She's put her business equal to or above her husband. She wants it to be a 3-way partnership, except she gets 2 of the votes (as she's continually comingled funds with her business). He should veto that. If he was a businessman, he'd probably tell her to separate finances with the business and put up a barrier between it and her business. That's a difficult wall to rebuild. She already put in the starting capital, sounds like she's taken a whole lot of paycuts and additional reinvestments and took on additional debts to make ends meet on that side, she needs to make this business run on its own first and foremost. When it's a stable entity not part of their household/personal funds, then it's a different conversation. If you made good money and want to reinvest, you can sit down and have a financial conversation about goals and plans and risks of investing some money you already paid yourself back into the business, with the goal of getting the business to be more profitable long-term. Otherwise in being a wise entrepreneur, she needs to repay the company's debts and stack up some additional money to make the next big move, perhaps to hire one or more employees to help increase the business's revenues and profits. The baby steps work in sequence. $1000 starter emergency fund. Repay your debts, every nickel! Then move onto rebuilding the (probably 6-month) emergency fund and investing for retirement. Unless your business can run on its own, you can't retire with it. That means getting it to a place that you have multiple stable employees and a decision-making structure that runs independently of you. And regardless of if that's the plan, you should be planning your retirement with a diverse pool of funds no matter what happens to the business.

It was Dave who stayed on that track of if your husband isn’t in it, then you’re going to fail. It’s clear that this woman and her husband have financial infidelity issues, but absent of getting all the details about what’s really going on, not sure why Dave either didn’t give her the solo advice or tell her we don’t advise married people on how to live a single financial life and let her go. The problem with combining finances is that many women won't make as much effort to make money due to wanting time off to be at home with children, not wanting to wok as many hours or not being prepared to work in certain jobs so men have to bring in the majority of cash. The women who DO bring in more money almost always want to separate finances and have prenups and I don't blame them. It'd be annoying to have a partner that doesn't pull their weight.

Now, don't get me wrong, but this works great for us and has been working for over 13 years. Now with that being said, my name is on all his accounts and his name is on mine. We also have a joint savings account where we both contribute to it every month. This account is for what we want to do together. Such things are vacations, house repairs, and other goals we want to accomplish together.
