It is disgusting that technically she could get out after 15 years on parole. The judge said she didn't believe parole would ever let her out but her job is not to pre-empt what parole will do and change the sentence to massage it for the criminal. 15 years for murdering 2 young men in the horrific way she did warrants a lot more than 15 years.

WTF? Did her dad just drop in between holes at the golf course? Is he annoyed that his time is being wasted "for no good reason"? That shirt alone should be a contempt of court charge. And yes, I wish there's be a way to hold the parents responsible, too, when it's THAT obviously why their daughter turned out to be such an entitled narcissist. Somehow I hope they appeal the sentencing and then a better judge throws the book at the two-time life-ender AND rips the parents for failing her in every way possible. That'll give "mom" something to post about. (I wonder if she has already rescheduled the modelling appointment for her little princess)

Since she has to literally read her 'apology', she doesn't mean a single word of it! A decent, responsible, young human being would've done it from the heart - with true feelings coming through. Not reading from a piece of paper - while 'crying' for only her own predicament. She was 17 when she decided to kill two people that had their whole lives ahead of them. A five year old knows right from wrong. She purposefully committed two murders. Someone as self-absorbed, uncaring, selfish and irresponsible as her doesn't deserve to walk freely amongst the rest of us.

@@txchris3802 IF she had true remorse, only a few words from the heart would've been enough. Not only would it have shown that she meant what she said - it could've been convincing enough for the people present to take at least some pity on her. And, if her attorney had at least half a brain, not making her out to be a victim, but demonstrating that she took the majority of responsibility for what happened might have helped her somewhat, as well. However, deliberately committing two murders and clearly reading a statement that she had to write down to remember, says a lot about her state of mind. With all due respect, comparing bereaved, mourning family members reading their lengthy statements to this arrogant, self-absorbed, irresponsible young woman is like comparing apples and oranges - claiming that they're all one and the same.

It's really a good argument for quality mental health care services in prison (if we don't have those already, I hope we do, I'm honestly too depressed to look far into it). It's not super common that someone truly ends up staying in prison _for life_, so if someone re-emerges into society ever I want them to have a thorough, real chance for rehabilitation. Even then it's up to them to take it seriously, and up to parole officers to determine if someone is still a danger.

Prison is better than jail, so I'm sure once the shock wears off and she settles in she will be fine. Yeah, I don't get the judge's logic. She went WAY soft. "I won't give you the harshest punishment because I don't think you'll be out in 15 years anyways". Just wtf. Even if you don't think she'll be out in 15 years, why even give her the possibility that she could? By doing this, the judge is just giving the victim's families more stress later on down the line by forcing them to attend parole hearings and making them fight to keep her locked up, and therefore making them relive this tragedy over and over again. And also having to listen to the same BS lies from both Mackenzie and her family!

One thing I have learned about parole after working with incarcerated women for 10 years- they always parole the attractive, well spoken ones early in their sentences. I live in California so maybe its different tither place but here women that can't eloquently apologize and learn the lingo will stay inside longer. I hope Mackenzie is able to change her life and do something positive someday to give back to society. Hopefully she wont get parole right away so the families feel they got justice.

Oh he would be behind bars for life, no question. Particularly if the victims were female. It’s well documented females get significantly lesser sentences than men for the same crimes. Young women are the main beneficiaries of this leniency. Look at a something like the trial of Casey Anthony, would the verdict have been not guilty if it was a guy with a shaved head and loads of tattoos? Of course not. Aesthetics and characteristics play a massive part in trials, they shouldn’t, but they do.

Discipline and instruction are integral parts of being a good parent. Proverbs 13:24 says, “He who spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is careful to discipline him.” Children who grow up in undisciplined households feel unwanted and unworthy. They lack direction and self-control, and as they get older they rebel and have little or no respect for any kind of authority, including God’s. “Discipline your son, for in that there is hope; do not be a willing party to his death” (Proverbs 19:18). At the same time, discipline must be balanced with love, or children may grow up resentful, discouraged, and rebellious (Colossians 3:21). God recognizes that discipline is painful when it is happening (Hebrews 12:11), but if followed by loving instruction, it is remarkably beneficial to the child. “Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord” (Ephesians 6:4).
