Hi Demi. I understand where you’re coming from. In my experience with burnout, I’ve realized it often comes for one primary reason: forgetting the why. Why we started our channels, why we spend time coming up with topics and selecting fragrances to share, why we sit in front of a camera and allow ourselves to be vulnerable for strangers, why we interact with viewers, brands, and other industry entities...it’s so easy to get wrapped up in the status of maintaining our image in this strange world, so much so that we forget to remember why we’re even doing it. We are greater than what we do. And we don’t have to define ourselves by it. I have to remind myself of this weekly. One small habit I’ve tried to be intentional about in order to avoid further burnout is to be very careful and mindful of my input. The information we allow into our mindspace, and the association we surround ourselves with, can have dangerous effects on our outlook if they are not positive. This beautiful passion for fragrances can simply be overwhelming. Unfortunately, high consumerism and extreme selfishness are somewhat woven into the fabric. The nature of this space leans in the direction of people acquiring more than they need, and being most concerned with their own experience and satisfaction. I’ve learned that we are happiest when we are giving and growing. Sorry for the essay. Thank you for being so vulnerable and honest. I hope you find your way out of this funk as soon as possible. ✨

I am going through burnout & other problems. It is hard! It is very brave of you to share. Please take care of yourself, no need to feel bad or guilty, it is all fine. Be kind to yourself. It's very good that you recognized it & are addressing it. Don't feel pressured to post regularly. I hope you get access to a therapist, this has helped many people tremendously. What you describe is very relevant & common with burnout. Not to dismiss your feelings & experiences, but to validate them & let you know you are not alone. I've also been doing all the techniques you're mentioning & more. You observed it absolutely spot on - less/no pleasure in things, feeling numb, no focus, no energy, and the helping techniques work one day & absolutely not working another day. And there's a no catch all formula of things to do, it is different for everyone and different things work at different times. Sending you hugs or sitting quietly nearby if that's what's better now. You're not alone. PS if anyone notices similar symptoms or going through it now & it's tough I'm open to answer questions & offer support, we can make internet work for us & support each other.

Hi, Demi. It’s so nice to see you. You have such a bright ☀️ presence despite your current state of mind. Appreciate your raw honesty. It sounds like you might be experiencing some anhedonia ☁️ - a dip in motivation and pleasure. You identified that listening to more music may be uplifting. And you’re open to setting clearer boundaries and structure with your work since there is so much fluidity between your personal and professional realms. Similar to past lower mood times, you will pull through this and you seem to already be feeling better and heading in the right direction. Wishing you much wellness in 2024 and thanks for pushing through this video. It took effort and strength to endure. You smiled more and more as you shared your gratitude for your partner as well as your solo time. Enjoyed hearing about your scent projects and passion for perfume. Look at how you light up when your talk about the Amouage Love Delight! 💕💕💕💕💕

Thanks for your passionate guidance re perfume at the very least and your honesty about everything you shared. Believe it or not, being a singer, this gives me more courage to put myself out there more in a technologically foreboding world. It’s not easy and can be a slog but it’s worth it. Keep the passion and honesty coming and take time for yourself as you are a gift! Thank you 🙏.

I am a psychologist andm noticed recently that a lot of my patients complain about feeling burnt out. It`s definitely a real thing and it is getting more common. Which makes me wonder if it`s connected to the pandemic and the aftermath, where people feel like they have to make up for lost time, work twice as much and juggle relationships, exercise and travelling all at the same time. I think it`s amazing that you are still working out to take care of your health eventhough you`re not enjoying it. From experience I would ask you to listen to your body though. Mind and body are connected and if either your body or your mind is telling you to rest , please do! Working out can be helpful for both your physical as well as your mental health but if you feel such a strong aversion , there is probably a reason for it. I also think it might be helpful to schedule some set times for yourself, when you can spend time on your own. As a fellow introvert I can relate to how it helps to recharge. Please don`t see it as being selfish ! It isn`t ! It`s necessary! I hope you feel better soon. Sending you all the love!

People all around the world are arbitrarily feeling these disconnects. From family, relationships, jobs etc. In the spiritual community, it's called Dark night of the soul. Professionally, it probably does not align with your paradigm, but I can promise you it's a real thing and can't be treated with traditional practices. It has to run its course, and it has to be recognized. It's literally a vibrational shift within the person.

