That being said, I'm playing the game mainly because of the story and not to get a challenge, especially since Ragnarok is right around the corner and I want to play it as fast as possible.

Great boat driving. ;P. If you want some background on Kratos (no spoiler, just essential bullet points that may enhance this experience) scroll down. Kratos was a warpig from Sparta. In the height of battle, he prayed to the war God Ares for powers and was granted. He was given the Blades of Chaos, which attached to his forearms and the remnants of which are covered by his bandages. If you notice his stark white skintone, that is literally the ashes of his former wife and daughter whom he unknowingly slaughtered in one of his raids. The ashes are permanently attached to him as a reminder of his monstrosity. And was given the moniker "Ghost of Sparta" due to the pale skin. Long story shorter, he slaughtered the Greek Pantheon to avenge his wife and daughter and for making him into a monster, ending with his seeming demise, and starting here. Hope that was helpful! Definitely utilize throwing the Leviathan axe in battle. It’s really useful. You just have to be quick about recalling it when you throw it.

Kratos is a Spartan, he was raised as a Spartan boy growing up a militaristic childhood. Due to his cursed nature, he wasn't expecting to become a father again. Now with the Mother gone, it's up to him and he only knows Spartan teachings. I think I read somewhere that Kratos in this game is over 1000 years old..

Nice! I found another let's player playing this amazing masterpiece of a game. You're definitely gonna be in for a wild, exciting and emotional ride with this game. Curious have you played the older God of War games? If you haven't, I hope you will play them as they will give you an understanding of Kratos' past since this game is both a reboot and sequel to the older games. Or you could watch a video that contains all the cutscenes from the older games since some of the summary videos while they do give you basic information, they don't really express the emotional and physical toll and weight it has had on Kratos. So I kind of hope you'll opt for that instead of maybe summary video. There is a 3 hour video that goes through all the cutscenes from the older games that are in chronological order from beginning to end so I wouldn't mind reaction video if you don't plan on playing the older games. Anywho I'm happy to see what you think of the game as you continue to play. Also BTW I appreciate you reading the journal entries that pop up as they will help give you some more information on things you might be confused about

Ahh come on, just about everyone went back and played all the GoW games to get ready for Ragnarok. I went back and replayed them when GoW 2018 was about to come out so I could prepare for the intensity that is Kratos. It's good that he has a sidekick now but Atreus is more than just a sidekick cause you feel bad for him then you're pissed at him and then you're proud of him, just like he was your own child 😂 lil bastard was being a lil shit in that one part lol. Anyway I hope they bring up Kratos's wife and daughter from the beginning because I kept needing to hear him get it off his shoulders, he has their damn ashes on his skin still! You can't not talk about it! No one says "why you so god damn pale my man?" Lol

In regards to Kratos's backstory, in my opinion I don't think it is necessary in order to enjoy this game. I've seen plenty of other Let's Players enjoy or even love this game without knowing what happens in the previous 6 games of this franchise. Does knowing Kratos's backstory help to enhance the story of this game though? Yes, it does. There are short videos that sum up Kratos's backstory in a few minutes, but nothing is as good as experiencing the old games for yourself. i do recommend watching Kratos' history even though it is not necessary. By doing so, u will be able to relate most of the dialogues about to happen especially during exploration.. and, u will be able to be more emotional in upcoming events.. Furthermore, u will be able to understand Kratos' behavior and not going to blame him for that. To make it simple, those who knows Kratos' history will have different perspective compared to those who does not. If u want a simpler version, i suggest to watch "God of War | The Story So Far... Everything You Need To Know (2018)" However, it would definitely serve u better to watch longer(more comprehensive) video. Therefore, i would also recommend (as suggested by others) "Full Story of Kratos (Ascension, Chains of Olympus, 1, Ghost of Sparta, 2 y 3)"

​@@Morten_Storvik Those who already experienced prequel games beforehand and those who watched the back story of Kratos before finishing God of War (2018) have never said anything about it being spoiling the story. in fact, after knowing the backstory of Kratos, they we're able to indulge in the story even more. go to channel "TheMirandalorian" to see her reaction towards Kratos's history and listen to what she has to say about that if she happen did not watch it.
