As someone with family members on the spectrum, I have to applaud how Luke approached the answer to the merch message about microtransactions. I don't know if he has any family who is also on the spectrum, but it feels like he knows the more gentle and effective ways to get through to these people in our lives. The idea about playing a different game with them together is spot on.

Tbf I think he was talking in general how he would treat anyone. This kind of thing is hard to help someone with. Personally I don’t think micro transactions effect people on the spectrum differently, but they can be more susceptible to it. “You can’t force your help on someone” applies to everyone and is important to learn.

I was watching when my Etsy shop was showed for the screwdriver cases. My jaw dropped to say the least. I have always loved this community so much and I started this all as a hobby and been some of the most fun and challenging time learning how to run a small business. From starting from nothing, learning basics of marketing such as SEO, planning material supply demand and having to learn to deal with a few cases of supply shortages from my material supplies… simply put, a wild ride. I cannot express enough how amazing seeing all the hard work and passion I have poured into my hobby show up. While I make a point to not advertise on LTT forums, I cannot thank you all enough for this. Really a life event that I’ll always remember of Papa Linus seeing something I did. 🙏 Truly thank you and the community ❤

I think Linus was talking about my Reddit post lol, I believe my design was one of the first, mine is the altoids tin version. I posted my STLs as public domain on the subreddit expecting to just get reddit points, and then only later set up an etsy shop on a whim because people wanted them and I had spare materials. I had much the same experience, it was fun to do, and awesome to see people enjoy it, but not exactly an amazing business. and having to figure out EFTPS and making my first payment was not the most fun thing in the world 😅

@@machintrucGaming I designed the altoids tin bit case which I think was one of the first bit cases, I released my STLs for free in December 2022 and posted it on the subreddit, then enough people wanted them I decided to try making an etsy store. A day or two later, they posted my reddit post on their Facebook which sold quite a few of them. But rest assured, doing an etsy store selling accessories for an expensive internet screwdriver is not a very good way to shamelessly cash in, it's definitely more of a labor of love 😃

Linus, I'm a data center technician with Microsoft and I haven't heard of data centers that throw servers away without troubleshooting. It might exist but it's also likely that the person who told you that misunderstood. Some data centers loan out server space and when they do that you don't have spare DIMMs or storage devices so you pull the server out and ship it to a repair station.

My problem with upscaling is, that it kind of works quite well in 1440p and above. But it doesn't work really well in 1080p. The growth in performance of entry cards for players in 1080p is way too low and AI, upscaling and so on can not compensate it.

Especially their take on the clearly different versions. Luke clearly stated that the version they were using is different than the one that would be released and was demonstrated. Even if Linus and Dan were just trying to piss off Luke, first, they went too far and actually pissed him off instead of just bantering, second, they were against clearing up their words for something so obvious. Linus goes on to say that even though it isn't the same as the one mentioned in the article, they may talk about Autopilot preview cause Microsoft released it. However, what he speaks of now clearly is not reflective and comparable of what is explained in the article yet has THE CONTEXT of what is mentioned in the article. This reminds me of his ignorance regarding the type of GPU used in the CPU/GPU combo cooler where he just assumed the similarity between the 30 and 40 gen GPU. I really enjoy most of the conversation and input given in the WAN show and didn't jump on the hate train during the recent incidents, but LTT really doesn't seem to be living up to their promise in being careful as a journalistic entity. (As an attitude, well more so Linus)
@trashtrash2169
@trashtrash2169 Жыл бұрын
We will see. This seems unnecessary at best and just plain bad at worst. Search usually shows what you're looking for and I think already has voice input, and it is much faster in general. It's also a plus that you don't need to converse with it. For that one replier, Miscrosoft is not some small company, they are not Billet Labs, what an innane comparison. I don't think LTT is actually going to change much for the better, but this is not one of the tells. This will fail like every other Microsoft experiment, and probably should. Stop slobbing on the knob of the closest AI project and realize that almost none of them are usable yet, and the ones that are will soon become paywalled to the moon. AI will be a money maker, but not a useful tool for real people.

RF Blocking Paint! Finally! I worked as a technical support clerk for a communications company (like Rogers, Bell, etc) in Quebec and one of the higher level technicians told us about a client that painted his bedroom walls with this kind of paint because there was a huge rebate on the paint in some hardware store. Turns out the client couldn't put ethernet cables through walls (landlord refuses) so he had to strip out all the paint and do it again. That paint really worked as advertised. Lesson learned; don't cheap out on paint. Buy it nice or buy it twice! **Edit : this happened 4-5 years ago.