Welcome back, dearest Demi, I've missed you! Burnout is so real, something I experience every year starting September as a lifestyle journalist, when every single brand wants to promote their holiday collection or new restaurant menu. People think it's so glam but they don't realize how much hard work it is to attend events and constantly live under a deadline. So I can totally relate! My solution is to go into hermit mode. Until now I'm not saying yes to any events unless I'm really interested in what they're promoting. Seems to be working... I feel much more rested and less stressed now. Regarding topics for videos, I dance for exercise and love your story about dancing around the apartment when Pierre's not there, lol! This is kind of a crazy idea for content but which fragrances make you feel like dancing, are dance-related (like Tango or La Perla's Let the Dance Begin), and would be perfect to wear to go out dancing, whether as a couple or a group? Would love to see that! Sending warm wishes and tight hugs! 💝💖💓

Dear Demi, Much of what you report reminds me of my own ordeal. I had my hormone status measured last year and it was found that I have luteal insufficiency - i.e. a progesterone deficiency. I had depression, no drive, everything felt forced. I can only recommend it to you. I was given capsules with progesterone (bioidentical) 3 months ago and I am a new person, or rather the old new me :-) Sometimes you also need distance from social media and healing contact with people who are good for you. Free yourself from toxic contacts. Do NOTHING for one or two days a week. I also prefer to recharge my batteries alone, so I can relate. If you have something, talk about it. Or write down your feelings. Reflect on yourself. I wish you all the best and love! Feel hugged. Warmest greetings from Germany, Nadine

@demirawling Definitely also have your nutrient levels checked. If you're not absorbing or getting enough of something, it can definitely affect your mood and hormone production. Also, you should look into things that can throw your hormone levels off such as taking certain birth controls. Another thing that can throw hormone levels off is what we consume such as bottled water. For instance the BPA in bottled water. I don't know how it affects women, but as a man, drinking bottled water can halve our testosterone production for over 24 hours. I wish you all of the best. I love your content and hope you get better soon.

@@demirawling Regarding PCO syndrome, I have this report that I can share with you: "The gynecologist will ask about the medical history, perform a physical exam including assessment of the skin and body hair, and perform an ultrasound of the ovaries. In order to determine the hormone status and rule out diseases of the pituitary gland and adrenal gland, extensive blood tests are necessary: for male hormones, female (cycle) hormones and the anti-Müllerian hormone, which is often elevated in those affected. Because PCO syndrome is associated with more profound metabolic changes, blood lipid levels are also determined and a glucose tolerance test (oGTT) is carried out if necessary. A thyroid hormone test is also recommended, as around one in three people affected also suffer from an autoimmune thyroid disease known as Hashimoto's thyroiditis." It will take time, but it will be good. ❤️

If you haven't already, I would also look into getting blood work done, like getting levels checked, including cortisol levels just to make sure there isn't an underlying reason for feeling drained. I am suggesting this from my own personal experience.

@@demirawling hi Demi, I hope you read this about 10 years ago. I started having anxiety attacks for no reason and feeling really anxious and depressed and it just kept getting worse and nothing was wrong in my life so I didn't understand why it was happening I kept seeing ads for transcendental meditation and I was just desperate to feel better so I went and took a class. It was four days in a row they taught you how to say a word that means nothing and how to get your brain to go down into the silent abyss, I took it very quickly and it was a game changer for me life-changing I went into my first meditation, and I never had an anxiety attack again and when you come out of the meditation you feel like you took a 10 hour nap you go into this place you can hear what's going on around you, but you feel like you're floating and on the most wonderful drug of calming soothing thoughts float by and just leave never finishing and when you pop out of it, you feel amazing after two weeks of doing it consistently I noticed when I was driving in the car I wasn't having a erratic thoughts negative thoughts about my childhood negative thoughts about people I was just listening to music and enjoying myself. I highly recommend you check it out, it's such an amazing tool that I wish I learned in my 20s now 56. I can't express to you enough how much it will serve you in your life.

I lm sure you have, but make sure you get your hormones and thyroid tested. Also if you can make it work, consider a solo break somewhere. I went on a two week solo holiday to New Zealand (on a tour) and it helped me tremendously because I didn’t have responsibilities to anyone but myself. I could be anyone I wanted and it was amazing.

