One of the funniest comments I've ever seen on a Queen video was someone who said the other 3 look like rock stars-- John looks like he's walking through Home Depot looking for paint. He really hated the glam clothing and, after they hit it big he asked Freddie if he HAD to dress like, you know, a rock star (and this was in the 70's, when Freddie was still quite the peacock). Freddie told him absolutely not-- you dress however you want. Thus the famous blue/blue ensemble. Who doesn't love Deaky??

John Deacon was the youngest member, he was only 19 when he joined Queen. John had enrolled at the University of London studying Electrical Engineering when he first joined Queen. Though John had played in bands since he was young, when he first left home to go to Uni, he didn't even take his guitar (he was serious about his studies) but in the 2nd year, he took his guitar to school with him. He had missed it and wanted to play with groups on the weekend as a sort of hobby to unwind. He never had a desire to play in a rock band full time much less to be a rock star. Freddie, being 5 years older than John, took him under his wing and became his mentor. As the stardom of Queen rose, each of the members of Queen had difficulty adjusting to the life of a rockstar, and Freddie is created with helping John deal with it. They were extremely close. In the first couple of years, Queen struggled financially, Their gigs barely paid and they couldn't afford the equipment they really needed to make the sound they wanted. John applied his electronic engineering skill and built an electric guitar amplifier called the Deacy Amp. Walking home one night, he saw parts of an old portable radio in a trash bin and he took them home. Using the amplifier circuit board from the Supersonic PR80 radio he found, he fitted it into a speaker cabinet which was powered by a 9-volt battery and created the Deacy Amp. The amplifier had no volume or tone controls and for most of its history, it was never broken thus never repaired. It was used along with Brian May's Red Special electric guitar and treble-booster to produce sounds reminiscent of various orchestral instruments, such as violin, cello, trombone, clarinet, or even vocals, The Deacy Amp was used on about 95% of Queen's songs. John married his wife, Veronica, in 1975 and they have been married 46 years with 6 adult children. (5 boys and 1 girl). When Freddie passed away in 1991, John took it hard. He could see no point in continuing without Freddie, so he retired from performing, though he is still very much involved in the financial aspect of Queen, he now leads a quiet life in a small English village with his wife. All 4 members of Queen were strong individualists. They had different views and different tastes in music but they respected each other.. Though they all were "Rock" fans, they each had a favorite genre under the rock umbrella. John tended toward R&B/soul music. He pushed the group to perform disco style and funk ("Another One Bites The Dust") with Freddie's support when both Roger and Brian were extremely resistant (Roger hated disco).

Freddie is looking back at Roger because Roger hated doing this song live, because the energy he put into playing the drums made singing into the mike really hard. It was Freddie's revenge for what has become known as the 'Cupboard Incident' where Roger locked himself in a storage cupboard at the studio until Freddie agreed to put 'I am in Love With My Car' on the B-side of the 'Bohemian Rhapsody' Single.

Roger wrote this song about one of their roadies who really did love his car, but I love the lyrics: With my hand on your grease gun, but here he sings “Your hand on my Grease Gun” which gives it a WHOLE different context 😉 Naughty Roger. I’d love you to add Now I’m Here live at Wembley to your list. If you think Roger is working hard on his drums here, wait for it because he said it was exhausting, physically the hardest for him to play. There is a video out there called Now I’m Here Roger Cam, and during the whole song they used only the cameras that were focused on him, and all I can say is, that man must have some stamina! Loved your reaction, maybe go back and concentrate on the lyrics for both songs. Killer Queen in particular has incredibly clever lyrics, written about a high class call girl

Another great reaction Rad. John Deacon was the “quiet” member of the band. He and Freddie were very close. John was a reluctant rock star. I’ve read that when he joined the band he thought he might do it at weekends for a few years. A very clever man, he has a degree in electronics/engineering and built the Deaky amp which helps towards that signature Queen sound (something about the guitars feeding back). Although he’s quiet and shy by nature he was no pushover and had his firey side. Sadly now retired, he just wants to be left alone to live in peace with his family. He took Freddie’s death badly 😔

John was very close to his father, too, who sadly died suddenly when John was only 11. I know Freddie took him under his wing early on and was very protective of him, big-brotherly you might say. But I also wonder, with Freddie being the oldest of the 4 and John the youngest, if John didn't also find something of a father figure in Freddie, which he missed so much and needed so badly. I do believe, although some disagree, that John took Freddie's death the hardest and simply could not bear performing as Queen without him. God bless him, and his bass which IMO was the backbone of the band.

