Yeah, i have not seen any GPS that did not say "Always obey the rules of the road, over the instructions given by this GPS". GPS is a guideance, but you still need to drive according to the rules. If you drive only by what the GPS says, you will be in trouble, as the GPS does not know a lot of things. The best way to know just how poorly a GPS is actually guiding you is to use it on a trip, in an area you know well.
