I didnt know nurse practitioners existed until I met one while I was doing clinicals for my BSN. I don't recall it ever being mentioned in nursing school. I want Black girls to see me and aspire to be a nurse practitioner or better. We need more Black healthcare professionals.

And you don’t always have to be in the hospital setting I have worked in healthcare for over 20 years I’m a not a practitioner but I’m a doctor in healthcare specifically IT I’m in the health and life sciences my clients are RNs, NPs,MDs,PhDs,VPs and CIOs ( I know the alphabet ppl) but I even get knocked for being a Doctor of Healthcare Technology vs MD like I’m not knowledge of stuff but in all reality we each serve a purpose we can’t get the job done without each other... At one point I was like do I need to get my rn but I dropped out of nursing school and was satisfied with where I was ...ppl will forever talk shit ... DO YOU ✊🏽✌🏽🙏🏽 (I was a teen mom too and single mom had my kid at 15 he’s 28 now and WE ARE GOOD... keep going sometimes you feel like you REALLY have to prove yourself by being a teen mom but prove it to yourself no one will ever be satisfied)

I feel the same way. Most social workers go on to get their LCSW to open up their own practice and be an entrepreneur with a lot of money. Sounds good but not for me. I just want to be a medical social worker and case manager so the only credentials I want by my name is MSW, CCM.

As a current MSW student, I 100% agree with you. My career goals are focused on macro practice, I have little desire to put my energy into a credential I don't want or need. But, of course you get ugly stares when your end goal isn't therapy in a private practice, so I typically keep my career goals to myself in SW circles.
