2003 vette takes me back. When I was in middle and high school (98-05) my dad was really big into vettes, he still has 2 C5's a 98 and a 04. The 98 puts over 1000hp to the wheels, he used to bracket race it. I was 16 and 17 years old driving a 44ft goose neck on the back of an f350 all over the country with him.. 1 man pit crew I called myself lol.. Now it just sits in a trailer rotting, waiting for me to revive it one day. We went to Bowling green sometimes 2 and 3 times a year and always went to Carlisle for shows. My sister even got a brief modeling job with an exhaust company and my dad a distributor deal with a few companies. I've seen so many anniversary models get chopped up and abused.. it's nice to see this one in such good condition, minus missing the original wheels. I'll be honest though, I never really liked them, I always thought the magnetic red was a muuuuuch better red than the anniversary red and I never liked the tan interior or tops.. The tops are impossible to keep clean if you don't have a garage. The corvette world is like a big family and you see a lot of the same people at shows all over the country, it's possible I ran into the original owner of that vette in passing if he was into the show scene. Over the last 10 years or so we fell out of the car world, which is a shame, I really miss a lot of it but you gotta have big money to play with vettes, which I don't have lol

Yes, on Sunday or at 2am when your bank would be closed too, and you don’t need permission from anyone to do so. It’s the shit. I'm in somewhat the same business but instead of luxury high end automobiles I trade/sell high end luxury hifi systems & electronics where a single pair of speakers can run over $1milliom dollars ,or a $75,000 CD player etc ,quite often I purchase the hifi equipment from the widows of deceased audiophiles and the wives don't really know all that much except her husband spent $2.3 million dollars on a stereo system . I've had deals where I show up to people's homes with $200,000 in cash where the deal fell thru because I allow them to see the 357 Colt Python on my hip ,I've had people freak out & claim my cash was counterfeit, I've also had my bank refuse to give me $75,000 in cash that day so I asked to be let into my safe deposit box ,I took the $75k from my box and the assistant manager pulled me aside & said the manager was calling the head bank to get a warrant to search & seize the contents of my 2 safe deposit boxes because she believed i was stashing drug money ,i emptied both boxes and left the bank with money stuffed everywhere ,I didn't make it in my noise before cops were in my driveway yelling at me to " come here now ! " ,since I was already at my door I went inside and dumped all my cash and took my sidearm out of its holster & set it down ,when I came out of the house it was to 2 cops with guns drawn ,after the search & shakedown the cops demanded to know how much money I had & what I did with it ,knowing they'd seize it and make me spend years in court I told them that I took no money from my deposit boxes and it was real estate paperwork I took ,after bringing a drug dog tonsnif my car they had to let me go & I put the cash in my safe ,1st thing 9am the next morning I went to my bank and closed out my corporate account and turned in my remaining checks and closed my personal checking accounts down to $5 each ,that morning I withdrew over $3 million dollars in cashier's checks and the bank manager had the nerve to ask if I was unhappy with Bank One ,stupid bitch knew I had a cash turnover rate of atleast $300,000 a month in my business account yet called police on me in hopes of stealing my life's savings from the safe deposit boxes . Words of warning to those who aren't aware ,it's illegal to keep any cash or legal tender in any safe deposit box ,and if the bank audits their boxes ,which they do ,in that event they will legally seize 100% of your money no matter how much proof you show that you legally earned the money .

Actually, law enforcement (in states that allow asset forfeiture) does not have to charge you with a crime but instead, charge the asset that they confiscate ie san antonio vs $4000. This puts the onus on the owner to prove the asset was not a product of criminal activity. isnt the law "innocent until proven guilty", dont they have to prove that the money is not yours?
@jimd19446 жыл бұрын
Erik: Ultimately, Yes. However, they can still charge you (or your assets) with a crime and then, you must hire a lawyer and go to court. Yes, then the State must "prove" you, or in this case, your assets, were a product of illegal activity. However, the state has unlimited resources ... Do you? . For most people it is not worth it as it would cost more than the asset taken. However, in many cases where someone does fight, they often win (at large cost). Often (especially with IRS), when you complain and file, they will make an offer to return SOME of your money.

well it is slightly suspicious to jump from one bank to another like that and a lot of fraud happens from people ripping off multiple branches in a given day. Although they should've given him a cashiers check at least.

