@tsuperuser16 күн бұрын
This is what happens with spoiled kids. Instead of buying stuff for them, just spend quality time playing with them and actually play with them instead of watching or sending them off somewhere. Kids dont need parties or gifts every year. They need a loving family that engages with them daily and appreciation for the times parties/gifts come will happen.
@Silverhazey_16 күн бұрын
@@tsuperuserthey are also probably used to getting almost everything they ask for, so why be excited? “oh Dad finally got us the thing we asked for, yawn, buy us this next thing we want”.. Don't cup the mics! Vocal mics are cardioid, they reject sound coming from the back of it. When you cup the mic it blocks the ports that are needed for that rejection to happen and the mic becomes omnidirectional. It will also change its frequency response and it is not for the better. So, DO NOT CUP THE MIC! It looks cooler but laws of physics does not care about coolness.

For the first set: the Behringer SL84C is better than the PGA from Shure... And there really was no reason for MG06, that Pyle does it just fine with equal sound quality. Don't know how it reverb sounds but with "pro" gear you usually pay for ruggedness not so much about sound quality. What the DIY setup lacks is a compressor, which can take the peaks out and flatten out the sound levels, making louder peaks quieter. But, compressors are not for kids, hell, they are black magic for most adults. It takes fair bit of experience to learn how to use them but to be fair, you ask any sound engineer can they can give safe values that will work. Like.. -12dB threshold, 10ms attack, 50ms release, ratio of 4:1, where the threshold really is the only one that needs adjustments (look at the compressor gain reduction meter that it is showing that it is doing something at fairly loud singing, dial the threshold until it does that)
@jamesbyronparker17 күн бұрын
You're probably right about the behringer, though I havent used one, and i wouldn't have chosen the mg06, as theres better options, but pyle equipment belongs in the trash, legitimately
@squidcaps430817 күн бұрын
@@jamesbyronparker Yeah, Pyle is quite trash but for this use.. it'll do. It is not touched much, it is indoors... light use at home is not very demanding. For the road it is absolutely a no-no, it isn't even good for a rehearsal space that has one ancient PA speaker for the vocals... As long as you get a unit that isn't broken out of the factory..
@unknownregions501417 күн бұрын
I have to disagree about the Pyle and behringer , it is a pyle of crap. Ill take Shure PG48 anyday over any behringer mic, the quality while not great, the Shure will last longer especially around kids. Desk wise Yamaha does sound better than Pyle, and yes the quality is a lot better, I also wouldnt call the MG06 prosumer per say, more low end professional as they are built for the professional market. Linus could of got a Mackie or RCF mixer which is slightly cheaper and is more prosumer in its quailty. I do agree however having a compressor would help, but if not setup correctly can cause more feedback.
@alidan17 күн бұрын
@@unknownregions5014 for anything audio, especially in the pro area, I would go used over new, but if I went new, I would go cheapest clone that isn't crap, and that would fall on behringer, a lot of the pro audio realm is absolute snakeoil pretending they can hear a difference, you cant in most cases. for pyle, if you aren't moving it constantly, its perfectly fine for the price.

KZbin has (relatively) new functionality to post videos with two titles and thumbnails. The poster can then see click through and retention stats for each one. They had a video showing the capability a while ago on whether the open mouth thumbnails many KZbinrs use actually makes a difference.

I think for kids, especially since you already have an xbox, the best option would be to just buy Rock Band 4... It's WAY more interactive, with the on screen visuals, campaign modes, meters on how you're singing accuracy is going (with difficulties setting for any skill level). Assuming you already own the Xbox, it's also way cheaper. You can buy a new copy of the game for $30. And each Microphone new is $40 and you can have up to 3 microphones playing in a single game. Add a guitar for that one kid who doesn't like to sing and you're still under budget. Not to mention this stuff is definitely available, used, for less.. The downsides being less available songs, or having to purchase specific songs, but if this is a fleeting interest, I think kids will look past the limited library more than adults would.

