@@mik3191 I think what he's trying to say is "With each passing day, more of our fan/player base are getting older, which means slowly but surely, they'll all start to drop games like hot potato because in addition to being a gamer, we also have a life outside the game. Hence, shorter games with worse quality were made so older gamers are more likely to try it and be able to complete it at least given the busy schedule of an adult with either one or more of the following: a career pathway to focus on, an internship/job, taking care of a family, etc. As well as replay/remaster it again (if they really like it) in their spare time." On the other end of the spectrum, we have young gamers who are just playing their first game and would then proceed to call it trash or not as good because the intended audience for those 'shorter games made in exchange for worse graphics" wasn't them until "they" (the young gamers) grow older and get nostalgia during their adult lives with more responsibilities. Hope this helps.

I realized a few years ago I prefer short games with a lot of heart than 100+ hours open-worlds that don't give me anything except "add +2 to the stack of ressources you never use anyway and a few levels maybe". I enjoyed a bunch of really small games (a few hours) and I was like "wow... it's been years I didn't felt so much emotion". To fuel the number of hours or the "endless/infinite" experience, it basically needs to make the games as deep as a puddle. I saw the whole "I want shorter games with worse graphics made by people who are paid more to do less" and it basically was it. Do we need textures so precised they are looking almost realistic ? No, we need good art direction. Do we need 100+ hour games for 60-70 bucks ? No, we need games that we love so much we want to play them again I'm more excited for indie games than I am for AAA because I know they put all their soul and heart in those games, that they mean something to the people who create them, more than "a bunch of executives said we need to add that for the next game to make more money" At the point I am in my life, I can play all the games I want, yet I realize I care less and less about games I need to put hundreds of hours into because I can pay for other games, in contrast to when I was young and could only play a few games per year if I was lucky. And great games still exists, but maybe not where they used to be produced. Outer Wilds is a blast, Hollow Knight is fantastic, Inscryption is incredible. I'm more excited this year about Turnip Boy 2 than most AAA games releasing with huge ads and big worlds!

I think this is why I started favoring indie titles a lot more. The cost is normally 20-50% less than a big title, you get what you pay for and you're left with a deeper story and a finished game. No freaking forever game. Now my favorite from rags to riches games is No Man's Sky. I mean it's been almost 7 years and they're still pumping out free updates. The team is amazing. How can they do it while bigger budget companies can't?

I feel like a huge problem with competetive multiplayer games is that people will immediately discover every exploit/meta. Literally day one of release everyone is running around abusing exploits or using the same over powered gear. If you aren't playing the game exactly how everyone else is playing it then you're at a major disadvantage.

I feel the same man, I had the same gripe every time a new COD would come out. People can't go a minute without using the best weapons, best perks, best attachments. The worst part is, you can't even blame people for min maxing like that because they don't want to be at a disadvantage either.

Halo Reach came out in 2010. That was 13 years ago. Inflation is raging worse than it ever has before, so a $60 game in 2010 should now cost about $84, not $60. That's a 40% price increase. Never mind the fact that development costs for a AAA game are higher than ever. They need to cut costs somewhere in order to release games at that $60 price point. Gamers are cheap. They complain when a company tries to charge more than $60 for a game. This is the end result of that. I fail to see why anyone deserves anything other than exactly what they're getting.

I often think about the early to mid 2000s PS2, GameCube, XBOX era. The industry was so full of creativity and freedom at the time, and so many classics because of it. Developers were able to take risk back then that resulted in some if the greatest games of all time being made. Def Jam vendetta started out as a crazy idea that two dudes who loved hip hop thought up and that along with its sequel became a classic. Something like that can just never happen again in gaming and it’s so sad man. Biggest thing to me that’s apparent here is that developers used to be run by gamers. Now it’s just run by corporate suits who literally only care about money over quality. I love gaming, but I’m glad to know I’m not the only one getting sick of what it’s becoming. Thank god we got to live through a time where creativity could thrive to give us the best memories and experiences through the games we got back then.

This is exactly why I feel like another industry-level crash on par with '83 is just on the horizon. With the overwhelming surge of high-profile AAA failures over the past couple of years, particularly in the live-service sector, I feel like the gaming community's patience is finally starting to run out. The current AAA business model simply isn't sustainable, and it's not going to take much longer for the house of cards to finally collapse on itself. Here's to hoping that the indie scene leads us out of it into a new gaming renaissance, the same way Japanese developers led us out of the first crash.

