The oilers have somehow started to rival the leafs for the most absurdly confusing amazing yet terrible team. The way they lose while setting offensive records, dominate and then choke games, and find one in a million losses is still ridiculously entertaining

There is no silver lining for Edmonton unlike Toronto, this is a disaster of a season for them, and alot of ways they are the worst team in the nhl atm. Getting beaten by the sharks is embarrassing. 2:05 In my opinion this is exactly what distinguishes mcdavid from the greatest of all time.. He spent his entire career so far as a 'piece' of the oilers chess set.. He even mentions he thinks it doesn't take 'one' player to win, and that he needs a cup to cement his legacy (which is 100% the truth and reality).. So he realistically expects his talents to be 'used' in such a fashion that would win a cup, whether it be for the Oilers which he has betted his entire career on up until this point, or another team with becomes all the more likely the worse the oilers do.. Ironically the oilers have now ended up as far away from that chance as possible this season, and McDavid still wants that cup probably more badly then ever. He is reaching an age where 'all the greats' pretty much had won their *multiple* cups already.. The difference is all of those players formed and changed teams to their needs, they forced the change required to win cups, rather than expecting it to come to them just for being the most skilled.. Sure he may get traded to a team that will win some cups, or maybe the oilers turn their fate around one day and win.. He'll still never be one of the greatest of all time to me, because he has proven and basically admitted that he just goes with the flow.. He doesn't do what the greatest players did in order to win. Maybe the most all around skilled player up until this point, but I can all but guarantee a younger player comes in who is just as fast and just as skilled if not more. The chance occurs every year around the draft. It also goes back to how the oilers have this 'team first' mentality, even going back to the 'pissy' argument with the reporter.. This whole team refuses to call each other out, their first thought is to protect their teammates. Similar to why draisytl refuses to answer questions on why they sucked.. Its not like he doesn't have an opinion, he just doesn't want to throw anyone under the bus. You can even mention certain aspects of a hockey game without calling anyone out, he just likes to be vague and a dick because.. well he is pissy when he loses. It's so easy to forget that this isn't house league on sunday and these guyse are playing proffessionally for MILLIONS of dollars. Yup 'they have every right to be children'. Funny how just recently the video of Tchachuck yellling at his teammate before they worked it out, ended up being praised across the entire nhl media and fans.. Maybe the oilers, or at least their top players could take some notes. And for those who think 'Mcdavid has already garraunteed himself' as one of the best of all times.. Carreer ended/altering injuries do happen in violent contact sport, speaking of 'chance' the chance of that occurs every time he is playing, even during practice. If he got injured and couldn't 'finish' racking up all his points, then where does he land?

I've said it before, McDavid's wasting his talent in Edmonton, but there's something to be said for having loyalty to a franchise/team. But, as you said, Goaltending and Defense is a glaring problem for the Oilers and has been for a long time. If McDavid, Draisaitl and maybe even Evander Kane aren't scoring at a lightning pace, then the defense has a hell of a time keeping the Oilers in the game, to say nothing about Goaltending. At this point, the Oilers might need to do what the Hawks are doing and tear it all down and start over with maybe McDavid and Draisaitl as the cornerstones.

Lifer Oiler fan. Lived in ED for years. I can easily understand why the team is so up and down, even with draft lotteries. Bad draft choice or two (Yams and Jesse P), over pay a player or two (Nurse, yams, and Jesse P and Campbell), and have cold ass winters with a Canadian dollar. Now true TO and MON also have similar scenarios with winters, but older franchises (both original 6) and Both larger more white collar cities. Now if you are a UFA and you can choose to live in lets say Florida, or California get paid in US dollars vs Canadian and not have snow on the ground for 365 days, or... play with McDavid and Drais and maybe win a cup, maybe... It's easy to see outside draft choices why many good- elite players will choose option B. Now you have a smaller pool to choose from off of the hop and you still want to be competitive in Net and Defensively. What do you do? You overpay, then you have less money for other talents, then you pick unwisely in a couple of drafts and now you are 5-9-1 and people are asking what happened to the Oilers... Reality check, The sins of yesterday have caught up.