How much better can it possibly get in four days? How many people participate in previews like these? This is supposedly a build released today, or yesterday, so wouldn't the improvements from previous builds, if there were any, already be included? C'mon, where have you seen AI that can do the stuff this is being expected to do? The tech isn't there, this will be bad at release with a possibility for future improvement. @@trashtrash2169You're assuming this build and the release build are the same branch, that's not necessarily the case. Given the evidence at hand, it's almost certainly not. Take games, for comparison. You often have an early access game that's updated days before release, yet tons of new content appears on release. The early access updates were only technical at that point, while the release adds tons of extra content that was never in the early access. This could well be the same. The pre-release updates being merely technical in nature, while the dataset based on the training data is only included in the release. We'll know in a few days. I'd rate my expectations at medium to low. I know how to navigate Windows, so it would have to be pretty good to be an improvement over doing it old school.

@@spusuf We will see. I have to wonder what your definition of working 100% is. Even you have to realize that nothing works 100%. Nothing with AI works even 75%. The only convenience would be the settings app not opening. Definitely sounds very useful and not like more system bloat that Windows gets injected with every year.

I'm of two minds regarding the native vs. DLSS rendering discussion. And I can't really decide... On the one hand, I think that video game graphics are kinda overrated anyway. Games are (or should be) about their gameplay, and about being transported into a fictional world, and being able to interact with it in various ways. I'm not saying that visuals are not important - video games are a visual medium, and the visuals are important to the mood and feel of the work. But I believe that good art direction and art design is a LOT more important to that mood and feel, than having scientifically accurate, physically based rendering. On the other hand, things like for example raytraced global illumination can do a lot for the mood, even in games that are otherwise more stylized and not aiming for photo-realism. And many older rasterization methods and tricks are just trying to emulate exactly the same look, by layering multiple hacky approximations on top of each other - to far worse results. So, giving developers more and new tools to more easily achieve whatever look they are going for, is always a good thing. And I think that's what it boils down to - the developers should be able to pick and choose whatever they feel is the best match for the kind of game they are trying to make. Over the last years we've even seen some amazing games being made with retro pixel art in low resolution and very limited color palettes - and I see nothing wrong with that at all. So, I think AI methods like DLSS and stuff, should be just another tool for developers, to allow them to achieve whatever they are aiming for? The important part here is, that it remains optional - that developers actually have that choice to use it how they see fit.

On the topic of upscaling: I think developers working within the limitations of hardware has brought us some really unique experiences. Think of badgeboosting in early Pokémon, or the fog in I believe resident evil. Simply adding a filter with graphical artifacts or one that only works on certain components is the worst way to handle working within the limitations of hardware. Now, I absolutely love that upscaling exists, especially driver level ones that are a toggle for the user (think AMD's RSR). I love it because it allows for specific experiences, such as the Steam Deck to play certain games. Using it as a "by default" required toggle is... Well, not desirable.

It is being voted in right now and its purpose is to make EVERY single company to use their AI to scan through absolutely everything that you do. So when the CIA or FBI asks about people who have bomb related content on their device - the AI will dump that information to them. Or with the same power if you have let's say Biden's son laptop content - they will be at your door in an hour. Whatever they want to check - the AI will give it to them. Meanwhile the AI keeps a helpful facade to millions of people that it helps with daily query without telling them that it also spies and rats on them.

Hopefully in the future Linus will no longer be the name and face of LTT/LMG since he continues to prove he is far too naive and arrogant to be in a leadership position at the company. It doesn't matter if he gave the company life. It doesn't matter if he has good intentions with helping consumers make informed decisions on purchases. If he can't get his head out of his own ass and realize he's not as smart as he believes/loves to self-proclaim, then he needs someone who is to replace him. A new CEO was a great first step and having a right hand man like Luke should help significantly, but if he can't grow with the company into something other than his current self, it's time to back down.

Regarding using heat, I have my server rack in a small storage room. To prevent the room overheating I had someone install an AC duct with an inline fan that carries the heat all the way to the AC return in my ducted AC system. This means the servers are essentially heating the entire house (although it's a big house so it's unlikely you'd ever notice it). In summer it means it will make the house a bit warmer, but since we have solar we can easily counter that just by cooling the house with the AC. In winter days are shorter and nights are colder so the server rack is giving a small help to heating the home (again, probably hard to measure but it's something) and the server room stays a decent temperature all year round.

Nvidia isn't 'right' they just have a business mindset. It's significantly cheaper and more profitable long term to push exclusive software upgrades with marginally better hardware generation to generation vs providing a good value upgrade generation to generation based on hardware spec bumps. Hence the 40 series actually being a hardware downgrade in some areas but they sold them on the software exclusive features and called it an upgrade. This is what happens when there's a lack of competition. My expectation for the 50 series is a repeat of the 40 series. Little to no hardware upgrades but one new exclusive feature that just can't possibly run on the older cards because fuck you that's why. Now buy our overpriced garbage because you have no other choice in the high end PC market.

