Its insulting calling your game a GTa colne when its clearly a driver 3 clone with driver 2 graphics =P Jokes aside, i do love the style you achieved, a perfect mix of old ps1 asthetic with modern touches like better lighting and damage models

As a fellow game dev it honestly annoys me way too much when people call all open world driving, shooting games "GTA clones" or "games like GTA" because their just not. Not every game is based on GTA. Just annoying. Anyway, love the game progress so far!

Clearly this game is a GTA clone
@breadop675 ай бұрын
@@jenkims1953 May I ask how? If you really wanna say it's a "clone" of a game, wouldn't it be the DRIVER series? Car based gameplay? police? limited out of car gameplay? Still this game is a complete league of it's own. It's not a clone of anything. While it has features of games we all know it's not a clone of anything. Just watch more videos on the game.

You're using some pretty awesome tech, never knew that plugin existed for creating instanced meshes. Could be worth learning how to make more complex blueprints that use instanced meshes, for the example of the parking lot at least I think it's definitely doable, might just need a bit of work to get going. Not sure if it's entirely useful for that use-case but I'm sure something else will come up in the future. Keep up the great work, loved the video!

Unreal can already convert meshes into HISM or Intstanced static meshes. Select all the meshes and then go to merge actors. Then go to batch.

Interesting video. I like the car damage model. However I feel the parking garage piece count is over kill. It seems like most of the pieces are just cuboids without 3 faces. A single wall section could be replaced with a single cuboid with the vertices stretched to desired length and the texture could just be tiled. It might even be possible to merge the inner vertices to create a corner without needing a separate corner piece. I mostly do 3D modelling and I haven't coded any mesh generation, so take the advice with a grain of salt.

I was about to mention that you can use Packed level Instances to comfortably create prefabs and Unreal automatically batches meshes together, but I realized you are on UE4.
@MrRudiMentary8 ай бұрын
I really wonder why you couldn't just keep the laggy separate object version in another level and then convert it to 1 static mesh every time you make a change you want to put into the actual level. How often are you really going to edit the parking garage?

i guess devs back then (psx/ps2) did not have modularity. they had to think of something and make it as a single thing and if they wanted to change it they had to change the whole single thing. is that right?
@yourcommander34128 ай бұрын
I think they had modularity but it was directly merged down in the modelling package.

@yourcommander34128 ай бұрын
Always possible you'd create something that R* will eventually steal cause it improves the feel of an open world game. Rather then chasing every feature and and nuance of a triple AAA developer. Besides its all about fun in the end anyways. People just want to turn their brains off from the world and goof around for a few hours.
@dragoburnhard8 ай бұрын
would it be funnier if people called it a driver clone lol but as for instant's mesh's... not sure if your going to have the benefit you want when you expand to larger levels..... (physics acting crazy... at least it's not a BSP hole lol) as for steam page you need to be alot more along in development before a steam page to be effective...(it's very easy to get lost in the crowd of indi games right now)

not right now the single gamedev cant make a gta clone but SOON in the future all games are going to be made by one or two persons and they are going to be the masters of the machines and make the machines do all the work to accomplish their vision, then we will plug ourselves into the videogames and it will be indistinguishable from real life. it is actually going to be realer than real life. 5-10 years for that to happen tops.