The sausage riding for McDavid and Drai is unreal. You can’t win a championship with two players. It takes a whole team with talent spread throughout the lineup. Having two players hogging a quarter of the team cap is the death of this team and I have been expecting it for a while. It makes me laugh. And seeing EVERY hockey content creator saying the same thing is getting kind of obnoxious honestly. The only reason the oilers have even had a chance in recent years is because they have been playing top of their game. The rest of the team is irrelevant, but without money, how can you build a good team around them? You have 17 other players on the active roster at a time, plus scratches and backup keepers that you need to sign. McDavid and Drai are greedy and have no business being worth that much. Same with Matthews, but that’s a different rant and at least he is scoring. If they want the team to be successful, they wouldn’t be hindering their ability to gather good help

I feel bad for oilers fans but i feel more bad for those canucks fans that threw there jerseys on the ice during games in 2022

Everyone keeps saying oilers biggest issue is their goaltending. But it's their DEFENSE! Every year oilers show up with less than average defenseman. Last year stu stood in his head for the poor defense. Playoffs he didn't do as well, so this season starts and the defense is horrendous. Instead of allowing the goaltender to regain his confidence, oilers D is the biggest tire fire it's been in forever. Defense needs to improve before getting a goaltender, or else all we're gonna do is burn out their confidence too

As a oilers fan with good hopes going into this season I want to die it’s horrible to just watch it doesn’t look like we want to play hockey

The Oilers forwards do not know how to play in their D zone and are weak on the back check. Change that and the rest comes. Might not be that easy for them though.

Highest scoring Connor is Kyle, not Bedard.

What’s embarrassing is the fact that the golden knights have a cup before mcdavid. Dude should of had a cup before knights even existed

Agreed. Moved there from BC for 6 weeks then high-tailed it outta there. Never going back

Lol I saw the thumbnail (before having watched the video or knowing what happened exactly) and i was gonna comment “would you rather be a sharks fan or an oilers fan”

Campbell and nurse using 15 million in cap space. Campbell can’t even be a back up, and nurse can’t even play a special team.

This was always the plan. Four more 1st overall draft picks and they'll really start to turn it around

It's Ken Holland. The game passed him by about 10 years ago. We're still living with the mess that he made in Detroit. He had his day and built great teams pre and post salary cap. But he's clearly out of his depth at this point.

As a Kings fan, not only was I frustrated when the Kings couldn't finish off the Oilers in 2022, not only was I *INFURIATED* by McDirty cheapshotting Mikey Anderson and ruining our season this spring (compounded by the League letting him off scot-free and McLellan telling the team to "focus on the game" for the LA rematch where the *entire arena* wanted someone to make Conor BLEED and nothing happened except a passive loss as we fell apart down the stretch and ended up in 3rd and out in 6 and having traded Quick and yet done worse than the season before)…but now all I can do is look at the Alberta carnage and think: "Of course by the time WE get them on the schedule, they'll have figured everything out and everybody will be fawning over McDavid again." And then I get a headache. It's a long long time to February 10. (How do we not get to play a division rival until after the ASG??) I guess the only positive is that we don't see Vancouver until Leap Day (and we play them *four* times) so perhaps they will have reverted to form by then, but that's still a crazy schedule (We get Calgary once at Xmas, and then the other 3 matchups the same time we start playing the 'Nucks. Goodness.)

Yesterday, the Sharks were America's (and Canada's) team. Today, they're currently getting stomped 2-0 by Vegas and it's kinda upsetting.

Guess I'll go back to keeping track of the stats, vs watching the games for the next 5 years like the decade of darkness. Good times ahead.

Renenber when the Jets swept the Oilers in the first round, like just over two years ago? The fragility was as obvious then as it is now.

Told my buddy the oilers were going for it this year and might even get a cup, months before the season started. God was I wrong, didn’t even watch the game just to try and save myself

As a Leafs fan I don’t like the shitting on the Oilers right now. I don’t like them at all, but I don’t like kicking a team while they’re down.

San Jose isn't the bubble Edmonton is either, making things even worse for the Oilers.
