Me again. Imogen is such an interesting character because she never actually does anything wrong. She's a little awkward about it but she's an ally, she has a crush on a guy, she's confident in herself about it... she just happens to crush on a guy that doesn't like her back. We've all been there. She's unknowingly in the way of Nick and Charlie but it's not her fault. The asking Nick out in front of everyone was not cool though... but I get it. We were all idiots as teenagers, don't even deny it.

Yes! I was going to say the same thing! (Except I’m a little bit older than 55 🙃!) I grew up in the deep, deep woods in a town with no name. They tied me to a tree and set me on fire. Seriously. But the only gay person, I wanted to make it better for the younger generations that would come after me and needed to feel safe. So I took the beatings, had to stand up to the Southern Baptists, took the rapes and kept fighting to be myself. This show reminds me it was all worth it. His reactions had me crying in hopes that he actually knows he has it better than we did in the past. Yeah, I wish I had an easier time in school but that was not my purpose.

There are three scenes in the first three episodes that made me absolutely fall in love with this show/story/characters: The first time they said Hi to each other in episode 1, the snow day in episode 2 (by far THE BEST AND CUTEST/PUREST scene in the whole show IMO) and the kiss in episode 3. Those three scenes describe what Heartstopper is about, and as you say, it's hard not to relate to your personal history (story?) growing up. The doubts, the understandings, the flirting, the smiles and the moments of personal, secret interactions in these three episodes are so legit, so sweet and so freaking adorable they actually do melt your cold, insecure heart. Looking forward for the next reaction videos, and how excited are you for season 3? I can hardly wait! (P.D.: the smiley face scene is also a beautiful one. I just love this whole show wholeheartedly)

Just came across your channel because of this video. Your editing is hilarious 😂 I'm a 40 year old gay man and had the same reaction to the show you're having. I had a terrible experience through 8 years of school as well in the 90s, lots of bullying both verbally and physically from so many different people. I tried to deny being gay, I tried to push it down out of existence which of course didnt work, and on occasion I tried to push back which just made it worse. All of the bullying basically conditioned my nervous system to be constantly expecting my safety to be taken away from me and conditioned it to be constantly in an agitated "flight or fight" anxious state. I ended up with severe social anxiety and complex PTSD which i still struggle to deal with. Watching Heartstopper absolutely WRECKED me the first time. I watched it on repeat for weeks and revisited scenes until the emotional punch finally wore off. The show triggered a profound sense of unhealed shame, grief, and sadness towards what my experience had been. I was sad I didn't get to have what Nick and Charlie have, I was sad that something like this didn't exist when I was a kid that said being LGBTQ+ was normal and not something deserving of shame, it was triggering traumatic memory flashbacks and unhealed trauma, I was a mess. The interesting thing when the show first came out was that this was happening to many, MANY LGBTQ+ people young and old. Many from older generations were having this reaction especially because it validated our existence in a way we've never been allowed to have or been given in media. It celebrates queer people and treats them with happiness and dignity. I was hearing this experience called experiencing Heartstopper Syndrome, having a profoundly moving and emotional experience watching the show and not knowing how to process what you're feeling as a result. I look forward to seeing the rest of your reaction videos for the show. I can't wait for Season 2 in 2 months!

Alice did such an amazing job translating some of the key scenes - like the kiss and Nick int he rain - from the graphic novel to the screen. So glad they gave her so much creative control. I've been reading the comics since I was 13 and I'm so happy we finally have a show😭 The actors did an AMAZING job, I was pleasantly surprised at how Alice managed to find the PERFECT actors to portray the characters I love so much. It's like they all came straight out of the graphic novel. That without mentioning how the actors who play Nick and Charlie have the same sexuality as their characters, the actress who plays Elle is trans in real life, the actor who plays Darcy is non binary (they/them pronouns) and the actor who plays Isaac is gay. Not only did they respect the ages of the characters by hiring actual minors to play them but they also hired a mostly queer cast, which is so nice to see because most of the time all the actors playing queer characters are cishet.

