To all the physical media buyers and collectors, you have a new addition to the community! I am tired of changes in content in streaming services and the price hikes. So, I started collecting physical media, and it feels great!

the ones that grew up with physical media but foolishly threw it all away for the seduction of "everything imaginable all at once on any screen" would be more likely to return to physical media ownership than the ones that only grew up with streaming, the ones that were conditioned from an early age to not only accept only watching what the streaming overlords allow them to watch, not so much, they even defend such practices as if it's their sworn duty.

I already did this, and I have zero subscriptions.

I started picking up movies about 2.5 years ago when I couldn't find a movie I wanted to watch on streaming. Now I've about 1,200 physical movies and there's only a handful I've left to pick up to complete my collection. Best thing I ever did

How do you manage the space?.. I am getting into this.. and wanted to know what kind of shelf and all to get .
@Meanbob20108 ай бұрын
Streaming is so unreliable, it depends on your internet connection, limited availability of material, and of course, they can remove content at anytime.

I agree with your title. I started a large media collection, trusting the provider (Amazon). Then I found out they could edit my movies however they wanted to. They have. I would never have bought anthing from them if I knew they could change it without telling me.Thanks for putting out a video about it and warning people.

I bought a bunch of movies from AppleTV They removed scenes. They added scenes in. They changed soundtracks. A bunch of them when I click on them, even though they are technically still in my library (like, the tile is) want me to buy again, or redirect me to a streaming service that would require a subscription or just say unavailable Stuff I “purchased” No thanks! Back to physical media for me too

I never stopped collecting, and I haven't had a movie/TV streaming service for over a year. Before that I rarely had more than one at a time, and often only for 1-2 months to catch up on things. I never liked the way Netflix and other services present content, and I always had issues figuring out what to watch, but that isn't the case when it comes to looking through my collection and finding something. And of course, the quality is better on disc in general. Something that I became very aware of because I have a pretty decent surround setup. I also don't really care if new stuff never makes it disc, even though it seems that companies are slowly going that way again. There are new distributors popping up every year, releasing old and sometimes forgotten movies, and even TV shows from time to time. Sure, I might miss the hot new show, but I will always have plenty of entertainment.

It’s good to see some streaming service exclusive titles be available on physical media. Selections like WandaVision, The Mandolorian, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Loki, most of the Pokémon Netflix shows and movies, the Animaniacs reboot, and many more are available right now and tbh it’s pretty great. I do have Disney plus and Netflix, but that isn’t gonna stop me from getting the shows and movies on dvd/Blu-ray. I don’t have HBO Max/Max, Peacock, or Crunchyroll; so seeing some titles be available from their catalog like Space Jam: A New Legacy, Dune, the Five Nights At Freddy’s movie, Dragon Ball and One Piece available on dvd and Blu-ray is still great.

i just picked up a ton of used dvds dirt cheap at the goodwill. for $18 total. I got the prequel star wars trilogy. spaceballs. the original indiana jones trilogy box set and happy gilmore. ive been slowly building up my dvd collection again after selling everyything more than a decade ago to go with streaming. but I got tired of having a hard time finding certain titles.

If you own a 4K tv, you should rly look into blurays instead (and 4k UHD blurays but those can be expensive..). They’ll look MUCH better on your tv and your movie watching experience will be so much better trust me it’s worth it. DVDs are a thing of the past(; (unless the film u want is only available there ofc)
@GrackAlaciN6 ай бұрын
Just be a bit aware of what you get on DVD. The format came out during the 4:3 TV era, so you can run into releases that are cropped to 4:3 or non-anamorphic/letterboxed releases that look like absolute shit on a modern TV.

I'm building a library for a personal plex server for my own personal streaming service and I still get to see my collection on the shelves! Best of both worlds!

Better off buying your own movies and music. More choice out there,besides where else can one find obscure rare items? Rather own my media,the thrill of the hunt!

I still have my DVDS & I'll never get rid of them. My mate has gone back to DVDS now, since he's fed up with streaming services.

I mainly got Amazon prime for online purchases for stuff i can't get in malls that aren't around anymore . Id rather own a DVD . The best example are some of the John Carpenter DVDs with Kurt Russell . Most of the DVDs have commentaries of John Carpenter and Kurt Russell . You can even hear them opening beer cans and lighting cigarettes

My friends internet went down a few weeks ago, his I.S.P said they'd send someone out in 4 days, he called me asking if his Xbox can play blu rays and if he could borrow some, I told him he can take 4 he wants to watch and 70 that he doesn't, of the 4 he needs to watch 3 in his living room, then get up and go to his bedroom to watch the 4th and I want £30, he can keep them for a month, unless I change my mind.

I am more of a hybrid watcher I have a decent library now I did a video on my setup which is Plex on a QNAP server. Physical media is the way to go for sure! I enjoyed the way and I had a saying on my video Quality over Quantity as that is the issue I have been hoping to see movie stores make a comeback now that would be awesome!

A dvd or a Bluray that you actually bother to take care of will last far, far, FAR longer than it’s on Netflix for tbh