The DIY setup is so common even in the professional spaces. The number of times I just hand someone a couple XLRs and they can just hook up whatever they want makes the house technician's job so much easier. I also love those little Yamaha boards. I've had a PGA48 in my pelican case for over 10 years and it still kicks butt for talkback and last minute "we need a mic here" uses. For those that would want to use a home AV receiver, a professional line level to consumer line level converter (eg. Radial J+4) would be a great way to make this happen. Add a limiter (sometimes built into a mixer) and you're off to the races. Granted, that Radial J4 would cost just as much as the entire DIY setup, so maybe a small JBL/QSC/Mackie speaker from FB marketplace is a better option lol. FWIW, if you dont need full EQ/reverbs, lots of small PA speakers have up to 4 inputs. So it could be pretty close to all in one.

What a fun video! Im actually a professional KJ in real life. Never really thought about a kids setup. You could set up an audio limiter between the mixer and the speakers. That would keep the kids from being able to damage your home system. Behringer makes an inexpensive one. seismic audio has some really nice Pa/mic combos that might work better though. Karaoke-Version is a great place to get songs, as is SunFly (which is not available in the US unfortunately). Karafun is a really good option for single use parties. Pretty sure they have or at least had a 1 night party option that was less than the 10 a month fee. but it's been a while since i checked them out because i like to own my own music. VDJ is another option that you can use for the program. it's free if you're not using a big fancy DJ mixer and has a simplified skin for easier use. that also gives you the ability to load virtually any music file from mp4, to wav, to cdg.

The Japanese too. Why else would practically every Yakuza (Like A Dragon) game have a Karaoke minigame?

Basically, Eastern and Southeast Asians have karaoke down very well. Magic Sing is one of the big brands I know various families (including mine) have and my specific model has a 50 dollar subscription option for a year to have access to MANY other songs on their library. This means my family and friends can enjoy singing their newer English songs, Filipino songs, and then me enjoying singing my favorite Japanese songs (granted, I can only read some Japanese and use my phone for lyrics, but hey this can at least score it)

Your videos have been suggested in the past, but I never jumped in to actually subscribe. Now that I have, I am glad that I did. I got an over the top server farm in your basement, to fixing motherboards, to ridiculous karaoke machines. BTW decades ago there was a fantastic (free) (passable) vocal remover on a Linux Winamp clone. I used it for some podcast work back in the day.

Hey, a hobby PA guy here! You can actually hook up the PA mixer to a home theatre system quite easily. If you don't care about finding your amps built-in protections (even my crappy Yamaha HTR-4063 shuts off when a feedback loop occurs, don't ask how i found out) then you can just connect the mixer. Else, you might want to use a limiter (which just cuts off peaking signals, much like the amp in a PA speaker would do). Set it up once so that nowhere in the room the mics can feedback, and then never change the settings. Since this guy is connected between mixer and sound system, you can go +15db on the mixer and still wouldn't get any feedback or cause damage to your speakers (RIP sound quality though). If your mics do collect feedback even at low volumes, a piece of equipment called a "feedback destroyer" can become handy. Just depends on how much time and money you would like to spend on superior sound quality :-) (Everyone reading this should do their own research prior to buying anything. Can't hurt to know the matter at least a little bit)

My wife is from the Phillipines where they are absolutely obsessed with Karaoke. They all use some kit called "Magic Sing". Its like an all in one Microphone which has AV out and has all the music on little cartridges which can be swapped out. Hers is about 15yrs old now but its surprisingly neat and it works well if thats your thing. Personally i hate Karaoke !. lol

I went down this same rabbit hole awhile back and came up with almost the same DIY setup. I have an optical out on my older Roku ultra that goes to an optical to RCA splitter, and the RCA feeds into a small Yamaha mixing board. I have two mics wired with XLR cables, and the mixing board outputs to my Onkyo AV receiver that can output the audio from the CD input while running the video from the BD/DVD input that my Roku is connected to. The biggest issue I ran into is getting the levels right since the mic inputs come in so much quieter than the Roku input. I ended up with the main and mics set moderately high, the music input down fairly low, and the AV receiver volume turned way up from where I have it for TV and movies, but it works well. I definitely wouldn't trust children to adjust the mixing board levels unattended though.

