult to find instruments for my lefty students as well.

Dear Gabe, You are making a mistake. Your right leg is your dominant leg. You are a lefty and right leg dominant. It's very uncommon but they do exist. When you kick something, your right foot is on the ground. You have better stability with your right leg. You use it much more than your left leg which is why you also have knee pain on the right.
@gsincraian11 ай бұрын
yes you have right, when I kick a ball my right foot is on the ground and this is meaning that is my non-dominant leg and the dominant is the leg that I kick the ball. probably in your country is different, I don't know, but in Romania this is the difference between dominant leg and non-dominant.
@durrantmiller881011 ай бұрын
Dude are you trolling?
@diemme56811 ай бұрын
Gabriel is right _everywhere_ ! the "dominant" leg is the one you kick the ball *harder* with! It has to move more rapidly in a split jerk (has to land first!) and be _behind you_ , thereby supporting the weight with the dominant HIP (not the leg itself) so it'd better be the dominant one.
@BasedDon6911 ай бұрын
@@diemme568 What you are referring to is being a lefty or a righty. Just like being a left handed or being left handed, we can be right-footed or left-footed. That is different from being left/right foot dominant.
@diemme56811 ай бұрын
@@BasedDon69 hem, .... no: I referred to being a lefty or a righty *with your legs* . that's why a good coach would push you inadvertently backwards to see what LEG you draw behind to stop from falling. I'm a righty (hands AND legs) and my HIND leg is the right (dominant) leg. established that way 40 years ago
