The OG 42 mm Tudor pelagos is an absolute beast and a beautiful watch In titanium, the bracelet is second to none.. I’m a muscular guy with 7.5 inch wrists and it just does everything perfectly.. for Me It’s the modern day submariner, you can’t go wrong. 👍🏼

Welcome back. Omega seamaster 300m all the way. Worth looking at older models - IMO the 41m previous gen model is great vfm.

Glad you are feeling better. I am a HUGE Panerai fan. Like you, I think a base model Luminor would be a great first piece. It has great history and is a very versatile piece. What I like also is the great selection of straps available that allows you to get a different look merely by changing the color. I think this piece will be a good fit for his stature, as you have described him. Good luck in the hunt.

Welcome back. Glad you're feeling better. I suggest Omega 300m, Speedmaster or Speedmaster 57. Tudor BB or Pelagos. I don't think a titanium (Bond) watch is a good for a one and only. More part of a collection IMO.

Glad you're better. How about Omega Aquaterra? Or, as an outsider, one of the sinn pilot chronographs, i think the reference is 103. Should be well within budget and can take a knock too
@AussieWristWatch
@AussieWristWatch Жыл бұрын
Love the Aquaterra, but I don't think it's for him. the Sinn could be good, as could a Doxa... I'm not sure that they are a recognisable brand for him, but hey - I might convert him to the watch lovers team.

1. Panerai, 2. IWC, 3. Tudor. That’s what I would recommend. All in-house movements and have the military history.

If he is that unsure I would Suggest a Tissot Gentleman (buy on bracelet, but get the leather deployant too) AND a Tudor Pelagos 42mm (used?). No mistakes can be made with either of those. Make sure you get a discount if new!! Tag have lost their way unfortunately, and Breitling, IWC, Panerai, etc. are mostly niche and probably a watch mistake waiting to happen! Save those for when he knows more about what he really likes!

Hey, forrget about Tudor ...41 is toooo small for a big ex military guy. TAG is a cheap supermarket brand you get your son for school graduation. Navitimer is great but 30m water resistance??? Can't even wash your hands with it. IWC big crown 46 is fine but it's the most uncomfortable watch to wear. That big crown scratches your wrist and clasp edges are sharp. My suggestion Panerai all the way. Any luminor 44 is a good start, but 47 is superb. Good luck l😊

By the way, I tried on that Breitling Endurance, maybe it looks good and I was prepared to love it but it felt cheap and plasticky for a luxury watch. I prefer the Aerospace line at Breitling, I have a vintage 40mm one that looks great and only cost 1200 usd.

Since he likes the Sedona SMP 300 the Tudor Black Bay S&G might fit into his taste. Put it on the two tone bracelet to dress it up a bit and on a nato or rubber for field work.

The black Tudor is not a bad choice, but of those you mentioned, the two tone black Seamaster is what he'd probably like most. Its adventurous, Omega is a great brand, its an iconic model, and the touch of gold is real class. Second hand of course. But he clearly wants a Rolex, so don't hold him back, its better, and cheaper, for him to stretch and get that one watch he really wants than build up a useless collection of second choices. An Explorer 2 would really suit him, its a beefy toolwatch. Or the AirKing. Both can be had close to retail. And he should go to a Rolex AD and register for Submariner or something he really likes, even if it takes 3 years he will get it sooner or later and he can enjoy something else in the meantime.
@AussieWristWatch

I actually think he really wants the Omega over the Rolex, but I have to take him to try a bunch of stuff on too. I agree re the Explorer II!

Nice to see you again; it's been an age. I would say 2 things to your nephew: 1 Go look at some. See what you can get from Swiss brands like Oris and Rado. 2 Sinn 104. 3 Used 42mm Pelagos. So that's 3 things then. And for the love of all humanity, not a chuffin Rolex. Cheers

haha I wish, he liked the 44mm Submersible eSteel. But I think he prefered the Tudor (for value) and the Omega... I also think deep down, he wants a Rolex!

@@AussieWristWatch their 44mm Sub is very nice, I like it a lot as well. Just a thought, but once he's bought whichever watch, it would be interesting to hear his deliberations across the models he looked at and why he chose what he did. Perhaps invite him onto the channel to do a reflection piece together, and a review of his final choice with you. Just a thought...

Don't mess around with an Omega SMP300! If he likes Rolex and is a bigger guy, an Omega Planet Ocean (43.5mm) would be the very best for him ; ) Also do not look at aluminium bezel Tudor Black Bays, which are nothing like a modern Rolex.

He is about to waste his money. If he wants Rolex for the branding then nothing will be a substitute- meaning eventually he will end up buying a Rolex. Just save up a little more now and get the name you want and skip the inevitable ‘journey’ Whilst the above is the advice he should follow - given his desire for the branding - I actually think it’s the most boring and ubiquitous choice, the choice of the non watch enthusiast. And given he sounds like he isn’t a massive enthusiast then that again makes sense. Buying the Rolex will likely save him many years of pain and financial ruin by becoming a watch but. Get the brand on wrist and move on with your life sort of thing. Good luck either way.
