Maisie is keen to be part of the sewing process! The sleeve issue five minutes in showcases the importance of basting and test fitting - imagine not realizing that the shape is off until after finishing the seams! [giggles] The secret to pressing: leave it in a box for 30 years. The struggle with the horsehair braid gives me an idea, not for this specific dress but in general: using a roll of horsehair braid to puff up a shoulder. Like, a little tube of the braid, along the length of the strap like a shoulder pad, so the sleeve has a round structure holding the puff up but the pokey ends are sealed in, and the horsehair braid holds itself up rather than weighing itself down. The collar ruffle could be asymmetrical? But because it's not an extreme angle, it's hard to tell whether that's on purpose on the doll or a side-effect of rushed mass manufacturing.

9:36 the thread is to help ease the braid into curved hems. You pull the thread up every so often to help it lay smoother.

It's looking so good! I had the sticky issue a while back and it was because the spray paint couldn't cure because I was trying to paint vinyl. The fix was using a primer first that said it was for use with vinyl.

Yes! As soon as you started talking about sleeve volume I yelled " Wire it! "

Me too! I kept saying, "just use milliner wire."

If you add a bit of twill tape on the shoulders to make a very narrow drawstring and pull it up slightly it should help the pulling away from the neck, or add shoulder stays that go around the bra strap that could work too. I’d also add more tulle in a shaped ruffle between the puff and the sleeve. Those puffs look great.

Suggestion: invest in a hand mirror so you can hold it up in front of you as you stand with your back to the big mirror. It’s about the only way to see your back properly. Maisie is so lovely 😻 Cats are an almost endless source of entertainment 😀

I have one, but I honestly find that a phone works better, because then I can take a picture and look at it easier.

The sleeves are looking ridiculous in a great way! Your using millinery wire reminds me of making ballroom dance dresses, where I've used fishing line to make a similar effect. Thinner line makes a softer edge whereas thicker makes it more defined; the line comes coiled, which if used as-is makes a fairly tight curl, but you can un-coil it with hot water to make it softer/coil it up further into a tighter spiral to make even more of a spiral pattern! Horsehair braid is more commonly used for a softer fluffy hem and especially on long dresses, but fishing line makes for a fun effect.

While it may be ridiculous, it's also happy, shiny, and fun. And we need this kind of happy right now. This outfit is turning out so cute.

You can get a circular loop of horsehair under the poof, if you set it slightly forward it can work toward flattening the back.

I love, love, love, the bodice. Those sleeves are insane, you practically need an engineering degree to make them work..The white stitching on the horse hair braid is for gathering.

I'm sure it's probably too late, but a wire frame painted pink would give you the support you want for the sleeves. Like fairy wings.

The sleeves look like you have your own set of butterfly wings. Which is very fitting.

I’m halfway through the video and I know you’ll come up with a fabulous solution without any advice from me thank you very much… I just wonder if there’s a way to do a crescent of clear plastic that sticks straight out. If it’s clear plastic it’s not visible but would be rigid enough perhaps to give you what you need. Or maybe you’ll wire it. I don’t know I’m intrigued.

You could do a live stream, if your camera is different from your phone. Watch it on your phone (or your partners) and that way you can see in real time and then remove the video.