@@3ScotsInk yeah Freddie was 5 years older tha John. That not so much, but you can thik how huge personality Freddie had. And Freddie really took John under his wings. John have said: when Freddie was there I wa not afraid of nothing, and have no anxiati. Freddie altso learn him to have more modern clouths on. John had a drinking problem too, he had a table with all kind of drink beehaind him when he was on stage, he was pretty drunk at the end of concert. Brian and Roger had beer behaind Rogers drums. Freddie had, thea with honey, warm and could wather, juice, coffee, and one beer on the piano + all the drink to the people who was working on the stage. But it was John who drink moust on concert. He have 6 kids and have been married with his wife seens -75...

Wonderful reaction!!! You're right 100%, they are/were a very tight group (most of the time 😉). Whenever he was asked about being "The Leader" of the group, Freddie would always reply, "I'm not the leader! I'm not a General or anything! We're 4 equal members. I'm just the lead singer." 💜 John (Deaky) Deacon was/is very much a private and generally shy person. He initially joined the band just temporarily because he was still at University and they promised to pay £20 a week, which would help with his personal expenses. He never anticipated that they would still be playing together 15 years in. He has a degree in electrical engineering and he and Brian created the "Deaky" amp that was/is used by Brian to help make the signature sound of Brian's "Red Special " guitar. They named the amp the "AC/DEAKY". He is still married to his high school sweetheart, Veronica, and they have 6 children. They still live in the first house they purchased after Queen made it big. He is still in charge of the financial side of Queen and must give his ok for any licensing that represents him. He's just chosen to stay out of the limelight.

You were reading into it correctly, they all four were very tight together, if you know what to look for, and you do, all four of them are always sending cues to each other, especially Freddie to them. They also had fun. When it was one members time to be in the spotlight, Freddie would either go off stage or like in this with Roger, just be a band member playing piano.

1) Killer Queen put Queen on the map. Then a year later Bohemian Rhapsody was released and the rest, as they say, is history. 2) Roger, Roger, Roger... He was Queen's Pretty Boy, Party Boy, and went through a lot of girlfriends. He was also, though Freddie was capable of hitting falsetto, Freddie's stealth weapon on those super high notes. Listen to any interview online with Roger speaking-- he has a high voice to this day. I at times think he almost sounds like he's been sucking on helium. Another person commented that he sounds like Winnie the Pooh. Whatever, he was and still is simply adorable and, yes, had it not been for the superhuman (literally) voice of Freddie's, both Brian and Roger could have been lead singers of a band, and better ones than a lot of others out there back in the day and now. The coming together of those 4 men was pure mystical magic that will never be exactly reproduced. P.S. You've got to react to I Want To Break Free (official video) to see Roger in drag proving you don't have to be gay to be a great looking man and a gorgeous woman as well. Trust me, you'll see.

Fun fact about this song: it was on the B side of Bohemian Rhapsody. Back in the day we could buy vinyl 45’s which had an A side and a B side. The song released as a single was on the A side, and then they’d choose something for the B side. Roger fought to have his song as the B side but Freddie didn’t want it sullying his masterpiece. Roger apparently locked himself in a cupboard and refused to come out until the band agreed. Freddie was all for leaving him in there, but Roger won in the end 😆 I love Roger’s growly voice. Another of his songs Rock It (Prime Jive) has Freddie singing the intro, and Roger singing the rest. It’s one that will get you jiving! FYI bass guitarist is John (Deacy) Deacon. The quiet member of the group, but pay attention to him in the live concerts because he’s always bopping and jiving away to the music, so he’s been dubbed “The Dancing Queen “ (a play on an ABBA song). He could dig his heals in if he felt the need, but otherwise is very unassuming. Such a shame for the Queenies that he retired after Freddie’s death, but we respect his decision. He took it very hard.

For a great example of pure musicianship please try " White Queen ( A Night at the Odeon- Hammersmith 1975) Their talent, cohesion and perfection are all there. This show is the same era as the Bohemian Rhapsody video. Somebody to Love was in 1981 and Live Aid was 1985. They were the most educated band out there. Freddie had an art degree and designed the Queen Logo. Roger switched from dentistry to a biology degree. John electronic engineering degree and he designed and modified their stage and recording amps ( the Deacy Amp). Brian has a PhD and is Dr. Brian May, Astrophysicist and has worked with NASA. Brian and his father spent 2 years making his famous Red Special Guitar using what they had because he couldn't afford a new one. The body is an old tabletop, the neck part of a Victorian fireplace mantle, the finger markings are his mother's pearl buttons, the vibrato mom's knitting needle and old bike parts as well. He still plays it in concert today on tour. Queen is the only band in which every member wrote songs that became hits. The second song at Live Aid was Radio GaGa written by Roger and the source of Lady Gaga's name. The Live Aid performance is considered to be the best live rock performance of all time. As you dive deeper all the way up to Freddie's last work you are going to be stunned by the depth and lyrics in those last 2 albums. But you have much more to hear before then..... .

