Glad to hear you are doing better. You have been dealing with some of the heaviest stuff we men have to deal with. Speaking as somebody who went through a very similar situation, I understand how it makes you question everything about yourself. It'll push you right up to that edge, I'm glad you have got the help you needed to walk back from that edge.

Hello Cpt, I have only recently discovered your channel and have really enjoyed the content. After watching this video, I just have to let you know that you are not alone, mental health is something that I have struggled with for decades. So I applaud you for your openness about it, not an easy thing to accomplish. Please keep making content, it was your vids on YT that brought me back to the game after I took time away to deal with the stuff in my head. I thank you for that 👍

I just started playing EVE about 4 weeks ago, and I have watched SO MANY of your videos learning how to play. Loving EVE so much & couldn't have done it without you ♥ Seriously brother, congrats on being determined enough to make it through the storm. It takes some serious grit to remove yourself from that situation and then accomplish what you did in therapy. It will be the best gift you ever give yourself because that mental and emotional power you fought hard to earn will last your lifetime. I used to feel ashamed of my battle with mental health, but I came to realize that gaining the upper hand against it is a Herculean feat deserving of your unconditional pride. If your experience is anything like my own, this all leads to you becoming a better version of yourself than you could have ever imagined before the storm began. Congrats again 💪

Wow Benzie, I just started playing Eve like 1 week ago, your videos have helped me a ton, all from wh scanning and explanation, to ship fits and abyssals! I really love your content, and I am saddened to hear about your mental issues, as I am going through some tough thoughts and some health problems myself. I applaud that you are open about this, we need more focus on mental health issues and we are topping all the statistics, and not in a good way I am sorry to say. I just turned 40 and and been through some ups and downs, and all i can say is that it gets better with time, your situation might not be the greatest right now to say the least, it will get better! You seem to have the right mindset and enthusiasm to keep fighting! Great video, and tbh i teared up a bit there.

I'm glad to hear you're better. I have had similar problems in my life related to my Autism diagnosis. It has proven to be a career killer here in Canada. There is an experience called Autistic Burnout. It sounds like what you experienced. I actually lost life skills when mine happened about 8 years ago. I've been unemployed since. The added cross-border/continent employment complications are soul crushing. I live in Canada and tried to get jobs in my field (Astronomy and Astrophysics) in the USA. Given the current state of things, that is virtually impossible so I am generally familiar with how crappy cross-border job hunts can be. Does the UK not have state benefits for Disability? I am somewhat lucky that my province does and that with the generosity of my partner and parents (with whom I lived 6 of the last 8 years) I can get by. I cannot offer material support but I do wish with all my heart I could. And share your videos with my EVE friends. Cheers!
@captainbenzie2 ай бұрын
I'm AuDHD and the burnout has been real 😅 UK benefits have been gutted over the years. I can't claim Job Seekers because I have AN income (however small) and Autism/ADHD aren't supported as disabilities. Even then, I'd need an NHS diagnosis which is a seven year waitlist.

I got the eve bug bite again after many years, just started a new account figuring I'd bounce away, and instead I've dragged 2 or 3 friends into it at least in the short term. I've basically been binging your videos just to remind myself how eve kind of works. So thanks for being a fun, informative, kind voice and source. If you wanted a deeper content suggestion, on the important 14 skills stuff, outlining good times in your skilling to pause and work on them might be an excellent fairly short but valuable video? Such as when you get to cruisers is a good time to pause and grind up isk, faction rep, whatever while powergrid and cpu skills cook in the background so you can do the kind of fit you actually want on your first battlecruisers, etc. ? Or if covops ships are an eventual goal, then before you get their minimum requirements you really need X skills to actually fit them well, so that's a good moment to let some of the 14 cook, etc.

So I am a eve veteran, have been suscribed for a long time and I want to say that for some reason, I have found that the eve community is kinda harsh and trollish, but also very understanding of these issues. Many of the players have problems in real life, we can sense that through their voice, or how they act in game, its really not that rare to see in the this game. has happened with me and most of the poeple I fly with. I for one am always here to help ANYONE on a personal level but I WILL blow your ship up if I can. In true eve fashion, when I lost my job back 3 years ago I told my corporation friends about it and one gave me the tip that basically saved me from depression: turn "search for a job into a job itself". Wake up early, shower, eat, then sit in your chair from 9 to 12 searching and applying for jobs. Then stop, to lunch, have a break, start searching again from 1 to 5 in the afternoon and... Stop searching. That kept me into my old routine, I felt I was achieving something and gave me the balance of "work / free" time that I needed... I got a new job in about a week after I started doing this ❤ I hope this helps you as much as it helped me
@kr4ftt3 ай бұрын
I know every person is different and this tip may not help you at all, but if you could at least look into it, maybe mold into your own needs, your own reality, maybe then you can mark it work 😊
@captainbenzie3 ай бұрын
Thank you for the advice. Sadly, this is what I was doing and it, in itself, was destroying me. Now, I'm still looking for work and applying, but at a more relaxed pace whilst also heading out busking and singing shanties in the streets. It's giving me joy, bringing in money, and can be worked around applications etc.

I'm sorry to hear you've had a hard time. You spoke of it a little when I met you in Canterbury, but yeah, that's rough. My solution to burn out is just mixing up the games I play. So for you, maybe do a poll of games you'd like to do videos on and then see what people vote for. This may also help with building up an audience as you'd have a broader library of content. Also, when you're doing your shanty singing, you may be able to perform on stage at comic con events or anime/gaming league events. I'm not sure on how it all works, so would require a bit of research. But it's a good way to promote yourself and let new people discover who you are. And there's the benefit of attending the events too. One final thing, could you tell me the name of your other chanel so I may subscribe there too? 👨🚀🏴☠️

Thanks for sharing! The Algorythm seems to be with you since this did pop up for me, so that should make it a little easier for you to get back into the swing of making videos. I'm sorry you had to go through that dark path, but I'm glad you came out on the other side. Keep that up! 👍

There comes a time in a man's life when everything comes to a head. All your life that you have lived until that point is consumed to make space for a new life. Its not easy. I've been at this for a few years now with ups and downs and I hope for you will be easier. But to be honest. nothing like this comes easy. So hang in there, learn who you are and make the distinction between you, and what other people told you about who you are. Not easy, but i guess its better than the alternative. Cheers

That's a really interesting way of looking at it. The Old has to be torn down into raw material for the New. I like that.

Mental Health issues are tough to deal with. And tougher to overcome. I found last year just allowing myself to accept i needed help worked wonders, then talking to others and telling about my journey and experience was the medicine i needed. My only advice would be Keep talking to people about how you feel. Good job, and you wont believe how much of a positive impact this video would have on someone else going through their own issues. EXCELLENT JOB! Im staying tuned and hoping for updates on how you get on!

I can only hope that it perhaps helps others. Otherwise, I have no qualms talking about it, I agree that, men especially, need to talk about mental health more. Thank you so much for your kind words and support!!

@captainbenzie it will have an impact. If just 1 person watches the video and it comvinces them to reach out and talk then that would be an amazing outcome. Good job and Keep talking!

Thank you for sharing. I had a painful divorce that left me broke in more ways than one. That was a few years ago and I’m now happier than I ever. I’d be happier still if you shared a video of the sea shanties
