Another vote of appreciation for sharing! I'm so grateful when talented people are willing to share their tips and tricks... whether the subject is the garden, beauty, health or anything else. I never had a chance to learn about hair and make up and had no clue there was a difference between acrylic and press on nails. I always wondered how women could keep their nails beautiful through gardening, cooking, cleaning, and life. It feels like just breathing makes my polish chip off and everything else damages my nails badly. As someone else with brittle nails, I think I'll give these a try. Thank you! ❤

@@meggrowsplants I began to ask my endocrinologist to add ferritin to my blood tests that I get every 2-3 months, and my iron was so super low. I tried taking iron supplements and nothing ever improved. I wasn't absorbing anything, including my thyroid replacement hormone, which my doctor kept increasing. I was on a PPI for heartburn and oral birth control pills, both of which can cause absorption problems, so I slowly got off of both of them. My thyroid hormone absorption skyrocketed and I was able to get back down to taking almost no thyroid hormone. Then I stopped eating gluten and dairy, and started taking iron again. My nails and hair, which my doctor had told me to just give up on, bounced back 😭 my thumb nails are still wavy, but all my other ones are amazing.

I never even thought anything about your nails. The only time I've ever questioned (to myself) a gardener's nails is when I saw someone with 3" nails. That would make it hard working in the garden. When I was young and first painted my nails, people always thought I had fake nails. I hated that and it made me adverse to painting them ever since but now more so since it would be hard to maintain as a gardener.

Some people are so dumb and single-faceted. I have very little nails and sometimes all of the ones in the package are too big. I use regular nail clippers to clip the sides in to make them more narrow so they will fit my nails. Also, I have gotten ones that I liked but were longer than I liked. You can clip them to whatever shape and size you want just like regular nails. Also also I use tweezers to hold the nails so I can paint the glue on them and place them on my nails without having my fingers in the way to see if they're straight.

Thank you for sharing this!! I’d been wanting to get press on nails but I was worried they wouldn’t work well with gardening. I can’t wait to try!

I might have to try the press ons that you have to glue again! I use the ones that are pre glued and I definitely can’t be as aggressive with them as you were with yours because the glue stays gummy without hardening. I’d tried your style before but I might not have been pressing them in long enough.

Oh Meg, why do women have to justify everything we do??? I LOVE getting my nails done and have to apologize to my nail lady about all the dirt and stains on my nails but when I bring her some lima beans or tomatoes or onions she totally gets it. I don't use gloves because they just get lost in my garden but having nice nails makes me so happy, too!! Thanks for shining the shimmery light on this aspect of gardening. Real women have dirt under our nails :)
