Great video, and a great idea for a model. I think using it as a Scenario piece makes a lot of sense, where the Gondorians would need to try and kill the crew before it knocks through the gate over a particular amount of turns and your Mordor player would need to defend it! Looking forward to seeing the continuation!

This project reminded me of a White Dwarf battlereport for the 25th anniversary for Warhammer Fantasy. I think it was called the Siege of Wolfenburg. It featured an Orc & Goblins army assaulting a fortress with the help of a giant, custom built battering ram / siege engine called 'Big Gork'. And the idea was that it was so massive that the defenders couldn't actually destroy it. But you could still attack and put wounds on it; and when it reached the gates, the attacker would roll a bunch of dice to smash down the defenses - but would suffer a penalty for every wound the ram suffered during the assault, and if it failed to break the gates the ram would be destroyed in the attempt - crumbling apart under the force of the impact. I thought it was a really neat gimmick.

a scenario that could be cool would be an ambush. Like a force of Rangers of Ithilien trapped behind the lines manage to intercept grond as it travels through Ithilien on its way to Minas Tirith and knowing they are surrounded and doomed anyway desperately try to destroy it in transit with only light escort. And the goal of the grond player would just be to move it from one side of the board to the other without it being destroyed

I think the reason they never made Grond (GROND! GROND! GROND!) is because it would be a huge model with vanishingly few use cases. The rule set for the game is awesome and really lends itself to a load of scenarios but sieges are very rarely played. Even just casually playing it would take a good deal of set up to make it fun and balanced, over just throwing together an assortment of scenery and picking a scenario from the book. That aside it’s awesome to see you build your own and hopefully some homebrewed narrative matches will see it come to life on the tabletop.