I've had the same thing happen while enduring similar circumstances and what you need to do is to switch your focus completely to something else for a few hours or a few days. Things that have helped.....working out to the point of pushing yourself more than before. So, rather than keep doing Pilates, switch to something totally different like weights for a bit. Monotony is the enemy of creativity so you have to change everything else to increase mental stimulation. Another thing that may help is to focus on a hobby or something that gets you very mentally engaged. Perhaps trying a new book......or taking a class in something you've never done before.....like comedy or drama (which can sharpen skills relevant to your channel). Time to switch things up drastically. Routine is very difficult on creative people. Hope it helps.

The advice I'd give you is while you're doing the things that are good for you and that bring you joy, do your best to be present-- not thinking about work, or what you didnt do, what you have to do or how you could be better or anything else, especially negative things. Another thing id tell you is, chase Joy. Just like sadness, happiness is temporary. Ill leave you with a quote: "Self Restraing & Self Discipline leads to Self Respect which leads to Self Confidence" Much Love & Many Blessing💪🏾

Hi Demi ❤ What you’re going through sounds exactly what I went through about 6 years ago. I was numb, didn’t care about anything or anyone, and was frustrated with life in general. If I can give you one piece of advice is “gratitude” It’s going to sounds crazy because you might think “how can I be grateful when I’m just so exhausted with it all” It changed me ❤ Try to notice the little things. A little bird, the wind on your skin, the rain, anything. And write down daily 3 things you’re grateful for and mediate that’s the key. Take the time to focus and mediate on these things. Your mindset will shift. It’ll take a little time but I’m positive this will help ❤

Journaling helped me so much when I was going through and I gave myself permission to be as negative and as honest as possible. It is your journal so no one has to see it and it is better to get it out than to hold it in. Then when you go back and read it again, think of a positive to replace those feelings. It may seem negative at first but as you keep it up and reflect back you will realize that those negative days will be easier to manage. Good luck and wishing the best.

2:25 advice. Im 40 years old and i get this. Its dissociation. It comes from trauma. When we went theough this as a child or an event was traumatizing, our mind had to help us cooe to get tbrough it. So, i would bet something bappened or you're afraid of something. Maybe you were feeling so good and then a hiccup happened in your life and hour body and mind checked out because it was preparing for something bad fo happen. I HIGHLY recommend looking for a highly trained trauma therapist who specializes in "internal family systems" therapy and it certified in EMDR. You can learn how to be present in your body again. I have been there. I go there often. You seem a lot better and i am really appriciating seeing this side of you. Mental health is so important to talk about. I know it can be a scary subject but, you're doing exactly the right thing ❤

I know the feeling so well. Activities I used to enjoy are no longer something I wanna do. I feel like there is a brain fog which keeps me stuck in a routine and feeling numb to so many things. I tend to find the only way I can make myself feel my best is when I'm somewhere like the coast, where I feel I can connect to the world again. You need to do the same, find that one place that really puts a smile on your face and try and get there to spend a bit of alone time. You'll definitely get there, like I will, so stay positive and manifest the happy days ahead. Lots of love ❤

As a former mental health counselor, I can say that the fact that you recognize how you’re feeling and you “hate” it, indicates to me that you don’t have true mental health issues. Normally, people that are mentally ill do not and cannot recognize their own issues. I have two suggestions that may help you to press through to the other side of your current state: 1. Make it a point to rest…not just sleep, but rest…turn off the world, limit your social media time and literally unplug. 2. Exercise your spirituality. If you believe in a higher power, pray and seek guidance. Above all else, know that this is totally normal…it will pass in time and you will find yourself again soon. 🙏

I bought two new Harley’s and a bunch of drum stuff I’ve been putting off. I’ve been putting most of my energy into music lately and it’s awesome lol. I’ve found it’s stimulation that I need… less redundancy and set goals. It helps to declutter also. I know I’ll never be super happy but at least I know what helps me stay positive. Idk if this helps but just wanted to share ✌🏼

So sorry for what you are going through!! It’s wonderful that you have a psychiatrist and you’ve been getting help mentally, but perhaps it’s not a mental issue. There are many physical issues that could be causing your depression/feelings of burnout, or it could be a combination. Maybe set an appointment with your general practitioner, and speak with them about what you’re going through. They may want to run test to see if there’s something physical causing it. Good luck and I pray you find the solution to your burnout, and other symptoms. God bless!!!