Niall, so glad KZbin recommended your video - you helped me remember how it first felt to watch the show ... which was about 12 watches ago! Like some others, yah, I cried along with you here, totally. Yes, this is a show that you can watch again and again and again and you always find something new that you had missed - and it NEVER gets tired or boring! There are just too many iconic, cute, touching, poignant, funny, life-affirming moments in each episode! And the music! The music. The original background music, yes. But the curated music sung by various artists ... SO ON POINT! My favorite little sequence of music is the end of Ep. 1 when Nick is in the car with Mum and receives the text from Charlie - and the song "Don't Delete The Kisses" by UK band Wolf Alice (from 2018?) plays and the haunting but beautiful way the song ends together with Nick looking out the window and smiling, and the pair of seagulls, and the cut to BLACK and you hear the end-of-song reverb ... it just sends chills down my spine! I watch that scene again and again and cry every time. And the first kiss! Oh, the first kiss. And the beautiful on-point music that composer/performer Adiescar Chase scored for that scene is just EPIC! Niall, get ready to be IMMERSED in everything Heartstopper - this show will do that to you - for me it felt like the entire show Heartstopper was my new boyfriend! SO obsessed for months! - especially here on KZbin, SO much content! And, yes, tears of sadness of what I didn't have, tears of joy of what this is and what this will mean to all the newly-out (or wanting to come out) LGBTQIA+ teenagers. Even if, as Kit has said in interviews, it is a "rose-tinted" view of things, it will make all the difference to young boys and girls trying to figure themselves out. And, yup, count me in as another middle-aged gay man who got SO much out of it. Thanks again, Niall, will continue on to the rest of your delicious videos. And, your getting to the show so late, you are SO lucky that you have less than two months and you already get treated to Season 2!

Your reactions were so similar to mine when I watched it! Pretty much a happy-sad response to how wholesome and beautiful love can be. I, like you, had nothing like this growing up, and spent a long time closeted and unsure of myself. I now reflect on it and wonder what life could have been like, had I been braver. I think a lot of it stems from the fact that I'm grieving the parts of my life that I think I could have had. Young love just was not in the cards for me. Anyways, biggest of hugs to you and thank you for your endearing responses that make me feel like I was not alone in these same struggles!

LOVE IT. Your reactions are quite possibly the most endearing of the dozens I've seen, and I'm definitely gonna hit your Patreon for the full versions. I'm especially grateful for the work you've obviously put into the precise editing, so that you're never speaking over the iconic dialog moments (of which there are tons). EDITED to add: Most of us HS fans have watched the show several times. Most reactors don't manage to make us feel the same joy as when we watched it for the first time. But you absolutely have done that. And that's a real gift to us.

Welcome to the club Niall! I’m late to the game myself, having only discovered this show in February but OMG I am so all in! It absolutely WRECKED me! I’m literally Charlie but am trans and came out at 14. High school was HORRID for me. I also got pounced on by a Ben. I was so young and didn’t know what love really looked like and it sure wasn’t that. But I was so wrapped up in him that I was blind to all the red flags. I’m 39 now and still have never met my Nick Nelson. But yeah, this show really bubbled up all the trauma I forgot I was carrying from those years. I can’t wait for season two this august and have bought all the books! I’ve also discovered the world of Alternate Universe fan fictions!! There are soooo many good ones!! Rugby Sweater Weather has to be hands down my favorite! 💕🏳️⚧️🍂

Aww...you're tears at the beginning of ep.2 got *me* teary eyed. I love watching the reactions of queer youtubers because it gives me so much joy. It's interesting watching straight youtubers and I'm glad they're doing it but the queer reactions are precious to me. I've been begging my daughters to watch this show. Tomorrow's my birthday (56). I should tell them I want them to watch this for my birthday. The problem is, I still owe the eldest a viewing of "American Psycho" from two Christmases ago. We're going to see the Barbie movie. And I'm hoping for some karaoke which I havent done since before Covid.