Sooner or later we'll reach a transistor size limit(and we are close already), at which point making any kind of performance improvement will be difficult. That means that there will have to be new tech that will improve performance further, some of it on the software side and some on hardware side(rt cores as a example). They can probably make the gpus bigger as well, but that comes with higher power consumption and also means the gpus will be hotter and harder to cool. So yes there are limits that can't be overcome with brute force and both nvidia and amd will hit those same limits.

@@Raigekon Yes and no. Are we close? Yes, are they close on consumer side, no its probably 10+ years out for them to reach where business is currently going. There is a huge size difference between Nvidia's 7nm chips and the 2nm chips that IBM successfully made a couple of years ago. Heck, the is a large difference between the standard 2nm that are going to be made starting next year with the 45nm gate and the IBM chip with it's 12nm gate which I think is scheduled to be made in late 2025 or early 2026. I believe they are working on making a 1nm and chip next year and they expect to get to 1/2nm after that. So for Nvida which is on 7nm now, they would be going to 5nm as the 2nms will start being made and by the time they go to 3 or 2nm the 1nm will be being made, etc. By the time they reach the limit of the current silicon designs, tech will have moved on to something different.

Watching Linus interact with the AI like it's a person, then getting frustrated when it doesn't react like a person is a good representation of how people naturally frame their interactions with current AI models. It's almost like a subconscious thing. It does seem though like Linus does always approach this stuff antagonistically as if he needs to obfuscate his intention to the AI as a challenge, instead of issuing simple commands. There is a balance between finding ways to break it and also finding ways in which it actually works. I'd like to see him at least try to find out what it can do in addition to what it can't. Also, he took the ai response at face value, when it said it's an AI, it can't interact with the computer. That's just the bing AI coming through. Don't we at this point more or less know the chip that's going in to the thing? Some people spoke about a closed door Unreal Engine demo at Gamescom that had "comparable visuals" to a showing on PS5 a couple years ago. Considering the Switch 2 has advantages in the form of DLSS, some amount of dedicated Nvidia RT hardware if it is Ampere or newer, and a several-years-newer version of UE5 on top of that it doesn't seem particularly unrealistic to me for it it run something that you'd think it might not be able to at like 720p 30fps and then use all manner of scaling magic to turn that in to something that is to 99% of people somewhere between comparable and indistinguishable to something they saw on PS5 a few years back.

The point was that the Switch 2 will have 4k capability using DLSS while keeping high frame rates. There's also been rumors of raytracing on it but tbh I really doubt it, though if it did have raytracing then the graphics comparison would check out.

You can also install Water Re circulators They send the cold water from your hot water pipes and stop as soon as they send The hot water so you don't lose water Resurculated back into the cold water system

Linus also thought he was right about the Billet Labs video/situation. I'm 100% with Luke; someone could legitimately conflate the actual item with the early build.

Luke just made me laugh so hard. Tomb Raider the look on Linus’s face. Priceless.

I still don’t know if he actually thought the 2018 Spider-Man game is based on a movie. Because it’s not. It’s completely unrelated and way better.

Story and gameplay are a problem in most AAA games nowdays, half of them just focus on graphics, and the other half just focus in being as big as possible, but forget the details, and to give life to the massive world they created, Starfield is the last example of this second type of AAA, massive world, a lot of worlds, but almost nothing to do in them.

You can get little water to air radiators that sit inside vents in your house as part of a hydronic heating system. They aren't expensive and they would look exactly the same as the vents in a forced air heating system. Id link one here but not sure what the policy on amazon links is.

Biggest problem with dlss is a race to the bottom. We can see it clearly in starfield, devs will take any excuse to not optimize their games. Instead of getting something thats better looking or runs better with dlss, what well end up with is something thats worse native and needs dlss to barely run or barely look possible.

Smart-guessing the missing pixels to upscale an image can never be better than the original image at a higher resolution to begin with. AI upscaling may do a pleasingly good job, sure. So the question then becomes what matters to you. What concerns me the most has already happened: games rendering at sub-1080 resolutions and leaning on upscaling as a crutch to reach 1440p and 4K. Give devs a crutch, it becomes their third leg (fourth?). Optimization is a legitimate and necessary step in the development of any good game, and it shouldn't get skimped on with cheats like upscaling.

the way you worded it makes me think of generative fill... gotta be realy careful about how much you fill in. Which is probably why they're saying that 1440 is the point where it is legitimately viable.

Just like ReShade has democratized shaders, I really look forward to a future where gaming communities can band together to train their own AI models to use in games like shaders today