I think life is hard when I don't have hope. I have to really focus on being thankful and giving God praise for everything in my life, the good and the bad in order to keep my reserve full and available when I am down. If I don't have hope in Him, I have this dismal abyss of being lost and alone. Jesus keeps me up when Im down. He gives me peace when Im a mess and I cant do it anymore. The thought that there is something more, bigger than me, a plan for me, something I cant do on my own, keeps me in a better place mentally. When I trust in Him and have faith in Him it takes the load off of me. and I am thankful for that.

2:05 totally get it. Been working 65-80 hours a week and it feels like having a headache constantly, without the actual head pain. Just completely down. Everything is a chore, nothing's fun, it's very lonely and my fuse is extremely short. Some of it's burn out and some of it is PTSD. It's a very bad combination to have to live through day-to-day. Fragrances have been making me somewhat happy because I've been trying new ones and watching your channel, Erica's channel, and Curly's channel. And Gentscents. I should be saving money and paying debt, but the little rewards like buying fragrances seems like a necessary treat.

However all my mental health problems are not the same as yours. Feeling burnt out is not unfamiliar. It is easy for me to be exhausted mentally. I have similar thoughts in being negative which can cause unhappiness, depression and lack of motivation. Heart goes out to you! I get bloodwork done every 6 months just to stay on top of any anomalies. Also when I feel numb, I remind myself of the single parent working 7/11 for 12 hours a day trying to put food on the table. So for me, it’s a combo of PERSPECTIVE and making sure I’m not deficient in anything in my blood stream. One last thing… hobbies that focus on the worldly, always in the end drag into depression. I collect perfumes as well and ultimately it always ends in … well this thing is just material and life is finite and what is the point… I found the only true happiness and fulfillment in my spiritual journey with God and Jesus. It gives me the perspective to let go of the material and realize time on earth is an immeasurably small fraction of our existence. Beauty will fade. Can’t find your value in that. Money and materialism has limited value on earth and zero value to the soul. Can’t find your value in that. Your value is in God’s love for you and his eternal plan. Much love and please think about the above.

I so understand what you are saying. I had a terrible down before the pandemic. I was in therapy, and had a daily journal task of listing 3-5 good things that happened that day. I was in a negative mental space, appreciating the small victories helped me put my head down at the end of the day. Opening the day with appreciation, and trying to think of all of the small victories of the morning. I actually got out of the funk because of the pandemic, because I stopped feeling guilt, and started to be able to dream and imagine, understand that I was becoming a different person. Best of luck in Dubai!

Honestly? Meds are what did it for me. That being said, I have full on depression but at the same time finding the right meds helped me come out of the numb and have the energy to do the bigger things that push me in the right direction. I will say it sounds like a depressive episode if you’re feeling burned out on life and usually episodic depression means the episodes get deeper and longer over time. Never a bad idea to get some bloodwork done as well! Many things (anemia, thyroid, hormonal imbalances, etc) can have a symptom of depression. Hope you feel better soon, I know how awful it feels and I can’t imagine how hard it must be with people probably being like “but so many others have it worse” (which then just makes you feel worse because you feel like you have no right to feel depressed).

Gratitud is a huge way to get out of a funk. But there may very well be huge underlying issue bothering you deep down. You may not have the right people around you. Look at these things really honestly and journal on it, let it trigger you. Also, a way for soul to guide you to what is meant for you is FEELING GOOD. What is not fun and not making you feel good, is soul giving u a message. Don’t let the mental plane guide you on this. I have my coaching practice and my schedule is fluid similar to you and it doesn’t bother me at all, there’s something else inside of you that makes you feel chaotic. Dig deep. But i think its super important that you know your human design and see what’s more aligned with soul. Do you know your human design???

Diet plays a massive role in overall mental health, vitamin deficiencies, electrolytes, etc. I’m not fully sure what you’re putting into your body but from the few IG posts I’ve seen, it looked more plant based/vegan. Veganism leads to about a 60% increase in depression and other mental health conditions as it leads to a lot of deficiencies in the body over time. I’m not sure if that’s the case but if the diet is severely lacking in healthy fats/protein, everything starts to break down after a few years. Hopefully this helps a bit! :)

Thank you for sharing your journey. You're not alone. Many people are going through what you're experiencing for different reasons. And if some people are not going through it, they will or they know someone who is. Perhaps 2024 will be the year when everyone stops pretending things are "great." They're not. As a modern society we are going through tumultuous times and it has a ripple effect. So best wishes to you. I join another comment on this thread to encourage you to pray -- not just meditate. In a strange way it's a blessing to be going through these weird feelings. It forces you to reflect and question yourself. One philosopher said an unexamined life is not worth living. If you're just going through the motions and you don't stop to question... I dunno. I would worry. Be you. Do you. There is more to you than perfume. There is more to perfume than just smelling nice or being trendy. Perfume is an art, a product and an industry. Have fun exploring and expanding your horizons. But be careful. Happiness may not be what you think it is.