Love this reaction! Has anybody told you about their college degrees? Dr. Brian May (guitar) PhD in astrophysics, Roger Taylor (drums) college degree in biology, John Deacon (Bass) college degree in electrical engineering and Freddie Mercury, college degree in creative art. Having said all of that I don’t think having a college degree is for everybody nor does it necessarily make you the smartest person in the world. College is really all about being persistent and sticking with it for all of those years. But it does mean something, and with this specific band, it is unusual. Gives you further insight into these guys, they are really smart and it also shows on the business side of Queen, the Queen Legacy. Think of all of the movies, commercials, sporting events, that use their music, some members still play to sold out crowds today with Adam Lambert. Vanilla Ice used their bass line from one of the Queen songs for Ice Ice Baby, Queen sued and won. So the business side of Queen is a big deal. The story behind John Deacon is he just retired after Freddie died. Became a recluse. He played at the big Freddie tribute concert and played on the song, No one but you (only the good die young) and then just walked away from it all. He, of course, is still making money from the business side of Queen but when asked in interviews Roger and Brian just kind of side step the question for the most part. Freddie’s death hit him hard I think? And yes, he is the most quiet and reserved one of the group. You will occasionally see him sing but he never really sang to harmonize like Brian, Roger and Freddie. He thought he didn’t have a good voice. You should watch the Bohemian Rhapsody movie once you have been on the Queen journey. Brian and Roger had a lot to do with the movie and it is really good. I am not sure all of it is 💯 truth but it is as close as possible, for Hollywood? I love watching Roger sing this song, this band can literally sing about anything. It really shows what a great voice he has and how well he plays the drums. It is not easy to play drums and sing at the same time. I will be looking for the next one! ❤️

The Bohemian Rhapsody movie is extremely inaccurate. About 80% of the movie is inaccurate it is far better to watch Queen documentaries, some them are also inaccurate but less so then the biopic.
@terrilabeth7366
@terrilabeth7366 3 жыл бұрын
@@ZENOBlAmusic it was “Hollywooded” up I think but remember that Brian and Roger were there for most of it. I am not saying it was 💯 accurate, but I think it gives a glimpse, a feeling of what their life was like. And Rami Malek as Freddie, brilliant, it is worth the watch just to see him. He worked hard for that movie, he had respect for Freddie and for Queen. Try moving like Freddie Mercury, you will find out that it is one of the most difficult things to do. I have tried and felt and looked ridiculous. Rami worked with a movement coach, not a choreographer, but a movement coach. There was no scripting Freddie Mercury and those moves. I agree, the documentaries are the place to go and thank goodness we have those, and often in the quality that we have. Back then you were lucky if you got something special on film, of any quality. The movie is worth it.

John actually was the real family man of the group. He had 3 kids by the time he was 27 years old. Today he's still married to the same woman, the mother of his 6 children. And, of course, now he's a grandfather. Probably the only thing a little troubling about John was that he drank. A lot. He had an entire bar set up behind where he stood, invisible to audiences, and would duck back when possible and down a few. That's why, if you watch a whole concert, you'll usually easily notice that John's much looser onstage as the show goes on. Now, he's simply a private man who has virtually no contact with Brian and Roger, who wants to be left alone to enjoy the fruits of his labor, his wife, children, and grandchildren. All 4 were great human beings through and through, albeit in different, unique ways.

Somebody to Love is your favourite so far....I challenge you to watch/listen to White Queen live at The Odeon Hammersmith,1975, and then say if Somebody to Love is still your favourite. I absolutely adore STL also, but it is a very close second to White Queen. Brian wrote it while he was still in college, about a girl he had a crush on but never had the courage to speak to. For me it conjures up Lothlorien, (Lord of the Rings) with elves and forests, it is absolutely beautiful

They were very good friends, indeed. The camaraderie is real! They went through a lot in their early days, but nothing could stop them from achieving their dream. On the bass guy: John Deacon, awesome bass player (his bass lines are just genius on all of Queen's songs, always very functional for each song and always adding to the harmony). He's also responsible for some of Queen's greatest hits, like I Want To Break Free and Another One Bites The Dust which was Queen's biggest hit in the US back in 1980. You know who told Queen it should be released as a single because it was certain to become a hit? None other than Michael Jackson. He heard them play it live at the Forum in LA in '80 and met them backstage after the show, saying that he was sure it would top the US charts - and so it did! It's understandable that John decided to retire after Freddie's death, because Freddie was his best friend and the one who encouraged him the most to write songs and be more outgoing. But the musical world misses him a LOT.

