hahahah! I knew it was coming. Make sure to get your grade 1" below your side walks. While you are at it amend your soil to help with that clay soil you have, mix in some sand, compost and top soil. Going to have to use a tiller. Also spring in the NW is the perfect time to renovate, don't listen to all those other 'youtubers' across the country. In their area they hit soil temp of 70F in may, in the NW we don't hit 70F until late july. As long as you keep it moist spring in the NW is the ideal time to renovate. Renovated my back yard at the end of may last year.
@PacificNorthwestLawns3 жыл бұрын
I'm probably going to be adding some sand and compost but I'm not tilling anything. That opens another can of worms I'm not willing to do. I agree we can get away with doing this in the spring simply because we don't get as hot. 😎

Second year on my 7500 sq ft SE Michigan TTTF lawn. Just starting to get something established when suddenly I realize I've got probably 30% of my turf is Triv. Nuking it is not an option as I don't want glyphosate getting into my well. I'm in a country neighborhood where even with my Triv problem I have one of the best looking lawns, so I may be living with it for a while. Good luck with your renovation!

@@PacificNorthwestLawns well it looks like you’re doing the reno right at least, when all else fails take the nuclear option. Go big or go home! @PacificNorthwestLawns2 жыл бұрын
Fortunately my lawn isn't directly connected to any neighbors 😁
@frankwoodbery24733 жыл бұрын
I understand the only reason to grow Poa Trivialis is that it needs almost no sunlight. Only use as a supplement for conventional blends of rye and fescue for the small parts of a lawn in deep shade where little grows well.

I would never intentionally plant this stuff myself. I'd rather look at a bare spot.😁

I'm dealing with POA myself. A few weeks ago I cut out what I saw and sodden the spots, but a ton more had popped up...its so aggravating.
@PacificNorthwestLawns3 жыл бұрын
Because it spreads via stolons you should try and cut out about a foot or so further than you can see it. I considered sod cutting everything out but the cost was a bit out of my budget.

I am dealing with the Triv this year myself. There is so much showing up now. I thought is was from my lawn reno last Fall because its all over the lawn and thought it was just the new grass being a lighter color coming out of the Winter. But looking at it close up it has a shiny texture and is definitely a lime color. If it was just a few spots I would have dug them out and re sod those areas. It is through out the whole lawn so might have to tear the whole lawn up like in 08 and put down new sod. 13 years ago I was physically able to do it but not sure I am up to the challenge this time. :(

Amazingly there wasn't hardly any in the yard this year. I think getting the pH up, limbing the big maple back and using Air8 to help with the drainage had a big impact. I'm hoping fixing the grade will further help.

I feel your pain.... I'm in Vancouver, WA and my front yard has been hit hard with POA, debating on if I should just hold off until fall and put down some Prodiamine and focus on next spring, or if I should kill it now and reseed while the temps are still workable... What's your thoughts?? Thanks for your input.
@PacificNorthwestLawns3 жыл бұрын
That would really depend on what Poa you're dealing with. Poa Annua is handled much differently than Poa Trivialis. I'll be doing a video on Poa Annua very soon. I'm not far from you. I'm in Battle Ground.
