plottwist: right after the ESX gets sold, KORG releases Electribe 3 😊 On a positive note: many ESX techniques are transferrable to other machines, and there's always people selling ESX'es [even snowmetal] 😂

Thank you so much! I expect some really great work to come out of the new setup, thank you for the blessing. :) I already love the Akai Force and I'm looking to add the MC-707, which you may have seen. I'm also still building my own piece of hardware, which is coming along in leaps and bounds, and I've even toyed around with the idea of recreating the classic ESX/EMX workflow and sequencer, but with modern specs. Anyway, I really appreciate your comment!

Sad news that you're parting ways with your ESX but your infinite knowledge of that machine has spread far and wide regardless. We all appreciate the amount of time you've put into posting how-to's on the ESX buddy. Happy Holidays to you and your fam. I'll probably be buried with my EMX and ESX LOL.

Out of curiosity, why are you selling this great machine? Do you no longer use it?
@danieklerr27 күн бұрын
I love the ESX dearly. Unfortunately it's too heavy to tour with and sounds quite poor when paired with other gear. I'm going to do another video, diving deeper into the reasons for selling.

I'm new to this channel. I'm gonna look into your videos. Can I ask a question. I have both the esx and emx. The potentiometer/dial for choosing tracks is acting up and jumps around so I can't choose the track I want. I will look into the solderings. And the stereo is going crazy as well, so when it gets hot, the stereo works as it should, but then again it can start loosing the stereo again. Do you know about this? Listening to your projects while writing this, nice👌🏻

What you're experiencing is the dreaded "knob-jitter". Many people have many fixes, but the main cause is actually that the main circuit board is too close to the power supply, which causes static electric buildup. This causes the current to fluctuate in the pots, which causes the values to jump around. Many people have used baking parchment paper (which is heat resistant) to provide a barrier inside, and this usually cuts it down to near zero. Of course a more permanent fix is to use a thin sheet of shielded, static-proof material. If you search for "Electribe knob jitter parchment paper fix", you'll find what you need. Thank you for stopping by, and if you have any questions I can be reached at SnowMetalUniversity at gmail.

@dkmu6 .. That's awesome! I've heard of people having success with this, but for me Deoxit was unsuccessful on the knob-jitter for the one EMX I had to fix years ago. But yes, perhaps @kennetj.6170 should try that first?

I don't know. I guess I'm looking to increase efficiency and power on stage without adding more gear to my collection at home. I want the MC-707 for live synth tasks, and I'm being intentional about eliminating clutter from my life.
@Projacked125 күн бұрын
@@danieklerr Just the ribbon controller functions controlling an analog synth (w/ MIDI) alone... Don't sell it.Big mistake imo.
@danieklerr25 күн бұрын
I appreciate that, but when I pair my ESX up with my on-stage gear, the sound quality brings the performance down. I have played hundreds of shows using the ESX alone, which is awesome, but it always takes me ten minutes of bangers to get the crowd into the mood. A live-hardware performer following a DJ is really hard, to be honest. Also, I've owned about a dozen ESX units over the years, so I can always buy another when I want one, and I probably will, haha. On ESX as synthesizer, I made a video 14 years ago about mimicking synthesis. Search: "Korg ESX tutorial 2: Mimicking wavetable synthesis" on YT or on my channel. :) And thank you for your input!
@Projacked125 күн бұрын
@@danieklerr The MIDI on the ESX is nice. I only meant, what you can do with it it just as a controller with the ribbon. I agree on the sound. It's handy for layering, but yeah I feel you. But that ribbon can do some serious magic on hardware synths, and very easy to play, especially live (improv) Try it first, and try all the ribbon presets. Just trigger notes from the ribbon.
@danieklerr24 күн бұрын
Ah, so you mean using the ESX ribbon controller to send note data to external synths? That sounds really fun. I'd love to see a video of this, if possible! I'll also hook up a synth and try it, thank you.

You might think it's a good idea now, but it's not. You'll regret it. If I had a dollar for every DJ and producer I've known who has regretted selling their records and equipment to me after a while, I'd be able to buy a nice diner at the local pub.
@danieklerr26 күн бұрын
To be fair, I've sold and purchased about 12 ESX units over the years, so it's not as serious as it may seem. Two years ago I had so many synths that I had to rent a space outside the home for them. I'm now invested in getting the most powerful live setup, with the most amount of features, in the smallest possible space.
@damienthorn134026 күн бұрын
@@danieklerr Ahh, I getcha. Yeah, that's fair enough. As long as you know what you're doing. Generally if you're close to something, unless it's a fortune that's gonna set you up, it's not worth selling. But ESXs aren't exactly rare.
@danieklerr26 күн бұрын
@@damienthorn1340 .. They aren't rare, no. But I admit, with the workflow I am accustomed to it would be difficult to adjust to using a Smart Media version over the SD.
