I love off roading, and used to really love doing snow recovery out in the mountains. But that has changed over time and last winter I found myself dreading going out on every job. Between the demands from customers who knew that I helped people for free and that that meant I was OBLIGATED to help them out as well, and the demands from viewers of the channel for more track content because that’s the only reason they watch, I found myself really resenting the snow recovery and wanting nothing to do with it.
Because the simple fact is that the tracks are a pain in the ass and are NOT fun. Sure they look cool and all, but they are rough, loud, slow, expansive to maintain, and absolutely destroy the vehicle you bolt them to. On top of that, I have no actual need for tracks to do the recovery jobs I do. I was only running them because I thought they did good on KZbin.
I built the snow recovery up into something that was a such a hassle to do, and so much more work than necessary, that I was just completely over it and turned down pretty much every off road call I got this winter. So I’m making some changes and going back to how I did it when it was fun and something I actually enjoyed doing it. If people like that, good! If people don’t like that, well that’s good to. I’m going to do what works for me and that’s all I’m going to worry about.

I like seeing how you make the recovery with what I would potentially have in my garage and driveway. As my brother always said “You aren’t stuck until you have to call for help”. Watching the simple stuff helps people like me know when I might be inconvenienced by my road chose and when I should pack it in and call for help.

Haven't even watched the video yet, but in case I can't find that comment any more later: the first video I watched on this channel was the U-Haul truck that was stranded because of a loose oil filter - when Casey said something along the lines of "I'm not going to tow this vehicle halfway across the state, I'll just screw the filter on and go buy a few quarts of oil - because _I don't like to screw my customers over"_ was when I subscribed, because I liked that attitude.

Impressive that you were able to differentiate between 'best for the channel' and 'best for you and your company' and make the decision in favor of you and the company. I think your best videos are the ones where you are clearly having fun, being honest abut life and stuff, and enjoying what you are doing. Also the ones where you are explaining the how and why of your recoveries and the kit that you use. There are plenty of other channels where there is a lot of noise, action over sized kit, etc. and it is refreshing to see a recovery being done with a simple vehicle and your knowledge and skill. That's what keeps me here.

Casey, you would do well to remember the old adage of: you can please some of the people all the time and all of the people some of the time, but you cannot please all the people all the time. That still goes out the window when doing the offroad stuff weighs and takes a heavy toll on your stress levels. You need to do what is best for not only you but for your business, and if people stop watching well that’s too bad for them cause they will miss out on your awesome videos. Videos that I for one heavily enjoy.

Casey the reason I will be a life long fan and subscriber is because you are real and honest. You think outside the box and prove that regular people can do recoveries without top notch expensive equipment. The way i look at it with having to trailer the track truck that was costing you more money because you had to make and have gas for the truck pulling the trailer and the track truck. I enjoy the old school style recoveries after all being creative and thinking outside the box is something you do quite well

Down here in the valley, have numerous family, neighbors all around you over there. In fact I’m hoping someday you have rescue my sister. She just moved over there and was complaining about having to go to work with all the snow. She too is from the valley. So, a hint of snow and EVERYTHING SHUTS DOWN. Love your stuff.

I really don't remember what the first video was that I watched, but I joined and watch steadily because I enjoy watching you in action, and I love the scenery that you take us along to see. I totally understand and agree with you about people having the impression that you "HAVE" to come do a recovery/tow - especially when you are doing them out of your desire to be a better person and spread that mantra. To be totally honest, some of the best videos are the ones with your friends and the sketchy situations you find yourselves in (thinking of you, Nate, and the scissor lift, or with the "bench clean in a can"), and now with Ethan while you are using the Zacklift to do your regular tow jobs. In the end, it's CHR, and I for one totally enjoy the different situations you encounter with your heavy rescue setup and would watch them any day! Then the added benefit of your Patreon efforts (such as paying for the couple that lost their wheel), and I'll keep being a subscriber. I do think we need more Riley Cam though - she's quite the camera operator/cheerleader 😁 I've stated this before - you do what Casey needs, and we'll keep following you!!

I think its fun to watch you anytime your doing recoveries. It gives me a chance to enjoy the snow without being out in it. Thank you for your videos.

Eff the "tracks"! I am here for Casey and NO ONE else. Love the POV-type videos. The only commentary I want to hear is Casey... For whatever it's worth.

I personally really enjoy watching you use open differential trucks with tires. I learn new tricks that help me with snow travel and self-recovery in my open differential 4x4.

The tracks are what initially grabbed my attention for the channel, but luckily for you the occasional Rusty cameo is enough to keep me coming back for each video.

YOU are why I watch. The last auction video was one of my favorites and it had nothing to do with towing. I will say the first time I watched was because of the track jeep. Makes total sense why you sold them. Keep up the great content.

Matt's Off Road Recovery used to be like you. It was Matt and his vehicle. Now it is a production and he takes so many people to do the job. I like your new format. Keep it up.

Tracks were cool, but definitely more time spent loading and unloading than on recovery. To be able to keep doing what your doing it first of all needs to be fun. Staying right here for more fun and adventures.

Now my point of view differs because i work in the towing industry where as most of your viewers likely do not, So for me I watch for the diversity of videos where I can see some of the offroad stuff that I don't typically deal with, I don't have mountains and bad winters, etc so that's all new to me and interesting to see every once in a while but I am also watching for the heavy wecker and all that good stuff as you can always learn from other people with differing methods and I like watching those videos as well as I can learn a lot even though I do that work myself. But I appreciate the diversity, anyone who watches specifically for one thing isn't doing your channel much good in the grand scheme of things anyway unless you specifically do those videos, otherwise they are just a drop in the bucket watching a few of your many videos. I think the diversity is what makes your channel, or any channel watchable over the long term.

Long time lurker here: I was first attracted to this channel seeing crazy recoveries. I only saw the tracked videos later, and thought it was fun to watch, but wasn't a big deal for me. I really enjoy Casy's personality, and of course the side characters are always fun! You do you, and I'll keep enjoying!

I figured with a full winter with very little snow you might rethink the tracks! There a fun novelty and possibly a good business investment for remote cell tower repair companies! But for a heavy rescue company that only uses them a handful of times that’s a lot of initial investment and future maintenance costs!

I enjoy your content just fine. I like the tow jobs with the big wrecker and I enjoy snow recoveries too. The tracks were a novelty that weren't really needed and I absolutely agree with you that they needed to go. If you don't enjoy what you're doing, then why do it. I'm not going anywhere.

Business is business, sometimes you have to do what's best for you. I enjoy the recoveries, tracks or no. Having spent 20 years in the Army and National Guard (operating every recovery vehicle the Army had, tracked and wheeled), tracks can be overrated. Keep up the great work!!!

My story: In the early 1960's I had a WW2 Ex-Mil ambulance that I 'upgraded' a bit - V8 +,+.. I lived in SoCal and my buddies and I would go out into the Death Valley area whenever we could. I did about 5 or 6 'well stuck' recoveries that happened after gully washers and that was worth the efforts in keeping the beast running. Keep up the great work and outreach! At 86 years old, all I can do now is watch and dream!
