If any of the tests are incomplete, I walk away. It means someone has been messing with the car recently and the check engine light could come back on right after you buy it.

Today,I saw a guy selling his "2007 Toyota Corolla" for $4,800. Only,it was a 1997 Corolla! You heard of rolling back mileage? This guy was rolling back a decade. True!..I was right behind him in my 2010 and my sister has a late 90's Corolla. Don't look the same at all.

Yep, just pass on ANY stories. Look at the fiction on Craigslist, aside from the dirt cheap cars (fiction, Mercedes for $800), there are stories about moving need to sell, lost key so I can't turn it on (so you can hear the rod knock) or must show at night since I'm so busy. NOPE...I think this one with the evap code 'not ready' sounds like a reset that wasn't gone through one cycle - they do that and all of a sudden at 100 -200 mi into it the code returns...NOPE, ZERO STORIES.

Great advice! Speaking of Avalons, I have a 2001 XLS with 242,000 miles. Picked up for $1,900 last year and only had to replace the valve cover gaskets. Runs like a top.
