This was a really good video. You’re very smart. I have noticed people’s learned helplessness recently. It’s hard for me to understand because I’m fiercely independent and that’s always made me into a doer, a tryer, a learner. So it’s hard for me to wrap my head around not feeling like you can learn stuff and get it done. It sounds frustrating to live that way.

I've had zero sales on Etsy this year. My average was about 40-50 sales/year. I let listings expire. Times are tough. I will do a Christmas craft fair at the end of November, just to cover some expenses. Times are tough and no amount of corporate talk can change that.

Same….i've had zero sales for 1 year and 4 months to date. Feeling depressed:(

I first want to wish you well on your new ideas and endeavors. Next, your "rambling and ranty stuff" helps keep me sane because it's real. Sure, it's edited, which is a ton of work. Last, take care of yourself - I appreciate all you've done.

I bet these people who say etsy take all their money are the ones who price their stuff super low to try and beat everyone else. You can only blame yourself if you price low and then pay etsy out of pocket because you didn't earn a profit
@ecouturehandmades5166Ай бұрын
Exactly 💯% It's better to be the most expensive or at least in the top 10%. What you pay equals its QUALITY in the mindset of a buyer.

WRONG! You just don't know Etsy's slick tricks when it comes to fees.

I'm in the process of setting up a business. I will not be using Etsy to sell my main products. I will be using it to route my traffic that I want to other websites. Until Etsy makes better choices, high selling products WILL NOT route through Etsy. They will lose sales while I get additional traffic through their website. If they can provide an ethnically sustainable business model. Then they'll have my full business. Otherwise sucks for them. There are ways around Etsy that doesn't resort everyone becoming AI image sellers and drop sellers, or people who outsource ALL the work so nothing is truly handmade.
@TypeNineStudio2 ай бұрын
Watch, they'll start booting people for trying to drive traffic elsewhere 🤫🙈 For years the seller handbook has quietly encouraged it, but I would not be surprised at all if it's punished sometime in the near future.

I'm totally in the same boat but worse. We decided to sell our house and use the profits to add on to my parents house with a small easier to move around addition. It was suppose to take a few months bc Im an idiot and though it wouldnt take long to sell the house, build it, and move in. Duh. It took 2.5 years!!!!! I was on vacation mode forever and I've just come back and Etsy has changed so much! 😮 I use to make youtube videos but I never made sales from them. Just had other creators show up.

I have watched you for over a year and love your content, Abby. As a new Etsy seller (23 months selling Vintage), I relied on your content to get me up and running, so I am bummed that you plan to discontinue the Etsy route. But I understand. Running a small business is hard. I have a brick and mortar and expanded to Etsy because of sales problems. Even a close friend who runs her own pizza shop is suffering from low sales. So business is tough all around. Then... spread yourself too thin with making merch, vlogging, social media posting, etc. (not to mention maintaining your health and running a household) and you will burn out. Like you, I'm married but don't have kids. My business is the thing I do 24/7. So, I understand where you are. Know that you are not alone. I hope you don't disappear altogether. Instead, bring things down a notch, for yourself, in terms of tasks. Only do the absolute necessary things to run your business. Only accomplish like 10-15 things in a week. Take time to regroup, recharge, and re-energize by simplifying. That's what I do when I'm at the "ah, fuck everything stage". Instead of chucking it all, I put on my jammies, eat PBJ sammies, and watch cartoons or documentaries. Sounds silly, but it works. You'd be surprised how quickly you bounce back. It's kind of like a cleanse from everything, just to start fresh. I will continue to watch when you put out new content. You are refreshing to watch in a You Tube sea full of bullshit Etsy gurus. Your down to earth approach, honest portrayal of what it takes to run a business, and experience and knowledge of running a small business makes me feel very comfortable watching you. I know I can rely on your information without being set up to purchase a class or some other clickbait stupidity. I wish you nothing but the best. Know there is an army of entrepreneurial women who will understand and support you. Do your thing girl, we'll be here for you.
@TypeNineStudio2 ай бұрын
Thank you so much! It is really nice to hear I actually fulfilled my purpose. And I agree, really need to step back and regroup. At one point I was doing that quarterly, don't know what happened there lol. Maybe I will keep the vlogging aspect somehow, but I'll still be here either way!

I’m a bit confused by the the new categories. If I make a bracelet where I have made the clasp using metal smithing but not made the beads is that handmade or constructed with components? What if I use a clasp I have bought? Is that still handmade? As far as watermarking goes. I saw a video saying Google doesn’t like watermarked pictures? I was interested in your putting a link to your shoplift in your Etsy listing. Is that allowed? Useful to know! My sales on all platforms have tanked. Silver-smiths who have been selling for decades are giving up because nobody is buying anything either because they all just buy crap from Temu now or they have no money. BTW do you have Superthanks? I can’t see it and would like to pay you for your content!

I left etsy bc they let an insane customer make fun of my disability in a review and etsy refused to take it down and then refunded that customer from my bank account even though I showed in our messages that customer was lying and trying to get things for free. I had been with etsy off and on since they started and the last 10 yrs have been like an abusive relationship. I supported myself solely with my etsy income. Its not worth it to me to be in a place that doesnt support me, I moved to go imagine and I love it bc its like old school etsy. I will never go back. I dont have my entire income back yet bc I have to drive my own traffic now but its so worth it not to feel emotionally abused. Never again.

do you have an email list? Are you using it? Have you tried copying your listings and to see if you can get them seen again?
@SelfcareKaren2 ай бұрын
LOL 😂 I am a Karen! But not a complainer! Interesting what you say about YT monetisation- I thought once you hit the criteria (1000+ subscribers and 4000 watch hours in past 365 days - this was what I had to meet back in 2022) you were set and did not have to worry about it anymore 😳😬🤪
@TypeNineStudio2 ай бұрын
I thought you had to maintain 4000 watch hours for a 12-month rolling period or you lose it. Not quite sure how quick they are to kick you out. I also could be making that up. I'm real close thanks to this vid though 😅

Please don't shoot the messenger, I mean this to have your back. You can't direct Etsy customers to your own site via listing descriptions or messages. Business card/etc inside the order is allowed but the others are classed as fee avoidance & against their TOU. I think you can link to your site in either About section or Shop Announcement but I'm not sure which as I don't have my own...yet (?) haha

I have been trying to find an answer to this question. I am selling magnetic bookmarks and want to take a picture of the bookmark on a page in a book such as a novel or anything with print. The problem is I'm wondering if that is a copyright issue, and if so, is there any work around or suggestions anyone might have. The bookmark looks really good on a book page. I don't know what to do :(
@TypeNineStudio2 ай бұрын
I don't think it's a copyright issue, at least as far as I'm aware since it's a prop. Maybe use something old like Shakespeare to be on the safe side lol
