@@PacificNorthwestLawns Oh that’s sweet man. I was so surprised at how many lawns in the area that have irrigation installed actually went into some serious dormancy. Their sprinklers ran every morning too. About 6 weeks ago I changed to only watering early morning twice a week, 1/2” of water each time. Without guidance from you guys I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t have learned about watering shallow vs deep.

We don't get two 100 degree days in a decade in Seattle, let alone the three in a row that we had during that stretch of heat. My lawn looks like a field of hay stubble. Looks like a second year in a row of fall lawn renovation. Won't have to bother you for support as I did last year Nate - you taught me a ton and I took notes. Be well and persevere (Hi Brutus!)

Those are some crazy #'s. I have never experienced heat like that other than in a sauna. It is a never ending battle. I have come to the realization that cool season grasses are just that and even when established, weather conditions have the final say. Spring looks good when conditions are favorable. Summer are for warm season grasses and we do the best we can and then Fall is when the lawn really shines. After last years Fall reno my lawn looked good right up to Christmas. Just keep on plugging away and enjoy the good times and deal with the not so good times :)

I feel your pain brother. I am having the same issue identifying whether or not I have fungus from having to water so much during the heat wave. We’ve also been in the 90s more often than not here in Canby. I did the JB insta lawn PRG sod in April, so my turf is still just a baby. I have 2 dogs and some shady spots so I had to put some seed down a couple a few weeks ago… let’s just say the heat wave won that battle. All around great video. I’m really new to lawn care but I’m learning a lot from you, Allyn and JP videos and products. I had a similar problem in my prg renovation. Did a fall reno and everything looked great. Was only watering twice a week. Then in April we had some 95+ plus days in Northern California. I was working out of town on the coast and didn’t feel the heat so I didn’t increase the water. Came home and some spots looked like yours. No matter what I did they died. The only plus is that the grass that did survive, handled this last two week heatwave of 105+ great. My prg was a mix so I just chalked it up to a weak seed strain in the mix and maybe a lousy soil in that area that only allowed shallow roots. I have dead spots all summer now. Now I have todo spot renovations this fall again and I know where I need to focus on the soil, if that is a part of the problem. it’s just grass, so I just need time and patience and it’ll grow back. That’s the lie I tell myself.

I'm still pro spring/summer renovation just because the grass germinates so quickly and efficiently. Lawn problems are easy to solve (weeds/disease) and based on my couple experiences I prefer solving the weed issues than having a thin yard coming into the following spring from a fall reno. Also an easy solution, but yea just some patience.

This is why I can't be a farmer, I take things too personally. Relax, your grass will be fine, if not...more content for us to watch. :) When I saw the photos, it looked like fungus. Also, did you step onto anything prior to mowing? May have gotten something on the grass while mowing. Your lawn still looks great.

It's definitely gonna make for some content. It may have been a fungus. Once I applied the fungicide it stopped spreading however I think the damage is done and I'm going to have to reseed with something. I'm confident I didn't track anything into the lawn or it would be everywhere.
