Dont' forget about your local library, not just local bookstores. They're often really happy to host a signing for local authors! Just go in and tell them you're a local author who has a book coming out, and they'll often order the book and front it up, and organise a launch thing. Librarians love having local authors they can get in to talk to folks, especially when they're doing kids events.

Usually indie authors have to say their book is in a really obscure sub genre on amazon to be able to brag about being in the top ten of something. You've got that for every book they sell at Barnes and Noble! Congratulations! You are right to never let that go, it's something to brag about for the rest of your life. Just don't do a Howard Wolowitz going to space level of bragging, and you'll be fine.

Jill, in regards to author events, you're going to want to have a one-sheet. This is a piece of paper with all of your book's information on it. There are templates online. Give that to the manager. For people who don't live in your area, you could do book plates. These are essentially a sticker with a signature on it. You can either hand-write them (more personal) or use a printer (less time). Oh, and an un-fun truth. Ingram might print more books than it actually needs. Those show up as returns a year after the book was published. "Return and destroy" is the most practical returns method -- they'll charge you shipping costs for books if you pick "send back".

Hello. Back in the day, when I worked at a national US book chain, we hosted countless self-published authors (and authors published by houses who had PR departments too small to promote anyone but their 'A-list' authors) who would take time to call bookstores, introduce themselves, and ask if we would be interested in having them. One author (who was not self-published) told me that whenever she had a new book out, she would map out the bookstores in the region and take 2-3 days to just make calls to gauge interest, then plot out a few day trips, Usually, once we set up the event, we would need 1 - 2 weeks to order the extra books to have them available for the author's event. I hope you do someday have time and resources to come to the US.

Also, a friend of mine self-published, and held an event at a local cafe. Packed out with his friends, so the cafe liked it, made him feel a little easier, and made people want to know more. He was a regular at the cafe, and it was a larger place but an option. And it would be remiss of me not to mention that the book signing was for "Falafel the Cat", by Steve Guntrip. The cafe was Flirt, in Bournemouth. 🙂

BUT...the fact that you are a Barnes and Noble Best Selling Author who has been at number one for a few hours...is even MORE impressive! = ) Oh! And process for getting a book signing event: Walk into said bookstore and ask..."Who do I speak to about arranging a book signing event?" You don't even have to mention the Barnes and Noble thing. Sometime they have various levels of events for various price ranges depending on if they are able to provide snacks there may even be CHEESE) and how much promotion they do for it. AND if the you have the evening to yourself and not have to share with another author.

Having worked at a large B&N college bookstore, as far as local bookstores go; even a large spot like waterstones; they probably have an employee on site who handles author events. Sure, big events get passed down from corporate, but as an author if you want to set up an event at a local shop be it Waterstones or an indy shop, your best bet is probably to walk in and introduce yourself and they should refer you to whoever handles events. If on your patreon or via other communications, you have an idea of a minimum number of people who confirm they want to show up, that can only help them make sure to get a good chunk of copies ordered in advance. Bookstores also do appreciate being able to label books as from local authors or anything else that can help them generate interest.

Hi! I write for a small press in NY, so I also do most of my own PR, including author events. My local B&N sells my books on consignment and I'm doing a book signing in Feb. I made up a folder with some of my give away bookmarks, a copy of the flyer for my latest library event, and a business card. I went to the customer service desk and asked for the person in charge of author events. (I'm guessing Waterstone's works similarly) For a local shop you'd probably speak to the owner. I'm not sure how libraries work in the UK, but I spoke to the branch manager at my local library.

Ingram might be distributing it through the Chapters Indigo bookstore. Don't be surprised if the listing is missing a cover. Ingram and chapters have problems talking to each other sometimes. Most independent bookstores use Ingram for distribution too.

You deserve all the accolades for your hard work. And it's usually as simple as just mailing them and asking about it. I'm certain they will gladly explain it further and make arrangements. Libraries and other public venues might also be an option. I'm personally waiting for the audibook but also considering getting a physical one just to have it next to my other best sellers on my bookshelf. They're just for show now that I can't really read more than a paragraph or two. Chronic illnesses suck. But you'll be in good company with John Green, Jane Austen and Douglas Adams.

With regard to getting this title into libraries, many public libraries in the US are able to order through Amazon or other commercial outlets. Please suggest this title for consideration, which may be possible through your library's web site. To make it easier for library staff include title, author, publication date, and ISBN in the request. (Yes, I work for a public library, albeit not as a librarian.)

As a Brit who can't drive I'd love to come to a "Meet the Author," or book signing event but alas I can't drive, so unless you decide to swing by Nottingham (we have a 5 storey tall Waterstones, it's amazing) then I'm sad that I'd probably have to miss such an event if you do decide to do one in the future. Just as you did the REST of "the thing" on your own, after delivery of the book happens, hold a VIRTUAL book signing event on KZbin. Everyone sits at their computer with their copy of the book and YOU tell them what to write. The benefit is that, no matter WHEN they get a copy of the book, they can just jump onto KZbin and partake in the signing event! One moment of time invested by you - a LIFETIME of signings for your fanbase! Congratulations on BEST SELLER!

Honestly, the most surprising part of all of this (to me, anyway) is the mention of Amazon Mexico and realizing that you have a nonzero amount of Mexican followers. Like, I mean, I know that this channel's topics are niche, and statistically there HAS to be people from my country with the same interests on these topics, but there's a humongous difference between knowing something on an abstract level and suddenly realizing "hey, this is a thing that's happening!". I can't advise, since the only signed book I have was delivered personally. a case of knowing the right people at the right time, which makes me feel special. the overseas option I see would be having copies in hand to ship out through the merch shop, which would require overseas shipping.

I've done three or four events that way, one of them in the back of a consignment shop :) sold 20 copies that day... only four of which were to my dad

I've seen smaller author events in Canada at indigo/chapters and the events are so small I can only imagine they asked the manager and sorted it out low key like that. I figure just show up to the location you'd want to do it at and ask to talk to the manager.

It's actually quite easy to organize it. Just email to them saying who you are, what books you have published, what book you would like to make a presentation/signing of, a synopsis of the book, why you would love to have an event at their place, and also tag your social media/website (like a brief note either in the beginning or at the end, such as, "you can learn more about me here"). Wish you good luck :)
