I'm married to a Nigerian Brit, so I am around many Nigerians quite often, and I'm not saying all of them think it, because obviously that's not true. It's just that anytime I've met or conversed online with an African who bought into yt supremacist ideals even before I met my husband, it was usually Nigerians. I used to get told so often that Nigerians being here was a supreme benefit because we are lazy and can't get stuff done, and after literally years of this, I turned around and asked why Nigeria was a mess and why they were all here if they were blessed with all this intelligence and hard work. I became the problem then. And tbc I known it is not all, and I know every one of us has problematic people and I know most of the African diaspora is a mess due to colonialism and neoliberalism. This is purely anecdotal.

From many different countries and have been told at a young age from a Kenyan woman that I worked with that we “should still be slaves because we haven’t achieved anything and we’re not “educated “… all the while coming here and having an opportunity to do all those things because my elders fought for those opportunities!!

I really do not understand these diaspora wars. I am Nigerian but I respect African Americans because they are undoubtedly one of the strongest people on earth. The odds they had to overcome from slavery to Jim Crow to the Civil Rights Movement. These people have endured trauma like no other but still have made the most contribution to American politics and culture. This hatred towards them is foolish and needs to stop. All Black people are brothers regardless of where they come from. After all if your siblings travels to another continent do they cease from being your relative? The answer is no.

I've been saying this for years!!! Thank you. We are all equal, but if you want to call a spade and spade( pun intended ) let's go there. Black American are and still the strongest group of people around. Why do you think they spend all their time making rules or regulations to control or disparage us at each and every turn. Whitewashed history to downplay our contributions to this country. All done to keep that knee on our necks. The weak ones in our group fall for the banana in the tail pipe. But that happens in every culture. I'm not worried. As usual, we will thrive despite them, despite the weak ones amongst us. African need to realize they are told these thing about us for a reason and vice versa. United we win, divide we fall.

Exactly. Some of our fellow Africans are too arrogant, either because of their ignorance or blatant disregard of black history in America. I can not look at their history and have any disrespect for them. Nigerians, though they suffered from colonization, did not face such racism at the forefront for hundreds of years. African Americans faced it and still made their mark thru the many inventors, innovators, schools, celebrities, political leaders, etc. that they produced, even before most African nations entered independence. It is the ability to self-create that is true greatness. We cannot be priding ourselves as the best when we simply are taking advantage of opportunities that others fought to provide. Not to mention the overall foolishness in such behavior, especially if the aim is to look good for White America; they don't care about what type of Black person you are, so long as you're black.

I had a lesser melanated gentleman spark conflict with me in the comments of a tiktok where a man was being brutalised by the police. With Gerorge Floyd still fresh at thr time, I commented from a place that even if he was guilty of the charge, he didn't deserve what was happening to him. Then I launched into the problem being that the reason our police force behaves the way they do is because they are a one-off of the old slave patrols. Some Brody decided to challenge me on race and he eventually worked in that he couldn't be racist because his girlfriend was Black. Since her profile wasn't private, I checked her content and she is African. She lotsbof negative things to say about African Americans and the Civil Rights Movement which emboldened him to spew venom at Black people he encountered in States. PLOT TWIST; His girlfriend has never lived in the US and has made limited visits.

Thus having a black gf doesn't necessarily make a wp any less racist and white supremacist/nationalist/etc. Sometimes dating, marrying a POC means only that you have a thing for THAT particular person while still being racist as fk against or about their culture, skin color. @davidmorris8546 Speaking of violence, what about the cannibalism that's went on in both Asia and Africa? Yes, it's reported to have happened all over the world, but cannibalism is definitely STILL going on in Africa (and maybe small parts of Asia). But are you from the States or have you lived long and reeeeally gotten down into the history? Because you would know that Africans and Asians have hated us for centuries and it has a lot to do with slavery. We were seen as animals and cattle so Africans and Asians (especially in the areas that were colonized) were programmed to see us as such and to hate us. And at the same token, they--being Asians and Africans--were also hated and mistreated by the same people who programmed them and colonized them. Plus, we African Americans were also taught, BY THEM, to hate Asians and Africans. The violence that was BROUGHT into our community and then undoubtedly and stupidly maintained by us exacerbated the hate, I will say. But it wasn't what started it. It was INSTIGATION by certain parties. I don't know your age David Morris, but it's not too late to do some research and come out of that ignorance of yours. But can't fault you whether you were born here or not. Some people are genuinely ignorant and some people choose to stay ignorant, especially if it has nothing to do with them and their people.

The part about African Americans not having a history is incorrect. The enslavement was a part of the bigger story. They sold a whole other people group with the same skin color.