This was filmed by a company that had told the band to wear the same clothes on the two days - and the crowd to be more calm. they didn't wear the same clothes - and they did try to make more noice in the crowd so you can see. In Love of my life they don't sing along - which Freddie commented to Brian: They don't know it - and Brian answering - it's all right- . I guess that it is faster because Freddie was furious . That bass guy is John Deacon - and he is the quit one - - but also known as *Queens secret Weapon- listen to his baselines.Roger wrote this last song - and is often compared with Rod Stewart . I also love watching Roger play and sing. His voice is generally kind of raspy, but he can also do that clean falsetto as showcased in Bohemian Rhapsody. If you watch very early videos, his drum set looked like it came from a high school band room. His later sets were 3x that size and he plays them all. This song was on the B side to Bohemian Rhapsody. He also did the Galileo high voice notes in Bohemian Rhapsody and in the song In the Lap of the Gods...live in think 74? Freddie is wearing white. John originally started out playing Rythm guitar then went on to bass. He joined Queen a year later or so around March 1971 from Queens beginning in 1970.. They have all written no.1 songs. John is the songwriter to Another one bites the dust which the group were originally not that impressed about. Michael Jackson who was a fan of Queens and used to frequent their concerts..said they HAD to put it out as a single. It then went to no.1 in the USA and was mainly played on the funk black radio stations because they thought the band were black!.. Also, it was John who also thought up the riff to Under Pressure which was a song that came about after they met up with David Bowie in their studios in Montreux, Switzerland. John studied electronical engineering at college and was the creator of the Deacy Amp.. which created those awesome sounds you will hear particularly in their early days from Brian's Red Special Guitar. This guitar was made from part of an old fireplace by Brian and his dad when Brian was a teenager. He still plays it today. Brian studied Astrophysics and monecular dust particles in space..and has a PHD and is now known as DR. Brian May. Roger studied Dentistry but dropped out and did Biology. Freddie studied Art and Graphic design, designing the famous Queen logo. The crab at the top is Brian. The two lions fir Leo either side is John and Roger and the 2 fairies at the bottom left and right are Freddie for Virgo. Brian and Roger both did Solo albums followed by Freddie with Mr. Bad Guy. Freddie also collaborated with Michael Jackson with There must be more to life than this, Victory which was never completed but Michael's estate owns it and State of Shock, which there is a copy of in KZbin. But Michael wanted it on his album, and Freddie could not get back to record it properly..so Michael asked Freddie could Mick Jagger sing it instead..and Freddie agreed he could. Freddie also worked and sung with a famous Spanish Opera Soprano singer, called Montserrat Caballe. They completed an album together. Barcelona, The Golden Boy, The Fallen Priest, Guide me home / How can I go on and Le Japonaise (sung in Japanese I think) to mention a few. You need to listen to Freddie's Exercises in Free love song, no words, tones only to hear the extent of his range. This was on the B side to Freddie's The Great Pretender solo single. Later becoming Ensueno which he sung with Monseratte. He found out he had full blown AIDS in April 87 while working on the Barcelona Album. He continued to work and record up until around May 91... Mother love was the very last song recorded with Freddie.. he became too ill to record and died in November 24th 1991. Brian had to sing the last verse.. Made in Heaven album was released in 1995. John left the band in 1997.

And that' s a pity because he was an great bass player. Despite of this, he made me become a hobby bass player, because he created lots of magnificent bass lines, which are significant for the songs. I just name the three most famous ones: Another one bites the dust, under pressure (you certainly have heard them before) and a ind of magic (very good live version, live at wembley), I strongly recommend to hear at least one of them in the next time.

Love your reaction ❤️ Queen tended to do their songs quicker at their live concerts than what is on the albums xJohn Deacon the bass player was last to join the band & he was only 19 so took a while to settle in but everyone says that he was Queens secret weapon liked to dance (dancing Deaky) wrote some amazing songs & is a fantastic bass player ❤️ you can pause & go back with Roger anytime love Roger ❤️ Drowse,Tenement Funster, More of that Jazz, Fight From the Inside, Rock It (Prime Jive) are just a few of the songs he sings lead on don’t think there are any live videos of him singing these so you would have to do the official lyric videos if you want to react to them x Freddie is looking back happy coz Roger is working harder than him for a change 😂they are an amazing band very tight & supportive of each other ❤️ there is a commentary of Roger & Brian for the whole of this concert it’s very funny great to hear what they have to say x

I love how near the end of the commentary by Roger and Brian, Brian says "Deaky should be here". My favorite John song is Need Your Loving Tonight.

Not requesting a reaction, but since you mentioned his sneakers, you'll want to check out Run-DMC ft. Aerosmith (Walk This Way).