Demi, I’m sorry to hear what you are going through and I can relate to it. Most of us go through similar situation at some point in our life. The cause could be different from individual to individual. Here is my 2 cents (advice). Don’t try to battle this on your own. This is the time you need support. Human beings are social animals as we all know, spending more time with your loved ones (family and friends) can help a lot. Talk to your close friends/family members who can listen to you without judgement and provide valuable advice from their own life experience. I’m glad you are talking to a professional which is good. I’m not a doctor or a coach, but one thing I have noticed myself is changing diet can help as well. What we eat has direct impact on us as human beings. We need right amount of vitamins, minerals and other essentials for our body to function at a optimal level. When there are deficiencies it can affect our hormones which has direct impact on the way we feel, think and react. Try to find the root cause that triggered this. Go to a place where you can connect yourself with nature (like water, trees and cool breeze) and think what triggered the feeling/emotions you are going through. We are connected to nature and in the modern world we are getting disconnected from the nature which is also a cause of a lot of problems. Spend time in nature it really helps to reenergize and revitalize you. Visit a Scandavian spa it helps. I’m a fan of your work and the content you put out there. You are genuine with your reviews and suggestions. You are helping a lot of people across the globe and have such a great loyal fan base. Think about all the hard work you put into achieve everything you have so far. Think about what you want to do next. Your next project or collaboration. Maybe time to branch out into other ventures to give a new purpose/goal while you are doing what you love. It takes a lot to openly talk about what you are going through, kudos for that and you are doing the right thing. Sometimes it is important to get back to basics/fundamentals to overcome these type of feelings and thoughts. It is a phase and it will pass by very quickly. Always remember that you are a amazing human being and you are doing something good to the community directly or indirectly. And know that you have a great fan base and loved ones around you that will always be there no matter what. All the best! With your journey and in no time you will feel great!! Lots of respect and love ❤

Talk about how you feel at the moment I know holding things in just makes me feel worse I always feel better after a talk to my husband or even my bestie who is my sister. I will open up a little I suffer from ptsd when I get very anxious I breathe and remember all the good things In my life and what I’m thankful for. Everyone has a story to tell. Being a 2x breast cancer survivor when I get the “woes me “ I think about how lucky I am to survive have my amazing husband and family and amazing team of doctors. Be proud of yourself and what you have accomplished sending much love peace and harmony btw I am not spiritual at all. Take care Demi love you💕🤗

I felt very burnt out for months after architecture school and honestly sleeping a lot took a lot of time but healed it eventually. Recently I have been feeling burnt out from working too much, so I have been trying not to “do the most” and leaving maybe before the last person and giving myself some allowance to not get things done as quickly as possible to rest and spend time with the family. Weekend get always for hiking in the mountains or seeing family change of scenery and unplug from work and email that helps. Lastly being just lazy in general taking a hot soak watching my perfume or makeup 💄 videos or junk really tv drama. I know how you feel and I hope you find tools to heal yourself. Feeling burnout sucks

Understand everything you've said. Appreciate your sharing (as a choice). Creating and executing a daily plan is essentially grounding, when I feel disconnected, adrift, and anxious. Carving my own space and dedicating periods of solitude to recharge and develop depth of personal awareness aided my resilience. Assessing and prioritizing my perceived responsibilities and obligations from actual requirements illuminated mindset tuning to shift focus where my mind, body, and spirit could be better aligned. Delegated more. Above all, compassionately accepted self "as is." If my situation never changed, how could I adapt to bring most quality to my daily interactions and wellbeing. Blessed be!

Demi, thank you for sharing, you are helping a lot of people with your journey and honesty about it. I understand what you are going through as I’ve been through it my whole life. As an introvert living with depression, time alone is necessary and healing. Burnout as your describing it is a symptom of depression. If you have not been to a psychiatrist for medication, please go. Finding the right medication has saved my life. I had been looking for your videos for the past month and was worried you were suffering. Going outside, feeling sunshine, exercising…..all important for sure, but the medication gives you a heathy baseline. I wish I understood this at your age, my life would have been very different.
