Changgu is the busiest & one of the most expensive places in Bali!! Sanur is cheaper & quieter. Up north Singaraja, Lovina, halfway between south & north is Candidasa. Good luck with your travels

Oh 100% I agree! And I’ve been to all of those other places and they’re just not quite built up enough to be somewhere that attract me as a place to live - as a westerner I still like my Western comforts and convenience so I’d be looking for something less busy than Canggu but more busy than he places you’ve mentioned. The only other place I’m attracted to is Uluwatu but the location on the Bukit is inconvenient when trying to reach other parts of the island!

Have you considered other cities in Indonesia as well? Because Bali is not the only digital nomad hub in Indonesia. There are other digital nomad hubs, such as lombok, jakarta or jogjakarta. And I think the best one has to be Jakarta. Because even though the traffic can be a bit of a nightmare, but the public transport system there is amongst the best in Asia. There's MRT/subway, LRT, BRT, airport train, and high speed train (to be launched next month), and of course gojek. Jakarta is way cheaper than Bali, you can find all kinds of food from around the world, malls, awesome cafes, tourist spots and even beautiful white sandy beaches and coral reefs that you can find in the Thousand Islands (north jakarta), because Jakarta is the only capital city in southeast asia that has beautiful islands with beautiful white sandy beaches and good place for snorkeling. You should check it out 👍

It definitely somewhere I wouldn’t mind checking out in the future! However it’ll have to be soon because Jakarta is moving to Borneo because it’s sinking 🙃

i've been in jakarta for over a week, where are those beautiful white sandy beaches you speak of? traffic is worse than in Manila and it takes forever to go from one place to another... which makes many parts of the city not much accessible because you need a lot of time... but yes its much cheaper than bali. bali is a white people's playground..

Problem #1 "Canggu is the only place I'd want to live (in Bali)." Problem #2 "It's not nice." I agree with you on problem #2, which begs the question, why you'd be so insistent on living where it's not nice according to your own standards. I've lived in Bali for 2 years, and I can honestly say that Canggu is the absolute last place I'd want to live in Bali, if not anywhere. It's a nightmare that people voluntarily flock to, only to discover it's a nightmare. Where I live in Bali is beautiful, peacefeul, inexpensive (1/5th the cost of Canggu for literally everything), and uncrowded (beaches and massive rice fields often completely to myself). It also allows provision in my budget to travel from here using Bali as my base. But, you won't find many expats or digital nomads where I live since they're all flocking to, well, Canggu. Recommendation: Go where it's nice, wherever you happen to be on the globe, instead if cramming in to where the flock is. This will serve you well in your travels, but may not sink in until you're 35'ish.
@RyanLeeBanks Жыл бұрын
The reason I’d only want to live in Canggu is because I’m a community driven person and I also enjoy my western comforts and do not want to give them up. All of my friends live in Canggu, Canggu offers great local and western food and it’s situated perfectly on the island to travel to other areas of Bali from. Alternatively I would love to live in Uluwatu but unfortunately the location on the island is not good (having to pass through DPS every time I want to travel somewhere else). Canggu was great two+ years ago, awesome community, not many tourists as there’s actually nothing to do there apart from surf and eat, not too busy. But now the “Canggu” hype of the name has gotten out and tourists want to visit there constantly making it soooo busy
@skranz7790 Жыл бұрын
@@RyanLeeBanks Exactly. Like I said, I have everything here where I live, plus more, that Canggu has to offer but at a far lower cost. Including places that serve Western food. As well, I can put myself through the pain of going to Canngu with a short drive for me to get there, mostly through quiet village roads until I get to Pererenan close to Canggu, and then all hell breaks loose for a couple more hair-raising kilometers. By the way, there is "community" found in Bali in many many places outside of Canggu. Canggu is a "see and be seen" place, that has zero appel to me, since seeing and being seen are irrelevant to my outlook. But, yes, I have many friends in Canggu as well, by whom I'm often perplexed by their tolerance for stress and pain. I do also remember during the pendemic, before things returned back to normal in Canggu. I could actually deal with it back then. But, those times are now long in the past.

Yeah that doesn’t surprise me with the direction that Bali has been going for the last 12 months, unfortunately for people that travel long-term and like to stay in places for an extended period of time, Bali just isn’t that fun or magical of a place anymore. Yes it has its areas for sure, but for a lot of nomads the negatives currently outweigh the positives. But I think eventually the tourists bubble will burst and prices will go back down, the island will slowly decrease in tourist population and eventually people get go back there again😁

I never said Canggu was the best of Bali, it most certainly isn’t, but there isn’t anywhere else on the island I would like to live 🙃 An expensive Bali doesn’t support locals, yes it reduces backpackers which just means less tourism money for locals, and it also makes things more expensive for locals too who can’t afford what tourists pay. A more expensive Bali is worse for locals.