Aaron Harrison or just verified the transaction and given him his money! If you are incapable of doing that, after 20+ minutes of deliberation, you don't deserve to stay open as a bank.
@ah70276 жыл бұрын
the other issue is most banks only receive money once a week so had they given him that cash it would've left them short on cash until their next shipment. that's why you typically have to order larger amounts of cash ahead of time. So I can see why they wouldn't want to give him cash however a not giving him a cashiers check still seems odd. I mean I guess it was at the discretion of the employees but ya I do agree they should have given him at least the check.

One day I was browsing the Thrifty Nickel in Mena AR and saw an ad for "65 chevy, $500" with a number. I thought about calling but decided against it, it was probably a field car grown up in brambles or some such. A few weeks later I was telling a buddy (he ran the local music store) about it and he said he'd seen it too and was of the same mindset as I was so he didn't call about it but one of his customers had and it was a 1965 Corvette. In fact it was a 1965 Corvette that had been in storage in a barn since 1967 when the lady who owned it stored it for her son when he shipped off to Vietnam. Needless to say, she lost her son. When they stored the car, her husband put it up on blocks, drained all the fluids and every six months would fill it with oil, water and put a gallon of gas in the tank throw a battery in it and start it up and run it dry then drain everything back out to keep the seals soft and keep it functional. He did this until he passed away. Her brother took over and did the same thing for about ten years until it was beyond him so she decided to sell the car. The guy that ended up with it filled it with fluids, put the tires on it, aired them up, put a battery in it and drove it home. Had under 2000 miles on it IIRC. He was filling the tank at the local gas station and had two or three cash offers of 20 to 30 grand for it as it sat. He turned them down. This was in 1995. Last I'd heard he still had it, that was in '05 but I'd like to think he's still driving it today.

This is why I am seriously considering keeping all my money in cash, or at least 90%. Especially since banks are legally allowed to invest out more money than they have, meaning part of YOUR money is out in investments and should a bunch of people go to withdraw their money all at once they wont even have it! There is federal insurance but if the bank run is because of an economy crash then good luck getting it from the government if they don't have it.

But that would close his accounts at the good branch too. Former bank employee here. Bank employees always love it when some customer closes their accounts in a huff. Especially when it's not their banks fault. Had a bank customer go to the hospital to visit a friend on a Sunday night. He only had a dollar or two on him, figuring he'd get cash for a cab at the hospital. The ATM, which belonged to another bank, was down and it was after the other bank's service hours (their ATM was on our network, so we were responsible for calling in problems.) He was very p***** that HIS bank wouldn't come out and fix someone else's ATM. He eventually borrowed some money from the hospital chaplain for his cab. Came in first thing Monday morning and closed his accounts. We later found out he opened accounts with the bank that had the broken ATM. WTF????

My aunt, who’s a paralegal was there, and didn’t let me sign until she looked over it. In the end, yeah it’s a bit of a hassle. But I do kinda understand the bank’s side of things. Cashier's checks are written off 'internal' accounts meaning they use a different account number with a very large balance to write cashiers checks...it's to guarantee they don't bounce and they move the money from your account to either that account or another holding account. Banks don't need cash in the branch unless someone needs cash - the only thing I can say is that you should give a branch a heads up for large $5k+ cash withdrawals so they can order enough for the week. - Former PNC Employee

Like the story and it brings me to remember a story of myself back about 1973ish, I went and looked at a 1958 chev and it was pretty rotted, its was not a vette for sure' so I was always looking in the local paper for a cheap car or my 1st ride..after a few weeks I came across an ad that read, 57 chevy for sale, $300.00..now me thinking about that 58 with all the rot I did'nt bother going and looking, I grew up across from a salvage yard and I have moved back here since that time so I go over there alot ad talk with the son of the prior owner.( I worked here and it was my 1st real job) one day we were talking in the garage and another gent was there also and he was kind of telling him a story, as I stood there listening to the story I knew the story well, it was the story of the 57 chevy for $300.00 and he said he knew the guy that went and checked it out, it turned out that the owner of the chevy went to Korea and died in the war and the car had sat in the barn ever since, now it was a 57 chevy alright, but they left out the model, it was a 57 corvette that had the white wall tires it was sold with, all flat of course, now this happen around 73ish, so he went and looked and seen it was a vette and gave the woman $1,000.00 for the car..how do you think I feel about that day even to this day, maybe some day I will tell of a jag that was up the street and I think it was a 1960, it was a car I had seen for many yrs growing up, infact" it was same story except it was Vietnam for this owner that never came back, well I guess I will say because it is not long, that was a jag and as I said I always seen it growing up as a kid..well" one day I was next door visiting and I could hear a loud engine roaring down the road as it got closer I seen it was that jag and my relatives were driving this thing down the rr tracks, lol funniest thing I had ever seen, they both had so much dust on their faces, I did feel real sorry for the jag, I knew no good was going to come of it, I never seen the car again, and if I knew more of the car I could say a def yr, but it had headlights on the front fenders, sort of teardroped back towards the rear, had a beautiful grill and the doors sort of curved from the w/s post downward towards the door jam and a rooled trunklid curved towards back bumper, I guess me saying 60 is a wild guess and it may have been older, this yard I worked at for 1st job had many cars that even I wish were still around, nomads,edsels 56 buick specials, you never knew how good cars were made until you had a car from that era...in the end, my 1st car was a 1961 impala 4dr..

