Gutted Olivia Colman wasn't available, especially as that scene on the beach was between Nick and his mum on the comics. The aunt was a really good substitute though. I like that she was just as loving and sweet as Sarah without being a carbon copy, both characters feel very distinct. They did a really good job.

But I think they did a great job. I have the exact same diagnosis as Charlie (plus generalized anxiety) and when I read the “love can’t cure a mental illness” line in the books I literally cried for HOURS and then I cried again when I heard it in the show

Yes that line stuck with me when I read it and then hearing it… As sad as it is, I think that whole speech was VERY important for young couples to hear. Especially because young couples can unintentionally put so much pressure on each other and themselves to “fix and cure” the other persons life.

Okay but Tara and Darcy's relationship as a concept is so underrated. These two have gone through so much stress, so many disagreements and problems, and they always get through them with their relationship fully intact and stronger than before. A strong bond isn't one that never breaks; it's one that is tested over and over and over without breaking. Also Elle could absolutely be classified as a major part of my queer awakening.

I love that the conversation between Nick and his aunt happened so early in the series! It's so important for younger viewers to understand that they alone cannot help someone who carries too much on their shoulders, to just be there for someone (as they're getting the proper help) is worth more than people realise.

I didn’t realize it at first either, but the reason Charlie didn’t go to Nando’s with Isaac was related to his eating disorder ☹️ So as much as I do sympathize with and love Isaac, it makes complete sense why Charlie felt he couldn’t go.

Normally I binge these seasons in 1 sitting. This season I had to take a break between episode 4 and 5. It was so emotional for me. Hit very close to home and these actors do such an amazing job.

As someone who's experienced disordered eating for most of my life, I really appreciate the way they approached the ED storyline. Some of the darker aspects felt a _little_ breezed through, but we gotta remember what kind of show this is. It's nice that it was approached in a "hopeful" way, without diminishing the seriousness of it. I also really like how even though Nick directly brought up the eating disorder while he and Charlie were in the water (which is super awkward and uncomfortable), that he then says "I know you dont want me to try and fix you or anything," and then continues to try and express love and concern before getting cut off. He doesn't know how to bring it up but knows he has to, so he does and then immediately realizes that he didnt word things in the best way and tries to "sugarcoat" it a little, after seeing Charlie's reaction. It felt very true to life (at least in my experience). I'm so glad that younger people have this show! It's great representation, tackles serious subject matter without being just horribly "tragic," and I wish I had something like 20 years ago!

Mr. Ajayi and Mr. Farouk’s relationship is so important to me 😭 As someone who didn’t come to terms with their queerness until college (earlier than Mr. Farouk, but I share his experience of confusion and repression during high school because my school wasn’t a welcoming environment), I love seeing not just teenage queer couples on this show, but also queer people on different journeys and timelines of self discovery ❤️

In season three, Nick's family all are welcoming and inclusive and warm (apart from David, who does make an appearance and hasn't really changed sadly) and Charlie's mum does seem to be cold but there is a nice story arc for her which makes you understand why she is like this as a mother.