I watch this, and reactions like this..and all I can do is think to myself, why do we let the world, and straight people make us feel this way..but I understand it cause I had the same experience, like why cant we just live our lives in peace, and have the same chance for happiness/unhappiness as everyone else without interference/judgement.

ok I just have to say this: as a 40 year-old bisexual woman who is also a poc, I can relate to how this show is probably making you feel. we had NOTHING like this when I was in high school, probably even less than you. Will and Grace. that was it. this show has done something to me that I've only recently begun to put into words. it's been able to heal that part of my teenage self that never felt quite enough. Alice Oseman has given us all a gift and even though I'm so happy this show exists, I'm slightly jealous that I didn't have this as a teen. ps. I'm subscribing to your patreon right now so I can watch the full lengths because I have to finish this journey with you RIGHT THE FUCK NOW lol ❤ happy pride! 🏳🌈💓💜💙 🏳🌈

Thank you for leaving such a kind comment and explaining your own story! I’m so happy this show exists too. It’s hard not to feel some sort of envy or upset at what could’ve been if we had something like this growing up, but also, at least we and young queer folk have the show now ❤️ that’s what truly matters!! Lmaooo, thanks so much for subscribing and joining the Patreon!! I hope my reaction to the final four episodes fill you with joy and don’t make you cry too much 😂😂❤️❤️

3:45 for teachers that are actually queer, at my school (that i know of) theres a math teacher, a physics teacher (i love her. sm), and i think a biology teacher? but i connected most with my arts history/culture/visual arts teacher (very artsy school) and a dutch teacher (dont have him anymore :( ). so if you ask me, queer kids _connect_ most with their arts and (native) language teachers. however, art kids in general are pretty queer, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This is like maybe my 10th video reaction to Heartstopper. That's how much I LOVE this beautiful show! I'm a 40 year old heterosexual woman who is obsessed with gay stories🤭. We definitely need more of these stories for representation and normalization. This show is absolutely amazing. And it cracks even the most "cool" people. I cried many times and I still do when I watch someone else breaking. The girls moment is awesome... perfection really. So so so well done! By the way you're the only reactor I've seen so far who commented on the Charlie's hair moment. It might appear like something "silly" but it tells a lot that in the scene before Tori was saying his hair was just the same as always but it's actually the first thing Nick notices about him. And that's the message: he notices because he's paying attention and he cares! A simple detail but I think it's quite important. The way Nick replies "yes" after Charlie asking him if he would kiss him gets to me every time 😭. And the way Charlie feels so overwhelmed with everything that's happening (finally kissing Nick which seemed impossible to him and also feeling like he ruined everything) is fricking heartbreaking! Argh! Off to watch your next video right away!!!❤❤🏳️🌈

OH MY GOD I LOVED THAT! I can't wait to see more of your Heartstopper reactions! As someone who is relatively young, watching Heartstopper has helped me a lot! Even though I don't like that everything was so predictable, that wasn't the first thought that came to my mind when I finished it (I watched the entire season in one night). I used to look up tutorials on how to behave, look and speak less gay (yes that exists). And I can't really describe it, It was just so weird experiencing support for things I wasn't comfortable on talking about with anyone else, and eventually that lead to me finding supportive friends. So in short Heartstopper literally changed my life haha

I was 19 when I watched the show when it came out 😭it definitely healed a part of me I didn’t know needed it. I was HEAVILY closeted in school and I was already bullied for certain things. So to be queer too?? In a religious school? Omg 😭it was such a nightmare And this show made me feel SO much. You crying the whole time is such a mood 🤣

My husband and I always make our tier lists of shows we watch together -- depending on how "good" they are -- but shows like Heartstopper and Wandavision made us create another category: IMPORTANT shows. And this one has a crown reigning over all the newer entries in this rank. Non-queer people will probably never viscerally understand how important this show is for many of us. Thanks for your cute reaction!

Hey it is totally cool and healthy to feel, cry, and love this. You know it and the great thing about this show is that for many LGBTQIA folks it unleashed some toxic trama from our past, we acknowledged it, and have been able to move forward more. This show is so affirming! Thanks for being true to yourself with video too! Hugs and I cried too!