Most bank branches don't carry more than 50k at any one time, and that's in large cities. I bet that bank you went to had less than 20k. Also, it's against federal law for a bank to make a check for more money than it has on hand. Doesn't matter if another bank says they are sending more money. Until the bank you're at gets the money, they can't give it.

I've had the same problem with my bank when I was going to buy a Ram 2500. I went through the same thing with Chase over $150K buying some property in Colorado. You would think a bank has the cash. I was informed by the branch manager that they open up with only $8K every day and today was more withdrawals than deposits. She asked that I come back after 2PM so I said okay. Came back at 2PM, they had $10K on hand in the whole bank. I asked for a certificate of funds and a cashier check for $75K to prove I was not messing around and wanted to buy the property. She told me that is was no problem getting me the certificate of funds, but I would have to wait 5 business days for the cashiers' check or make a 4-hour drive to Denver to Chases' main Colorado bank. I told her I lived in south east Texas and that was a problem. So I called the seller explained the problems and was relived when he said he would take a promissory partial payment and would meet me at the bank and I could pay the rest later at the title company on a later date. He said he sells a lot of land in that area and that this happens a lot. He also says he doubts the mental capacity of someone who keeps $150K on them. We both laughed at that. Very frustrating to me as I had a balance of $2.4 million in savings and $229K in checking and wanted $150K of my money. I still have yet to discover why Chase cannot honor your account at other branches of there banks.

I've managed financial centers for a number of years now. A few things... 1) a cashiers check isn't backed by the funds that are on hand in the branch. That's ridiculous. It's pulled from a GL that has plenty of money in there. 2) I'm not surprised they didn't just hand the 31k over. We are always suspicious because we are trained to be that way. Anything over 10K triggers alarm bells, unless you walk into a branch you do business with regularly. 3) if it ever happens again just have them call your local branch. Get to know your manager and ask him/her if it would be okay for outlying branches to call you in the future if something like this comes up. Sorry you had a poor experience with PNC. Unfortunatly most regional banks are like this becaise they either dont actually habe the cash on hand to fulfill the order or they are worried about taking a loss because of loss prevention pressure. Big fan of your videos.

'Too good to be true' almost always the situation. Have it inspected by the make's critical dealer inspection, or run away from the majority of DEALS. Deals do exist. I got a limited edition MINI Cooper S GP edition, a four year old car at the time, with only 1200 miles on it, for about $8,000 under value. Seller was simply stupid - car was being sold as product of a messy divorce, wife got half the husband's car collection. They posted it as "MINI Cooper" - forgot to include the word GP. Nobody knew it was there. My friend was browsing randomly and clued me in. I was the only bidder and I got the car for the auction start price. Drove it all the way back from Miami to Seattle. I had a friend in Miami check out the car and the sellers and made sure everything was legit. Just like Doug's story, I didn't believe the car was real until I was driving it through Miami neighborhoods.

Few days later I got a letter stating that all my accounts will be closed at the end of the month. I talked to a friend that worked at PNC and notes on my account stated not to talk to me about anything or explain anything. Worst bank ever!!!

I work in the financial industry, what PNC did was a bit weird, I've seen branches deny transactions if they believe you are being scammed, but not so much due to money laundering concerns, there are other processes in place to handle that. Still, due to cash supply limitations it is usually a good idea to call ahead a day or two if you are taking out more than $5k or so, just to make sure the branch has enough cash on hand to handle your request