He also went on the occasional sexist rant or anti-immigration tirade. When people complained about him he was forced to take sone leave for a bit, before returning to a promotion with his own office. I can't help but feel this was partially to lessen the chance of him verbally attacking his coworkers anymore, but it still feels a bit weird. We have similar issues within the Deaf Community. Part of it is language and part of it is elitism. This causes such a great divide among ourselves. Rather than embracing someone's success, we tear it down. We use crab theory to point that out. American sign language has been around for centuries, what deaf people forget is that there were sign language in America before Laurent Clerc came from France and taught Gallaudet which gave birth to American Sign Language. Prior to that, black deaf had their own grassroot sign language. Deaf families had their own grassroot sign language, and of course, the native Americans had their own grassroot sign language. Since deaf people are outnumbered by hearing people with English being the dominant language in this country, there is an air of elitism, if you are good with English- you are considered "better" which in my opinion is the worse way to guage what a true deaf person is. I have a masters, good at speaking English but I grew up oral and learned ASL at Gally. My husband attended to the school for the deaf, uses ASL as his primary language and has an AA degree. To me, he is a very smart man and very well liked/respected in our deaf community. No one is more deaf than the other. Play stupid games and win stupid prizes.

So is it internalised racism and or even colourism/ 'reverse colourism' for a black individual to disqualify another black individual for not being black enough in relation to national heritage and not even actual skin tone or fricking sedo-race-genetics? That joker is 100% a literal fricking joker. The level of unpacking needed is too much, and that's without even discussing Godfrey's linguistic imperialism complex. Some comedians like exposes societal discord, but they do that on purpose. Godfrey is just a bigot.

Make no mistake, the diaspora war is but a single battle in the larger constant tribal war going on in Africa. Black Africans from one tribe always almost see themselves as superior to Africans from another tribe (This is why the continent never really progresses). So, when they cross over the Atlantic, they bring that same mindset and continue the perpetual beef with the local FBAs.

Has Godfrey had a DNA test to,prove his father is his father? Because a college professor I had once let us debate if a newborn baby should be given the mother or father’s surname. She let us go for awhile then threw her two cents in and said this: we should all take our mother’s surname because we ALWAYS know exactly who our mother is because the baby came from her, but we don’t really truly know who our father is because we can never be sure who fathered us without a more extensive test. The room half full of young men and half full of young women erupted into squeals of laughter from the females and roars of anger from the males who were trying to spout their mother’s virtues…🤣 Has Godfrey had a DNA test to prove his Dad is his 100% Nigerian dad? 0:22 I am so glad you said something,as this is important to speak about. I remember seeing a similar video, where people of color were making fun of the way other people of color speak.[ I'm not black and of course because of my name on here, they assume I'm 100% white when I mix with Peruvian... But even if I was 100% white, it doesn't change the fact that saying that about your own people is cruel. ] They told me to mind my own business, and that black people like that were just making other black people look stupid.... I just feel like when people say that about the way anybody speaks, it takes out of context how that language ended up sounding that way. Most of the time too it is rooted in racism/internalized racism, classism or xenophobia... and is always rooted in some sort of bigotry or oppression. I will never understand when a minority attacks itself. I'm queer, and I see it happen all the time with the queer community too.Where some members of it will put down other members in an attempt to make themselves look better.😢 It's depressing to watch, and this is also how culture's are assimilated. Which in turn causes us to loose knowledge. Edit: it also ignores all the trauma, and pain that often causes dialects to be used. It is normally because a group is rejected, or isolated through oppression. They then come up with their own slang, terminology and way of speaking. It reminds me of how in the queer community I see a higher amount, certain ways of speaking, terminology and slang. If humans weren't so hateful to each other, we would have a culture that all of us would be a part of. Where we would all share these things together, but we're just not at that point yet. 😢 Regardless, all these unique cultures, and subculture that exists are what makes humanity so beautiful. I know I'm being a tad bit cliche in that sentence, but it is true.

Now, I'm coming at this as a dumb whitey, but could it be tribalism? In group vs out group is pretty strong no matter what color you are and in a place where the majority is different shades of the same color, you might need something else to identify in group and out group, you know? When the European immigrants were coming to the US in groups, they were looked down on too. So, the place you were from became the reason you were lesser. Could be similar with Africans too.

I was once seeing a Nigerian girl and she told me that I was white and not black (I'm half white British and half jamaican) because you're the same race as your dad and my dad happens to be the white one out of my parents. Even though I'm fairly light, I have clearly black features, was raised a lot more in the black community and I've experienced anti black racism for most of my life here in the UK. I basically had to break down her arbitrary "your dad is white so you are too regardless of other factors" was minimising the fact that my whole life here in the UK, I've been black and if I told someone I was white they'd look at me funny because there's clearly a lot of none-white in me and I'd lived my whole life as a black person. She'd moved to the UK when she was in her late teens (were both 21) and she's only been black for a few years because over in Nigeria, you're not a black person, you're just a person (if that makes sense) but in the ike I've been seen as black before a person for my whole life and to minimise that experience by calling me white doesn't make sense. With this, I'm on no way saying that I'm more black than her but I'm saying that drawing these lines in the sand between other black people when the concept of "black people" was created to refer to basically anyone with even "one drop" of African heritage (diasphoric or not) to otherise us to white people. This might be fully anecdotal but it also seems to me to be somewhat commonly accepted among the Nigerian immigrants I know that white father = white and black father = black (if they were born or raised here than this notion goes away, as far as I've seen).