Im going to give my list of products I would of gone for as an audio professional. While the list isnt perfect, it balances budget and setup. Also this is stuff I can get in the UK rather than Canada. For the mixer I do agree on the Yamaha MG06 is the best of both audio quality and ruggedness, however if you wanted a rack solution the Studiomaster C3X (made by FBT, £244.55/$317.55 USD) is a good option. The mics I would go with W-Audio RM10 Wireless mic system (£51/$66.22), W-Audio are on the low end of wireless mic systems but are actually pretty good at the £200 and up mark, the lower end stuff is alright, and is perfect for home use, all standard AA batteries used as far as Im aware. You can then just plug the audio into the mixer from either the TV headphone out or PC headphone out. Software there is SInga, also £9.99 a month.

This is the LTT I really enjoy. Show off a great quality DIY solution most people can afford, but also some off-the-shelf options for non DIY or apartment dwellers. Some things like this just don't need LABS and just need a general opinion from regular users of the product.

Great overview! Karafun has been my go-to for YEARS now. They really do have a great setup and if you buy a basic PA system that you can plug your laptop audio and a couple mics into it you have a really great versatile setup. I like the DIY because you can also use it for other things. I have several PA systems for different types of events but honestly my little Samson Expedition speaker setup is my favorite because it’s SO simple, has quality sound, and can handle the most common uses. If you’re into tech / events at all it’s for sure something you should own.

Coincidentally I just ordered a karaoke system from Walmart online. $70 for a dual wireless rechargeable mic soundbar system by Topvision. Took a chance because of the price, but it works great and I didn't have to mess with my current sound system. Connect Bluetooth to my TV so when I turn it on the TV auto connects and then I can use KZbin or Karafun app casting to the TV. The mics don't seem as configurable and reverb is cranked by default, but they work well and are pretty loud. $70 all in fully wireless setup is well worth it.

What i have done multiple times before is invite a bunch of friends over, plug a mic into my pc and run it through a daw. Turn on some basic vocal EQ, reverb, and most importantly autotune makes it really fun. Just use a saved profile so you dont have to have your friends watching you use a DAW lol Then I turn on KZbin karaoke videos. It is a lot of fun

This is very similar to what I figured out. I have an interface with 2 wireless mics going into logic, CLA vocals,(when I had Murda Melodies from Slate Digital that was great too) and WaveTune RT, I lookup each song with tune bat and have to set the key per mic but I also have Mixed In Key Live if we want to do random freestyle on a YT Beat or any unreleased songs. I wish I could figure out how to link the mics and get then to auto set the key, then I wouldn't have to run the thing all night long. I've been trying to make a video about it cuz I haven't found anyone else with a setup like this.

As someone who does this for living.. I’ve done this exact thing for my daughter! While I didn’t use a subscription service (I prefer owning my cdg+g zip files) I used a MeLE stick pc connected to her tv and I installed the software and connected it to my file sharing server where I keep a backup of my karaoke music (read only) and I was going to buy that exact mixer but instead I decided to use an old X-AIR wireless mixer I had and hid it behind her tv on a wall mount since it could controlled with a tablet which she had only thing I did different was connect it to a sound bar through from the earphone out on the mixer to the soundbar through a 1/4 to 3.5mm cable. I did cheap out on the mics but the receiver is on top the x air, I turned the gain down to prevent her from blowing out the audio and squelch and since can’t be seen or reached easily it’s never been a problem but hers has a charging base (serviceable batteries) which makes it easier without having to constantly needing batteries. It actually sounds pretty decent but I wouldn’t host a show with it.
