KENEDI Smith, 28, has been a surrogate three times. She said: “I would say I am addicted to surrogacy.” She was first inspired to become a surrogate as she grew up seeing her own mum, Ellen, complete three surrogacy journeys. After she had her son, Kenedi started looking into how to become a surrogate when she was 21 years old. Ellen was concerned at first but then got on board with it and supported her daughter through the journeys. The pair started a podcast to share their stories and discuss topics related to, and inform listeners, about surrogacy. Kenedi said she loves being pregnant and going through delivery. She said: “I love being in the delivery room with them. That's my favourite part. And being able to watch them see their baby and meet their baby.” But Kenedi has also been judged for her role as a surrogate. She has received comments saying she is ‘messing up’ her own child, or that she’s ‘playing God’. People have also questioned her motivations - saying that she is only doing it for the money. Kenedi said: “People have accused me of selling my body.” But Kenedi asserts that she has been able to show her son different ways people can have a family and said: “My main motivation for doing multiple services is I can. It's my body, my choice.” Kenedi is in the process of beginning her fourth journey and is excited to be a surrogate again and to continue making an impact in the surrogacy world.

Surrogates need to be paid so much more. One pregnancy should be at least $120k. You are doing the work 24/7 for ~9 months. It infiltrates every aspect of your life during that time plus the recovery period. And the time is the least taxing part of this job- the actual physical and emotional labor put into pregnancy in and of itself should be worth at least $120k. It's a commendable job and I'm glad she enjoys it, but she deserves more (as do the majority of working class citizens).

Surrogacy is such a profoundly generous, selfless thing to do. Money doesn't balance out the physical hardship, the risk to your health (and potentially your life, especially in a country like the US with a high maternal mortality rate), the possible longterm medical consequences, the time and energy you commit to everything involved in carrying a pregnancy to term, etc. I'm 100% childfree and even I can understand that, lol. Thank you for everything you've done for those families, you absolutely amazing woman 💜

Anyone who has never experienced not being able to have a child, the pain and heartbreak of miscarriages after miscarriages, or even your uterus taken from you by cancer or other reasons, you have absolutely NO right to talk down on her and others who do the same. They are providing a women who can’t carry a child to full term, a chance to be a mother. For a man who has too low a sperm count, or any of the number of things preventing him to be a father, to be a father. If you have never experienced this pain, you have NO RIGHT TO LOOK DOWN ON THEM. Period.

You're not entitled to a biological child. If you have a friend or a family member who is willing to do it for you out of charity, great. But you don't get to shop for a womb and then try to control its owner for nine months for a disgustingly low sum. I genuinely think that if you want to rent a womb and buy your baby, 1 million would be the absolute lowest acceptable price for putting another woman in danger and pain just so you could have a biological child. Again, you are not entitled to a biological child, no one is. Being a parent doesn't hinge on passing on your genes, if you want to be a mother or a father so much, find a child that already exists and is bereft of parents, and shower them with your parental love. Don't buy another woman's womb and life (lest you forget, even today, pregnancy can end in death) just so you could satisfy the sheer vanity of insisting that your genes keep on going.

Ukrainian women and Georgian women would like to have a word about what's wrong with it. So would the woman who was left with a twin with a congenital illness because the Australian couple who had used her as a surrogate wanted the healthy twin, but not the autistic one. And then of course other stories, like a couple that went to visit their surrogate in Mexico, seeing that she lived with her three children as a single mother in a house that didn't even have flooring, just pure earth dirt floor, and still congratulated themselves on a cheap deal. You don't realise how exploitative the whole rent-a-womb business is, how much agencies that arrange surrogacy skim from the women's labour, and how controlling the would-be parents often are to the point where the surrogate basically surrenders her whole life and person to the whims of people who think of her as nothing more than flesh to be used.

Seriously. Pregnancy is 24/7 work for 9 months that is difficult on your body and even today can still end in death. You can't 9 to 5 pregnancy. A single surrogate pregnancy should cost 1 million at the absolute lowest, jesus christ, there are luxury cars more expensive than the 9 months of work this lamb puts in for frankly a pathetic sum. You want to buy a woman's womb and her life for 9 months? Pay the hell up. You're not entitled to your genes being passed on, so if you want to have a bio baby so very dearly, cough up the money.

Do what, buy another woman's health and womb for a frankly insultingly low sum of money? Everybody has their tragedy, miscarriages are a tragedy, but not being entitled to a biologically related baby is not. Sorry to be so callous in the face of your pain, but to buy a woman like that for what amounts to a vanity project (which we biological children are. Our parents realllly insisted on having mini-mes)... Now if you had a family member or a friend who'd be happy to carry your child for you as an act of charity, that is different. But the moment profit enters the picture, you're in bad waters.

I think what she does is a truly beautiful thing. Just because some women can't physically have children, doesn't mean they don't deserve them or won't be phenomenal mothers. It isn't easy to carry children, and regardless of the hardships she may endure while doing it, she continues to give these precious gifts to other women who can't do this themselves. What a wonderful woman ❤. She most definitely should be compensated. She has a child she has to support, and it would be hard to continue to do such a selfless act, literally giving her body for another life, AND working an average job. What a wonderful woman ❤

To be honest, I've been wondering if that's something I'd like to try. I've never wanted to have my own kids to raise, but for some reason I'd like to experience pregnancy. But I'm sure I'll have to seriously educate myself about surrogacy because it doesn't sound that easy to do, with the risks of the pregnancy and the attachment one may have with the newborn. Idk much about the subject but if they have no regrets I'm happy they were able to go through that experience and able to help others who want to have children but weren't able to have them naturally.
@anneedrupt11
@anneedrupt11 10 ай бұрын
They don't allow people without a child to be a surrogate, as you'd get too attached and want to keep your baby. At the end of the day, you carry it, nourish it, and feel it kick; it's yours. Then you go through a long hard birth, and you're meant to say, here's my baby, because you can't have one. You have to be desperate for money to do this. Take the money out of it and no more surrogates simple!

Pregnancy is extremely taxing and hard on your body. It's not fun. She SHOULD get paid. Additionally, she still has a family and expenses and ultimately that 120k isn't going towards frivolous spending money. Shes not rolling in money...this truly comes from a desire to help others.

I've had 3 children and I don't care how much you paid me I wouldn't have been able to just hand them over to someone else. I think women who do this over and over are attention seeking. Pregnant women already get tons of attention and they get even more being a surrogate I'm sure. She even said she was drawn to the attention her mom received from the dads?? I bet you were honey I bet you were lol

Why do people insist their bloodline is special? I just can’t understand why people are so against adoption. I’m not faulting her for making bank on this, but I definitely think people who want a surrogate or do IVF are disgusting.

Going through adoption is not as simple as you may think it is. And can be as expensive surrogacy ect. Adoption is amazing and so is surrogacy. No one should judge because we don't know the pain everyone involved has been through and the reason they decide on the journey they need.