Now these entities can throw money around willynilly, with seemingly little repercussions. @@crispybatman480 I guess I'm just the type of guy that can look past graphics. I thought it was silly at first, but by about 10 minutes in I didn't care and I was having a blast. The Roblox-y look does lend it some charm and lets the players not take it *too* seriously and just have fun. It does also let even potato-PC players get into the game, something that modern AAA games (especially Battlefield) fail to accommodate, and still have the best parts of those games and some features that it even beats out 2042 on (destruction, squad management, VOIP and text chat, etc.).

it makes me sad it took 2042 2 yeas to actually be fun and even then the game's map design is so.. odd. There never is any kind of "line" where you can logically guess enemies come from. Hard to explain but in BF3-4-1 there were these lines you'd draw from points taken and guess where the enemy would come from. Not the case in 2042.
@frxn211

Worst part is the game's gunplay and feel is actually SO much better now. But this one thing makes the game experience of any kind just shitty. The maps and environments are just as clunky as every other BF (I mean, they feel like virtual battlegrounds rather than actual environments. But that's fine considering the size and scope of all of them) but the whole movement and map design ends up frustrating me so much

"It's all soul-less shit" that is exactly what is causing the "burnout" feeling. No one would be feeling this way if these games were releasing day 1 in working condition, full of content and great content at that! It is strange as I too have reached the stage where I have slowly uninstalled the tired ol' rotation of multiplayer games from my system and have instead retreated to the singleplayer games of old. Not sure if the turnaround is coming soon but until then in the words of Muta "I am out" ✌

The hippopotamus or hippo (/ˌhɪpəˈpɒtəməs/ HIP-ə-POT-ə-məs; pl: hippos, hippopotamuses or hippopotami; Hippopotamus amphibius), further qualified as the common hippopotamus, Nile hippopotamus, or river hippopotamus, is a large semiaquatic mammal native to sub-Saharan Africa. It is one of only two extant species in the family Hippopotamidae, the other being the pygmy hippopotamus (Choeropsis liberiensis or Hexaprotodon liberiensis). Its name comes from the ancient Greek for "river horse" (ἱπποπόταμος). After elephants and rhinos, the hippopotamus is the next largest land mammal. It is also the largest extant land artiodactyl. Despite their physical resemblance to pigs and other terrestrial even-toed ungulates, the closest living relatives of the hippopotamids are cetaceans (whales, dolphins, porpoises, etc.), from which they diverged about 55 million years ago. Hippos are recognisable for their barrel-shaped torsos, wide-opening mouths with large canine tusks, nearly hairless bodies, pillar-like legs, and large size: adults average 1,500 kg (3,300 lb) for bulls (males) and 1,300 kg (2,900 lb) for cows (females). Despite its stocky shape and short legs, it is capable of running 30 km/h (19 mph) over short distances. Hippos inhabit rivers, lakes, and mangrove swamps. Territorial bulls each preside over a stretch of water and a group of five to thirty cows and calves. Mating and birth both occur in the water. During the day, hippos remain cool by staying in water or mud, emerging at dusk to graze on grasses. While hippos rest near each other in the water, grazing is a solitary activity and hippos typically do not display territorial behaviour on land. Hippos are among the most dangerous animals in the world due to their aggressive and unpredictable nature. They are threatened by habitat loss and poaching for their meat and ivory (canine teeth).

I was talking to a friend about where this could have possibly stemmed from and I think I came to a conversation that no one will be willing to have, but, Black Ops 2. The first AAA I can think of to release core content after the release of the core game in form of the Peacekeeper, which was SUCH a strong weapon that you either bought the DLC it was in or you lost. At least for DLC Maps you just didn't get to play on an ok map but for this weapon was just in your kit now

That's why I like games like Deep Rock Galactic: any seasonal cosmetics that you don't get in a season go into the loot pool so you can get the items from equipment crates, lost equipment, or machine events. Also, the multiplayer is basically drop in and drop out and you're always guaranteed to get people dropping into your game if you host :D

Muta, this is also why indie games are getting more and more famous. AAA games are going down. There's so many new youtube channels that try out everything from bad to really great indie games. The content that these indie games have is also unique and amazing. You should start trying them out. Most of these indie games have shorter play times, anywhere from 30-100 hours and enjoyable.

I don’t mind they make multiplayer games and I don’t have a problem with people enjoying them but it seems that more and more companies are pushing the live service and always online games. I love gaming. I’ve been gaming for 33 years. I remember the game I was playing when my wife and I were on the phone when we decided on our first date. I just hope they don’t forget about single player and couch co op. I love games I can play with my kids. It’s hard to find couch co op games these days. All the map packs and dlc is just getting out of hand.
